  • thanks so much for this!! i havent learned it yet but i think i can. thaaaanks!

  • really great video. I'm having some trouble moving so fast with these power chords but I've always wanted to learn a good jack johnson song. Could you please do more covers? :)

  • I'm a beginner guitar player, infact i only started yesterday, but i thought i would be able to teach myself through tabs and or chords but i find it difficult to swap between these chords. Also, i find it hard to do the thumb, up, down, up is this just because im a beginner? Finally is there any songs you'd recommend for me to play now? or is it too early on to even think about playing?

  • great video! Im new to guitar and picked this song up in no time! sounds really good too!

  • dude great vid, but easy?

you say stretch you finger over to here like everyone can reach across the first 4 frets!

    but i'm working on it!

  • I love this video, but it would make it much easier if you had the chords written somewhere... are they? Please point me in the right direction, as sometimes its not easy to tell what strings you are putting your fingers on. I am a beginner!

  • is there an opern chord version?

  • OK - so I have watched a bazillion times and I think that i am getting it. If only the strumming didn't sound twangy -- but for a complete beginner.... I'm still trying! You inspire me!

  • thanks bud helped alot mabey soon ill e able to concor the cords

  • i love u man!!.. thanks for the lesson...it was amazing... ure a legend!..

  • How do we play the different part in the song...

    when he sings:

    I believe in memories

they look so, so pretty when I sleep ... etc...

    Very good vids you made

  • I'm pretty sure the third chord is:

    6

    8

    8

    8

    6

    0

  • thnx alot m8 =D sounds awesome ^^

  • ok sweet i learned this song! thanks!, but just a question i was looking at covers and they are playing it a bit diffrent, are you playing the same thing like, if you both played same time it would be nearly the same? (they didnt use a capo)

  • Great video man, I like your stuff.

  • veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy goood

    its a fantastic, i like

    nice nice :D

  • nice, but these are barre chords, not power chords, wtf?

  • These are power chords. Sorry to correct you but don't want anyone to get confused here. Look closely, my first finger is not "Barred". It's only fretted on the 5th string. This is for beginners to try. Barre chords are very difficult when you are learning to play, so I wanted to post this "option".

  • cheers that helped alot

  • keep it up mate' good work!!!

  • hey, thank you for posting this video, i've always wanted to play this song, but im pretty new at guitar. im not that musically inclined, so i dont know much of the music vocab. i was wondering, are you barring the chords? or are you just holding down one string with your index finger? in addition, do you just let the 2 bottom strings ring?

  • I had the same doubt, but it doesn´t matter if you barre the chords, just as long as if you don´t touch the last 2 strings

  • Your 1st finger is fretted only on the 5th string. Let your 1st finger drape across strings 1(e) and 2(B) so they don't sound in case you touch them when strumming. Really helps make a "clean" sounding strum.

  • I'm lost on your power chords it looks like you're playing all the strings with your pointer finger like a bar chord but its power chords. Which strings should be down with the pointer finger when you are moving through the frets

  • KAYPO THE THIRD!!!!!!!!! (FRET SRY)

  • dude you can make this song soooo much easier!

  • The point was to help players practice power chords. What is easy to some is hard to others. Keep that in mind.

  • thank you... you are good..

  • I think you've got the strumming pattern wrong. i think its thumb, down and then you slapp the strings so they touch the top of the hole thing.

  • this is just an easy version of the song to help beginners start playing a favorite song right away. The strum may not be "exact" but the groove is correct.

    -Micah

  • thanks im only twelve and now i can play every jack johnson song

  • Wow that's great! Good job man...Keep it up. Jack's songs are easy but hard to play exactly like he does. This video here is an easy version.

    -Micah Beverly

  • Can anyone please tell me what the hell he is playing in the beginning (and do not say, that I shall watch vid 1, I have done that!) I don't get the first thing?!

  • What don't you get in the beginning "the first thing"? Maybe I can clear it up for you. Maybe I didn't explain something correctly. Let me know.

    -Micah Beverly

  • ok...forget what he did, bar the third fret with your capo. Then play a C, by plucking the second to top string, then walk down to the second to last string (thinnest). Then after the C lift your ring finger and your middle finger will go up one string ... ok i am just going to make a video, so just hang in there.

  • Obviously a lot of people find this video useful. Never tell people to not pay attention to musical ideas. There is ALWAYS something useful in all the video here on you tube. Using the Capo on the 3rd fret requires a little bit of a stretch for that F/E chord for some people. No way around it in this song huh! haha. I'll post the Capo 3rd fret how to right now for everyone interested. look for it.

  • damn... that's it... i give up... the sound looks terrible in my guitar damn!!??!?!...

    However... good job there...

  • thank you!

  • is that a barre chord with the 1st finger? in the beginning?

  • Great stuff! i get it. thanks

  • How cool is that! I'm off to give it a try. Thanks.

  • thanks. this helped out a lot.

  • Man...

youre the best jackjohnson guitar teacher i've ever learnt with man...

    i admire you

  • I've seen videos where J.Johnson uses a capo, does he do both capo and without capo versions?

  • he aint use any open chords.. a capo is not importent than

  • amazing video...best tutorial video...u know ur music thoroughly....5 stars.. Thank you veru much, much appreciated

  • wow this vid is good. finally after months trying to figure how to play this song and i have been failing all these while.. finally.

    thanks bro.

  • mucho hablas !! toca de una ves!

  • Nice bro, nice. Fuck retardtheartist

  • really nice man :)

    keep up the good work.

  • keep it up mate' good work!!!

  • Great job! fgtm -- and thanks!

And just ignore the idiots who feel the need to post negative comments on a video where you are just trying to help people learn the song -- jeesh.

  • I know, aren't people rediculous!

  • Actually it's "You're a joke". Maybe you were talking about my "a joke". I'm confused? Thought I'd share a comment back. I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to share "your" thoughts on the video. Maybe instead, I should post basic grammar lessons for you? Ah, I love YouTube.

    -Micah

  • very nice lesson! very clear an slow enough to be able to follow an good cam work also. I watched all three thank you .

  • Awesome these helped. Glad to hear it. Good luck with your playing.
