  • That's my school :D ( concord )

  • This was when he was in high school: he only had eleven kids of his own then...

  • he won the game by himself haha

  • I'm also from Indiana and graduated the same year as Kemp did (1988). Sean Kemp was one of the best HS players to come out of Indiana in the 1980s (along with James Blackmon and Jay Edwards, IMO), but he only cared about making highlight reels. This Muncie team ran Kemp's Elkhart off the court, btw. Kemp's HS career was like his NBA career. You did a lot of "ooohs and aaahs", but in the back of your mind, you were kinda' disappointed.

  • @broaddusmarines I wouldn't deny your list, but I would add a name. I was in the gym the night Shawn Kemp and Concord played against another NBA star in the making, also in his junior year. His name was Rick Fox. By the way, Shawn set the current McCuen Gym (Concord's home floor) scoring record that night putting in 49 points, while Fox "only" had 26. One more name I just thought of was Scott Skiles who also came out in the 80's.

  • why does the start of the video say 1989, but the headline say 1988?

  • Ahh VCR, shit quality but theres an honesty to it aha

  • Kentucky's loss = Seattle's gain. Big ups to the NCAA, for once.

  • I watched this game and I can tell everyone that Chandler Thompson dominated him at 6' 3" and a 48" vertical! Shawn played scared of getting his shot blocked after Chandler blocked it at about 12.5 '. By the way Concord lost the game and all anyone was talking about was the 360 and the 2 hand reverse dunks Chandler had!

  • @ls64rox

Hey, that's cool and all, but, no one's clicking on this clip to see highlights of Chandler Thompson ,though.

  • my dad went to school with him

  • Don't mess with Kemp, he's still the #1 dunker I have ever seen.

  • This is the first state finals i ever seen on TV. It was a great game you see chandler thompson of muncie going for dunks constantly and kemp was denying at rim. this was a high school game played at an elite level. Thompson went on to ball state i believe.

  • like a man playing with children

  • Gotta love YT. Where else do you find such an incredible collection of such old vids? Well thanks to the internet really. There's so much out there you would never ever know of without the internet.

  • It's the beginning of Rainman. Just throw the ball near the rim and he would slam the ball into the basket.

  • this was great viewing. Big Kemp fan.

Thank you for uploading such exclusive footage.

  • i think we know the coaches game plan.... pass the ball to shawn

  • Raw.

Kemp wasn't even fundamentally sound, and he was still above and beyond.

  • Chandler thompson was a TREMENDOUS DUNKER in Spain, I will post some vids of him

  • It's bad he fouled out and lost in the title game, but I would have loved to see him play at least 2 years at Kentucky. After that, he truly would've been a monster.

  • Love and Respect for Mr. Shawn Kemp Sr and his entire family.

  • You guys know that his team lost by like 23 points in this game, right? Against a team with no one bigger than 6'3"...

  • Best Power Forward ever!

  • this video sums up his career pretty well.....FOULED OUT. And I'm a huge fan of his...

  • You know, Shawn is a person who has done incredible things in his life. He screwed up and is now in his 40's making things right for his life and his kids. In the end the Reignman is a human being and deserves forgiveness from his fans. He is a very good person and I hope to meet him some day. He was always my favorite player and always will be. Nothing but love for Shawn, SOS!

  • nice vid im a huge kemp fan miss him playingi live in seattle and we loss our tema but we have mem

  • Thank you for your comments. I will upload new HQ video mix from this game soon. I will try to input some more Chandler Thompson highlights.

  • @crohoops I graduated from Concord in 1985 and let me tell you, Shawn Kemp was a waste of life. That school was about , maybe, 5% minority and just about every one of that minority was on the basketball team. And was also a NEW transfer from about the same time we got a NEW basketball coach....high school recruiting, in this way, is NOT what Indiana Basketball used to be about.

Kemp cheated and was carried all the way through school. It's no wonder he ended up the way he did...not a surprise.

  • this nigga could play worth millions, yo white ass boyz cudnt play worth shit, anything else u say shall be a waste of life

  • @slipknoterman racist much? but yeah he was the best

  • @crohoops still gonna do that??

  • I saw the game the same way asasser31 saw it. I graduated from MCHS in 83. Shawn had a lot of trouble with Chandler considering the size difference.

  • I'm from Elkhart and mom mom graduated with him :)

  • Cool video. Thanks for posting. The 80's were a great time for the NLC in Indiana. (Northern Lakes Conference)

  • I remember this game, I graduated AHS back in 88. Muncie Central won by 23 and took the state title and Chandler Thompson dunked on Kemp at least twice. To people who remember it, it's pretty hilarious that this is being used for Kemp highlights.

  • oh shit at 1:32

  • remember when chandler throw one of kemp's shots into the stands! that was awesome

  • I remember watching this game and the only thing people were talking about was how he was dominated by 6'3" Chandler Thompson who blocked his shots and had a 360 dunk.

  • The date on this is incorrect. Muncie Central and Concord played for the state championship in 1988 at MSA.

  • Correction "The Reign Man."

  • great song to compliment the video, i use to watch the reign man, when i was in middle school, back in 93-94, i was a huge sonics fan, and i live in LA, can u imagine the harassment i got for it?

  • I think i can, even though I live in Croatia. CroHoops.

  • why is it that when you talk about some of the greatest players to ever come out of indiana, shawn gets no love?? shawn is a family friend so im a little biased but damon bailey? steve alford? these guys were good but theyre playing careers didnt come close to kemp!

  • are you from elkhart?

  • @ecottner I agree! Kemp is the best to ever come out of IN! #1 fan over here!!

  • @kimberlea69 AHEM.... Oscar Robertson- Mr Triple Double himself is from Indiana.Learn ya history.

  • @missayawk I know my history well, thanks. My opinion is the same. Adoration is not always based on statistics....but thanks anyway.

  • @ecottner he is my alltime favorite player, and it has to do with polotics, and a lot of other factors, the reign man did not go to IU, and the majority of Indiana favors HS and college, over the NBA. If Kemp had went to a college, he would more than likely be looked upon differently, he was one of the nastiest players to walk on the court in my eyes

  • I go to Concord!!!!!!!!

  • Theee RAIN MAN

  • Being from Seattle and LOVING Kemp, it's only fitting that he had 23 points, 13 rebounds, 8 blocks...and of course FOULED OUT. I watched this man for 8 years dazzle me with his athletic ability, only to ruin it was foul-out after foul-out during important games when we needed his defensive strength on the court. He never saw a blocked shot opportunity that he didn't like, and it cost the team too often. Nothing worse than being down by 4 with 2 minutes to play and Shawn's on the bench.

  • Without Shawn, you wouldn't even be down by 4. The last two minutes was saved for GP, and Detlef

  • This song fits '89 so well.

Shawn was killin' 'em, but he fouled out.

  • Despite all these highlights, Kemp's Concord team lost this game to Muncie Central. Chandler Thompson took it to him.

  • WOW! Shawn Kemp was DA MAN. Nice old school Concord jerseys. I like the green t-shirt underneath.

  • Nice!

  • i loved watching him back in high school. what a great memory.

  • Neneh Cherry's "Bufallo stance". I've picked this song because it excatly describes the vibe which was on the air at that time...

  • Amazing video, Whats the song?

  • Wow! Absolutely the shit...where did you get that footage? Never mind, it doesn't matter, just glad I could watch it...#40 was the most naturally gifted player of the post-Jordan (they were six years apart by birth) "wave." Reignman played to about 40% (how fitting) of his potential and is still a legend. Thanks again for this.

  • great video. shawn kemp before he became the reignman
