famous quote god of off-side, but surprisingly not many shots on the off-side, but that was a historic match @sydney, wherewe completely outplayed Australia, but unfortunately the spirit of game was lacking in Pontings team which leaded india still down in the series 2-0
lol how can anyone think this dismissal was NOT a clean catch.
It's obvious, goes straight into the hands and Clarke has control of the direction of the ball, then in standing up, he touches the ball to the ground. That is NOT grounding the ball. That's out.
OH YOU TEE, OUT. Anyone with half a brain would not have disputed that catch. The Indians probably knew it too, they were just bitching because they bloody well LOST.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Come on stupid, you don't know cricket much, do you? While dropping the catch, you have to be in complete control of yourself, only then it will be deemed that you have caught it convincingly. Haven't you seen fielders taking a catch, and then dropping it instantly as a way of celebration? In those cases it is out because he has dropped it intentionally and is thus in full control of himself. But here Clarke was rolling on the ground while he grounded the ball.
@CoolStoryBrosauce So no way was he in control of himself when he let the ball go, and hence it was not out actually. Anybody with any amount of brain (even much less than half will do the trick) can understand it. But it looks like you don't. Only bouncers are generally this dumb. Are you a bouncer at some gay bar???
@cupidvogel Oh NOES! You called me stupid and implied that I'm gay!! THE HORROR!!!!!!!! It's incredible that you managed to think up such a stunningly witty rebuttal. Well you're obviously far too intelligent for me! And obviously a much better keyboard warrior as well. I bow before your mighty skills.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Sorry. I got carried away. But what I said about the catch being clean is true. The catch was clearly taken after the bump, yet Clarke appealed. I am not saying that Ganguly would have won the match for India had not this decision been given as out, but the way he was batting, who knows? By saying that anyone with half a brain would not have disputed the catch, you insulted many people, not to mention cricketing pundits like Gavaskar. So I think you too should apologize.
@cupidvogel nope I have nothing to apologise for. The Indians got pissed off because they lost a match that they had all but saved. At the end of the day, if M Clarke hadn't taken 3 in 5 balls, India would've drawn the match & the series, and we would never have heard anything about "only one team playing in the spirit of the game" and all that malarkey.
Basically it was just a loss that really stung for India. Yes there were poor umpiring decisions, but this was not one of them. Clean catch.
@CoolStoryBrosauce No, you are wrong. This video doesn't dwell on the close-up shots of the catch, but they were shown when the match was going on, and it was clear that it was a bumped catch. I repeat, BUMPED catch. I think you would agree that Gavaskar, of all people, is sufficiently unbiased to warrant a respectable position in the ICC panel. He commented "Sorry Mr Benson, you have got it all wrong", after Benson asked Clarke's opinion instead of the 3rd umpire's when Ganguly relented.
@cupidvogel I have seen the replays umpteen times. Gavaskar was more moaning about the fact that he asked Ponting whether it had carried or not, but then, Gavaskar is hardly unbiased is he? He also isn't really one to talk about "sportsmanship" on the field. - Lest we forget his infamous "I'm taking my ball and going home" incident with DK.
I've seen the catch over and over, it is 100% clean in my mind and always always always will be.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Then no use talking to you. The entire world (not only India, mind you) saw what happened, and you know what, they also have their opinions, and the funny thing is that the overwhelming consensus was that the Aussies cheated like hell in this match, with this incident topping them all. Google this stuff, and you will find pages rife with this catch's criticism. So doesn't really matter what you think, when the entire world (sans you and your countrymen) think otherwise.
@cupidvogel Funnily enough, most people who criticise this catch are INDIAN!
Wonder why that could be? Tell me, how exactly is it "Aussies cheating" when it was simply poor umpiring decisions that were at fault. Were the Australians also umpiring? No.
You can believe whatever the hell you like, but in years to come, when people look back at this test, they will remember it for the great tons by Symonds and Sachin, and for some magic from M Clarke towards the end.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Again you are wrong. As usual. True, Indians were the most vociferous, because it were they who were cheated, but it drew ire from the entire cricketing world, from players from England and West Indies as well. And believe me, no fucking body in the world will remember this match for what you mentioned, but for Australia's childish shenanigans throughout the match. Ganguly brilliantly summed it up at the end of the match: "Australia was desperate to win the match".
@CoolStoryBrosauce Oof. Can a batsman ever know whether he was LBW or not? That is always the umpire's decision to make. A batsman normally walks out when he is caught, because he knows when he has nicked it. But he can't walk out because he thinks he was LBWed! That would make him look stupid, not honest. If Sachin was indeed out, then the umpire had definitely erred. But such decisions are always mutual, and similar incidents can easily be scooped from the Australian innings as well.
@cupidvogel There was nothing wrong with Aus' conduct in this match. I hate to use Sachin as an example again, but in the last IPL his Indian teammate Rahul Dravid nicked one to Sachin at slip, Sachin came forward and took it on the half volley, IMMEDIATELY CELEBRATED THE CATCH!
The 3rd ump was consulted and it was given NOT OUT. Does this make Sachin a cheat???
