  • The amount of water that comes down from the sky will amaze you when you start doing this.

  • You have the loudest cats :)

    This is a good video

  • @longp2000 Just got a kitten the other day! lol...another loud mouth cat! haha...I love my cats!

  • basic rain barrel parts kit can be found @ RainBarrelParts . com

  • ???? Does this system keep out mosquitoes and bugs. I can get the totes from from work. On the totes, the chemicals that were inside before you made the rain barrels. Can that harm your plants? and what tote not to use with the chemicals that were in it. Hope that makes since.

  • @spacedrivefilms I put mosquitoe dunks in mine and I have no bugs.......My totes came from PEPSI & had only pepsi

food grade should be used......I think.

  • How many gallons are those containers? Also what is the average cost of ones that size? Thanks for your time and great vid!

  • @Truthhurts3pm 350 gallons I think...the little ones are 250....about $45us.

  • cover the tote w/ dark cloth or sumthin...keep the sunlight out and maybe add an air stone...won't be as funky

  • @impalapez Thanks ..yeah ....I need to do something...soon.

  • I want to tie 3-250 gallon totes together like you did but mine are all on an equal level, it looks so much better. But I can't find the fittings to tie the 3 ball valves together. Any Ideas? Where did you find the fittings? So you know what I am doing my first tank is filling at the top. I want to tie the other 2 tanks threw the ball valves, I can’t find the fittings, the threads looks like 3 threads per inch.

  • @MandLVideo Those fittings are on ebay...

  • learn to talk u sound idiotic sorry

  • Does it get much junk in it? Or do you have some kind of filter?

  • @AReptileMan Its kinda nasty on the inside but still ok to water plants.

  • Cool..been researching this.

  • @hop2freefood2go good way to water gardens without using your well or city water.

  • Would you mine if you dig a hole in the ground and wait for it to be filled.

  • great channel.....you and several others have inspired me to make a channel too......:)

  • @MAXPING2012 well thats awesome! I will check it out & susbscribe to ya! later..Rick.

  • If we get twelve more of you in the world Global Warming will be down like 35%

    xD

  • @nukesvids Global Warming is a myth spread by wealthy men who want to tax you to breath. Just look at Al Gore's mansions and you will see he does not believe in what he preaches. Still, rain barrels and being good to mother Earth are wonderful.

  • @mrjon75 ...Erm

  • @mrjon75 Global warming is alive and true

  • @WestcoastMusicals No, it was exposed as lies in what is known as Climategate. Just look at Al Gore's mansions and how he travels. It is a scam. Polution is bad, yes. The hoaxes and hysteria crooks push to tax folks more is bad too.

  • I want to do this at home.!!. - What are the containers called called? - So I don't sound like a dork when I go to our Coca-cola plant here. I saw a similar unit that someone made and they used a submersible pump to boost water pressure for the hose.

  • My Favourite Channel!

  • @dantheawsomeman Well thanks! That great hear somebody is watching my video's.....Thanks...Rick.

  • Probably my Favourite Channel!

  • with the connecting pipes on top, don't they have to be full to flow into the next container?

  • @sethzky77 They are ...This design kinda sucks...I should have just put the pipes straight across at the bottom.

  • You might want to get a paint strainer/filter to put on the end of the pipe before it goes into the tank. They're like 2 bucks in the paint dept. of Lowes and it'll stop a lot of stuff going into the tank.

  • @bongojim Thanks! That is a great idea.

  • @kmacfilms Mine came from the Coca-cola plant.

  • i have one of those tanks as well im gonna do what you did but i need to flush it out first

  • @rolficus What was in it?

  • @london1817 sika block addative for masonry blocks i want to flush it a few times and use it only for the garden and lawn some dish washing liquad should help its a 1000 ltre tank

  • @rolficus Maybe you could strap it on the back of a truck & wash it at the car wash

at midnight. No joke. Thats what I would do.

  • @london1817 yeh thats a great idea its pretty clean just need to get any residue out of it car wash sounds awsome thanks for the tip how long will 1000 litres last on an average size garden cheers.

  • @rolficus Well sounds good to me! The tank will last 2 weeks in hot weather. every other day watering at our house.

  • @Glen1040 I have no idea but it is best to cover them up with some

    tin roofing or something.

  • Do you have a strainer so leaves dont clog up the pipes?

  • @stangsaleens7 Well kinda. I have a piece of screen on the rain gutter.

  • that is so cool!

  • @johnrocks2hell Thanks for the comment!

  • @london1817 Rick, this looks like a great setup... but how do you keep it from freezing in the winter time?

  • @trat50 The top of it might freeze a little. It doesn't get that cold here.

  • thats AWESOME, that thing is HUGE! Wondering about water pressure. How far away is the garden? Would something like that run water say 40 feet away on fairly level ground and do drip irrigation? thatd be rad!

  • @CultivatorsCorner The pressure is good .

I have a couple drip irrigation sysytems hooked up to it. Works good. I just have to clean the screens alot. 150' no problem just has to be down hill from tanks

  • make a pipe handle and attach to the center pipe and turn the barrel

  • @ 3:10 could you tell me where and what size that fitting is. i bought a used 330 gal tank like yours and I am having trouble figureing a way to reduce it to a useful size. any and all help is appreciated...thanks...great channel.

  • @toddac1 They sell the reducer here at all the feed stores. Or look on Ebay..........You could make something from lowes if you have too.

  • ibc work.

