O mio babbino caro" ("Oh My Dear Papa") is a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi (1918), by Giacomo Puccini, to a libretto by Giovacchino Forzano. It is sung by Lauretta after tensions between Schicchi and his prospective in-laws have reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from Rinuccio, the boy she loves
The singer's introduction suggests one of opera interpretation is that even the singer does not understand what is going on. Ms. Reed says Lauretta doesn't know what is happening, and is 'dippy'.I suggest she is not dippy at all, and knows very well what is going on. After all, she ends up with most of Uncle Buoso's wealth. The words of this aria disguise what is actually going on.Lauretta won't throw herself in the river. She is just expertly manipulating her adored and adoring father.
I can't seem to change YouTube's title, and to edit the video introduction means recovering the original video files and more work than I have time to spend right now, sorry. Spelling correction noted--I'm sorry, I'm neither an opera fan nor studied in Italian ;-)

It's "babbino" not BAMBINO. Babbino means "Daddy."

Giusto un appunto: the title is " O mio babbino caro"....not " O mio BAMBINO caro". :-)
