Apparently sounding like Dylan requires only a harminca and acoustic guitar... and is also a bad thing? Hell, if someone told me I sounded like Dylan I'd be like, hey thanks a lot. Thanks for making great music. Even Dylan had crtics.
There's no such thing as not singing in your own voice. Your voice is what comes out of your mouth, and who or what it sounds like is whatever you want it to be. You're the artist, and you do a damn good job. The cats who tell you that you sound too much like Dylan don't understand the nature of art or music. And besides, they probably suck. You keep up the good work, I dig your stuff.

Dylan...Dylan...Dylan...we already got one and we don't need another cheap ass copy cat!! Take off your Dylan Harmonica holder and go get some original talent....you stink you creepy punk!!!
all these people that say you sound too much like Dylan dont know what theyre talkin about. This is really good. I dont think it sounds that much like Dylan anyway, and Ive probably heard about all of his songs. I'm a singer songwriter too and your music really inspires me. keep it up man I'd love to buy your album.
so I've listened to a few of your songs and you are a very good lyricist, but you sound exactly like bob dylan. you need to find your own voice. i've been a musician for a many years and i started out just like you, mimicking my favorite artists, but that gets you nowhere. I used to mimic bob dylan and as someone said to me, "That's great, but I liked it better when it was called Bob Dylan". You're very talented musically, just be more original.
Because there is always a path beyond what you think was a destination, and that path is always longer than you can run. And there are destinations approaching every now and then, so it's always nice for us to go as far as possible, before we finally settle down for a destination.
No wonder you appreciate this field so well- you are a writer-musician yourself. This world needs to be overcrowded with people like you.
Where there is monotony, there is saturation- not of art, but of talent. This has to be avoided, to develop the talent further. Only running waters are said to be "fresh", you know what still waters are called.
Nevertheless, this particular boy is at too high a place in this field. At least one song (Anything That Fits Me Like A Glove) of his, is almost a masterpiece, especially the writing.

Y'know, even Dylan mimicked Woodie Guthrie. James is doing his own thing and will grow into his own style exactly like Dylan did.
I actually think he's a lot better than Dylan, especially lyrically. Keep up the good work.

I don't know if you need this advice, but why should your one song, not be **COMPLETELY** different in style than other, including the melody?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to write a good song? Why don't you try?

And yes, I forgot to give the main reply.
