@concussedcarneous No not at all. You can use a plasma cutter or Oxy/Ac. You could get a metal blade for a table saw and use that. If the cut is not too long you can turn it sideways and use a chop saw. Preferably a toothed blade instead of an abrasive one.Or the old stand by, you can get a lot of blades for your jig saw and just go really slow with lots of lube.
Any of those will work, just depends on your time limits and tools at hand.
You know Kevin, if we didn't have a little fun doing this work,it wouldn't be worth it,right? just like if I didn't bang my hands with a hammer a least twice a day,it was a wasted day.
@kevincaronYeah Kevin, learned that lesson long time ago,now i just a finish nailer. That way they go right through, leave only a small hole on each side That way you don't nail yourself to a stud, out of reach of a claw hammer. No worse then piercing your nipples,or other body parts.
Reminds me of when I was a kid,my brother and I would have staple fights, only one rule,no stapling of the eyes shut. My Dad found out what we were doing and and told us to stop it.,using is staples I guess
I have nothing in particular to bend. Just interested in the process, machines and jigs you use. I will continue to use my big hammer with metal clamped in the vise. If it works for you, it should for me too. Happy New Year!
Yes, I have seen all 120+ of your videos and all are great! I would like to learn how to bend perfect 90 degrees like angle iron brackets as well as U shaped objects that is 3-4 inches wide and 1/4" thick. Right now I clamp stuff in my vise and start hitting it with my hammer to bend 90 degrees.
@rodjava All I have for bending metal over 1/8 inch is a big hammer just like yours. I can do less than 2-1/2 inch wide and 1/8 thick on a cheap bender from Harbor Fright. I have a hyd. pipe bender but it only works with pipe and round stock, nothing flat.
What are you building that you need 1/4 inch thick brackets?
@rodjava I have done a few bending videos already. Have you checked out the rest of my site? If you don't see what you are looking for let me know and I will try to get one up.
this guy is hilarious! I love him!

Don't they call that a" throatless shear" in some parts? or is that just Southwest type talk?

@theflyinwop Nope, it goes by throat less all over the place. I just forgot to mention that in the video.
Good catch.

Hi Kevin,
Great info on cutting sheet metal.
How about a short video on how to bend small L and U shaped things with a metal bender, hydraulic press or other jigs?
