really great video. I'm having some trouble moving so fast with these power chords but I've always wanted to learn a good jack johnson song. Could you please do more covers? :)
I'm a beginner guitar player, infact i only started yesterday, but i thought i would be able to teach myself through tabs and or chords but i find it difficult to swap between these chords. Also, i find it hard to do the thumb, up, down, up is this just because im a beginner? Finally is there any songs you'd recommend for me to play now? or is it too early on to even think about playing?

I love this video, but it would make it much easier if you had the chords written somewhere... are they? Please point me in the right direction, as sometimes its not easy to tell what strings you are putting your fingers on. I am a beginner!
OK - so I have watched a bazillion times and I think that i am getting it. If only the strumming didn't sound twangy -- but for a complete beginner.... I'm still trying! You inspire me!
ok sweet i learned this song! thanks!, but just a question i was looking at covers and they are playing it a bit diffrent, are you playing the same thing like, if you both played same time it would be nearly the same? (they didnt use a capo)
These are power chords. Sorry to correct you but don't want anyone to get confused here. Look closely, my first finger is not "Barred". It's only fretted on the 5th string. This is for beginners to try. Barre chords are very difficult when you are learning to play, so I wanted to post this "option".

hey, thank you for posting this video, i've always wanted to play this song, but im pretty new at guitar. im not that musically inclined, so i dont know much of the music vocab. i was wondering, are you barring the chords? or are you just holding down one string with your index finger? in addition, do you just let the 2 bottom strings ring?
Your 1st finger is fretted only on the 5th string. Let your 1st finger drape across strings 1(e) and 2(B) so they don't sound in case you touch them when strumming. Really helps make a "clean" sounding strum.

I'm lost on your power chords it looks like you're playing all the strings with your pointer finger like a bar chord but its power chords. Which strings should be down with the pointer finger when you are moving through the frets
this is just an easy version of the song to help beginners start playing a favorite song right away. The strum may not be "exact" but the groove is correct.
Can anyone please tell me what the hell he is playing in the beginning (and do not say, that I shall watch vid 1, I have done that!) I don't get the first thing?!
ok...forget what he did, bar the third fret with your capo. Then play a C, by plucking the second to top string, then walk down to the second to last string (thinnest). Then after the C lift your ring finger and your middle finger will go up one string ... ok i am just going to make a video, so just hang in there.
Obviously a lot of people find this video useful. Never tell people to not pay attention to musical ideas. There is ALWAYS something useful in all the video here on you tube. Using the Capo on the 3rd fret requires a little bit of a stretch for that F/E chord for some people. No way around it in this song huh! haha. I'll post the Capo 3rd fret how to right now for everyone interested. look for it.
Actually it's "You're a joke". Maybe you were talking about my "a joke". I'm confused? Thought I'd share a comment back. I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to share "your" thoughts on the video. Maybe instead, I should post basic grammar lessons for you? Ah, I love YouTube.
thanks so much for this!! i havent learned it yet but i think i can. thaaaanks!

I had the same doubt, but it doesn´t matter if you barre the chords, just as long as if you don´t touch the last 2 strings

dude you can make this song soooo much easier!

The point was to help players practice power chords. What is easy to some is hard to others. Keep that in mind.

I think you've got the strumming pattern wrong. i think its thumb, down and then you slapp the strings so they touch the top of the hole thing.