  • sweet

  • I have seen underground systems built where they lined the hole with a good liner filled with plastic crates then covered some even made parking lots on top. They needed a pump but coule store as much as the hole is large. I have a video of the professional company in my favorites. SHTF you would have plenty water just filter it and walla.

  • @cdltpx I seen that video too........looks awesome!

  • i heard collecting rain water is illegal maybe hopefully thats only city laws but has any one ever heard of that one before

  • Allow me to simplify it for you. Set them all at the same elevation. Connect them all together at the bottom and open the valves. As the one fills they all fill evenly. No need for stepped elevations holes in the tanks at the top etc. Within your one bottom connector pipe put a dispensing valve. Simple as pie.

  • @Environex Hey man! Where were you when I was hooking this thing up? That was one of the smartest comments ever...Great thinkning!! Would have been easier also.......I might just change it...because I wanted to expand on my tanks.......Thank you........Rick.

  • do you not put a screen on it. Dirt might get in to your tank and might clog your pipe going to the other tank

  • Naa ...Its a very large pipe.

  • I bought those in craigslist for $100 and its a sale but yours is just $55? What restaurant did you buy those?

  • My friend got them for me at pepsi.

  • I bought those tanks for $100 and said its a sale but you just bought it for $55. I dont really where to buy but i saw it craigslist so i order immediately

  • haaahaaa

  • there called IBC tanks there 1000lt i have two myself,,,there a lot cheaper than the proper one you buy from the shop:::))))

    ;;;

  • what r those tanks and where did u get them :D

  • I got them from a friend who got them at

    Pepsi.

  • dumb question but how do u keep water from being stagnet or algaed up? chemicals? and what chemicals for water are good for growing vegies?

  • That is a very good question Assman! I use the water usually pretty fast so it doesn't have time. I think It doesn't really matter to the plants to get a little algae...

  • nice set up .

  • I don't know...I would be scared to drink the water.

  • dude, someone like you could probably make a water filter out of 2 coconuts and some bubble gum wrapper.

on a serious note, i am really impressed by you, your diy projects, your lifestyle, your simple yet clear and detailed video presentations. i will begin many projects similar to yours in the spring and would appreciate it if you could give me some advice from time to time. it would be extremely helpful as well as an honor.

peace brother, keep up the good work.

  • Well thats really nice of you to say!! I will be happy to be helpful with your projects.....Keep in touch....Rick.

  • I collect rain water too....have you ever wondered if it would be good to drink for humans!?....I did....tryed it when I was drunk once. And I can't tell if it was the water or the booze that made me feel sick the next day lol...still I wonder =)

  • you can if you connect it to a reverse osmosis filter, i would distill it before as well, but that might be overkill. but definitely reverse osmosis

  • hey why don't you test if your water tank works by drowning a cat in it ?

  • Great idea! Thanks....next video .. just.for you!

  • ahh! make your house japanese style too!

    hahaha

    love the flower

  • look like u are in japan

  • I think i am turning japanese. Not really. I am in N.C. usa.

  • You sound like Kevin Bacon.

  • Hey thanks...I think.

  • Toby the cat likes to be on camera lmao..funny cat...very nice videos..thanks for saving all of us idiots some money...keep up the posts!!

  • Hey thanks for the comment! I hope it goes good on your project!

  • good job, i like your videos~!

  • Thanks so much! Jesus loves you!

  • I got a rain collector like that too, but I covered mine in fence board because they're kind of ugly.

  • Yeah that's what most people say about em.....I cover mine with tarps...even more

    ugly.....Oh well it works. Haha.

  • Hey, at least we're conserving water, any time that I must use tap water outside I have a guilt trip for days.

  • I have a well so I never use the water for any plants. I have guilt trips just taking longer than 2 min. showers.

  • LOL, I wish everyone could be as conservative as that, I have neighbors that use sprinklers on their lawn during the hottest part of the day and while it's windy, what a waste. If my garden doesn't get enough rainfall, it'll just have to suffer, only in extreme drought conditions would I consider tap water.

  • Well we are now in a drought here in NC. I hope it rains my garden is looking droopie.

  • Also, I use 55 gallon polys and lay them horizontal - not connected but just to collect the water... i had planned to connect on to the other as you have done... but it's cool to collect free water....

oh, btw, if you want to do it with 55 polys you can generally get them for free from carwashes... just go ask... cheers,

  • That is a great idea! I will ask next time I am at the carwash. Thanks for the comment.

  • I feel foolish asking but what do you mean by polys? Thanks in advance, I'll be going to my car wash soon! hehe

  • Poly refers to polypropolene - plastic 55 gallon drums... very sturdy, light weight... car washes purchase their soaps/wax etc in them...

  • Hey Rick,

Are the three 'tote' (what i've heard them called) the same size but just elevated from one to the other?

did the totes already have the valve on them or did you have to add it?

Did you just drill a hole for the 1" PVC for the outlet to the next tote?

Also, i noticed only the first tote had the valve... so, how do you get to the water in the other two totes if you were to use all the water in the first?

  • They are 1 pallet higher than the other.

They came with valves. All of them have valves on them now. Thanks for the comment.

  • nice set up.

  • Thanks for saying that.

  • Where did you get your tanks? How much did you pay? I'd love to do something like this.

  • At a local resturant. They were 55 dollars a piece.

  • That's awesome!

  • thanks for another great video

  • Hey thanks for watching it & the comment!

  • is this a new system from the one you showed way back or an update any who the person below me has a good ? how many gallons

  • This is an update from the last one. This system is 850 gallons...

  • about how many gallons is that system? Love the system

  • Hey thanks...It is 850 gallons. Thanks for the commment...Rick.
