I was about 15 years old at the time when I first heard this song or of Donny Hathaway. Since that time, Donny's music has been an integral part of my life.
King Tee & DJ Pooh used this for the introduction track to Tha Triflin' Album "Drunk Tekneek"...I had this record when I first start'd producin' in like '91...I forgot all 'bout this jam!!! I love this whole song (besides the breakbeat)!!!
there was a time when you actually had to have talent to be successful in the music business. not anymore. all you need now is a gimmick. if you can talk to the beat of music, you are considered a success. god help us.
I wasn't exactly a fan of Hathaway, but I always like this song and the way Hathaway sang it. It's funny, but I ask people who claim to be fans of Hathaway whether they remember "Magnificent Sanctuary Band," and they look at me puzzled as if I'm crazy. "Hey, white boy," they seem to be saying, "what are you talking about!?" I'm talking about what may have been Hathaway's best song ever, that's what I'm talking about! Anyway, thanks for bringing back memories for me!
My wife, Lillian Tynes, is also part of the background section. She got her start as a professional with Donny at the age of 19.