No, it does not. It's always very hard to tell in the second or so you have to judge whether it carried or not.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Good example. I remember it clearly. Problem is that Sachin is so immaculate in his conduct that even Dravid, and for that matter, the entire world admitted that it was indeed by mistake, as it IS sometimes difficult to judge a bumped catch. But look at this video: (GOOGLE "Michael Clarke's catch (and it's not Lara Bingle)" to see it in YOUTUBE). I can show you more from Clarke if you like. So now tell me, why should others believe that Clarke erred unwittingly?
@cupidvogel I've seen all the examples that Indians commonly use... including that one. It doesn't actually mean anything though, it's often hard to tell if you've caught a ball cleanly or not.
@CoolStoryBrosauce Yes, I knew this was coming. Look up the comments on that page, and you will find me saying that it was very bad and dishonest on Ganguly's part to resort to this, much as I am a big fan of him, being a Bengalee myself. So if I can accept his fault, why can't you that this was clearly a bumped catch and Clarke is a 3rd-rate dishonest chap to have claimed it clean? Plus, you have shown me one video only, because there is no more for India, whereas I can show you tons. Wanna c?
@CoolStoryBrosauce We are not talking of bad umpiring in this match (which of course it was), but about the conduct of the Australians. Please don't try to say that just as batsman has no way of knowing whether he was LBW, similarly a fielder has no way of knowing whether the catch was bumped!
@idontknowshitokay Relax, asshole. I never said that Indians are always squeaky-clean, all I have been ranting about is this fucking non-catch. Look up the comments above, from there you will see a reference I have made as to my comment on a Youtube video about a bumped catch taken by Ganguly. Indian as I am, I acknowledged that, why can't you acknowledge this one instead of constantly denying it or pointing to others' faults???
@tgmcrad but u got to admit that was bull shit umpiring....coz most of the players were given out the same fucking way on this SCG test....its good that nowadays the players can appeal several times against the decisions made by umpires.
Shame on Benson, he asked Clarke, of all people, to tell him whether he thought it was out or not. The three topmost thieves in the Aussie team are 1-Clarke, 2-Clarke, 3-Ponting. And he gave his decision based on his answer. The replay (not shown here) clearly showed the ball brushing the ground comfortably (too comfortably to allow Clarke to say that he wasn't aware of it), and yet off went Clarke. India still perhaps would have lost the match, but a fine knock was cut short.
@T0MMO11 Ok, maybe TOMMO11 made some racist comments, but that only goes on to show his lack of manners, but it doesn't warrant your racist comments. since you have replied along the same lines, are you any different from him? And please don't try to absolve Australia of their cheating habits. Youtube is replete with videos depicting their shenanigans. Most of them are cheats- Clarke>Clarke>Ponting>>Symonds>Hayden would be the ideal order to describe their cheating prowess.
@T0MMO11 all right, but the Aussies knew it pretty well that this was not out, and yet they appealed with so conviction. And lastly, this Ganguly stuff. Dunno how you try to defend it. And when they say "Whites are cheats", they don't mean "Whites" per se, they refer to Australia. They used to be the best god-damned side in the world, no doubt, but they were also the dirtiest cheaters in the world. And IPL is not the index of Indian economy. It's just an extravaganza. That was a stupid comment.
@cupidvogel Not walking is not cheating - Its not in the rule book that you have to walk.
Its not us Aussies fault that the umpires are shit. The Youtube videos you have mentioned are made by bias Indian fans, who if they had their way, there would be no such thing as a australian. I have seen video's of GANGULY claming a catch yet i do't mention that untill you bring video's up.
@cupidvogel They were desperate to get him out. Of course you are going to appeal with conviction. If its given out when it clearly wasn't then bad luck. Thats just cricket. I don't see how getting a lucky desision is cheating.
It seems to me that some (i mean some) indian's think if anytime India gets beaten the other team must of cheated.
Now i believe that is a shithouse way to be.
Anyway you got your revenge at Perth and now are no1. Well done
@T0MMO11 Admitted, getting a lucky decision is not cheating. But you can't redeem the other cheats and tricks of the Aussies in different matches (and there are tons of them). And India never claims that its opponent has cheated when they lose a match. But funny that most of the teams do so against Australia. And don't try to evade that by reasoning that this is just because the other teams are jealous as they can't beat Australia. And yes, Ganguly was wrong in claiming that catch. No doubt.
@T0MMO11 I don't know from which country you are hailing, but that's a very superficial comment. Neither are Indians uneducated, nor do we live in slums. India is not yet as developed as many countries, I concede, but not as undeveloped to merit these comments either. India is intellectually as rich as any country, and economically it is lagging behind, yes, but remember we have earned our freedom only around 60 years ago. Give us time, we will bloom.
@cupidvogel Fair comment but did you read indiancrabs comment?

India's economy is ok too, In some areas there is no shortage of money. (see IPL)
@T0MMO11 And you asked me to see Sydney 08? Didn't you see Symonds remaining motionless when Bucknor gave him not out even after he knicked a ball behind big time? Now don't say he wasn't aware of it! Or Clarke, when he was caught at slip, remained rooted to the ground until the umpire deigned to raise his finger.
