  • If you happen to be a bass player and you're interested in reggae, look up the works of Robbie Shakepeare or Aston Barrett. This is embarrasing

  • Is that John Scofield on guitar?

  • @SuperStrik9 sure is

  • He is God!!!

  • God... is that you?

  • i think its funny that there is what i think to be an alembic leaning against the wall for back up but he is playing a fender

  • Like Burchfield for water... ?

  • Like always Jaco is the best !...

  • This guy could play anything, what a bassplayer!

  • I agree with some of the people hear jaco sounds ok but hearing him playing reggae seems a bit awkward

  • well maybe not actually HIT!, but the looks i got from the rasta when i was chomping (as opposed to comping) around the bubble "coulda killda mon."

  • @markmarktarmann in other words we overplay often on simpler forms like blues reggae latin ..SOMETIMES even SWING!! or funk! or or...hello!?? are we getting the message.? the audience relates&i hear bass players praise larry grenadier for his disciplined simplicity while solo-ing. we often, too often.can't rein in our tendency to play too many randomly placed (that's a relative assertion i'll admit) notes..at the expense of groove and audience connection .any objections to that observation?

  • @markmarktarmann; Couldnt have said it better myself. Sometimes and most of the time with the bass simple is the best way to go. So many people want to play every thing super fast. Just because its fast and hard to do doesn't make it music.

  • Considering Jaco has probably done this reggae groove spontaneously, Schofield plays absolutely killer chords (@0:30 and then at the harmonic conclusion @ 1:10 and then again at 1:35.) Let's face it they're all killer musicians. So sad he was wasted.

  • the Great John Scofield on guitar...

  • not a good genre choice... haha yeah does sound like police haha

  • @jamcalglo .reggae steeped it's way into rock in the 70's hotel calif., the clash, the police, ska but jazzers never really got a hold on it. reggae is kind of "anti-chop display" music, more about the groove/group sound. this does sound like the police, 3rd hand reggae. great chops and ideas but no reggae groove. happens in jazz.,even a great band like coltrane's made a mess of "latin music""autumn serenade with Johnny Hartmann. reggae musicians would hit sco for what he does to the "bubble"

  • I'm afraid to say that, but they don't feel the reggae groove!

  • @panulli4 I'd say that Jaco and Dennard do, idk about Scofield though. All great players regardless

  • really like The Police Style!

  • currently learning jaco's playing in this vid by ear to expand my horizons... long live king jaco

  • That's a jazz bass with a precision neck

  • this reggae is the most jazz i´ve seen....

    (in portuguese)

este é o reggae mais jazz que eu ja vi...kkkkkkk

  • Wheres the onions. Nice hat, like most jazz fantastic players but this sounds like a Police first jam session. Yes he's fantastic but boring.

  • @counterfeitnotes1 Yeah right, like The Police was ever a boring band...

  • @dixxjamm The Police are boring to many people. Their diluted, suburban estate agent ,coffee table "reggae" is vile in my opinion. Sting's solo stuff is even worse!

Listen to someone like Boris Gardiner, particularly his work with The Congos, if you want to hear some proper riddims. A great bassist.

Jaco's seems to be putting his own slant on what he would consider a reggae bassline. I like it.

  • @3rduncle Those are some pretty harsh words about a band and a man who not only can play and compose jazz-influenced compositions like he changes his socks, but who also is respected by both the jazz and pop community, his songs are constantly covered by jazz musicians and he constantly plays with them in different formulas. Look at his collaborations with Branford Marsalis and Vinnie Colaiuta, you've obviously chose the wrong music icon to splash your snobbish subjective bile...

  • @3rduncle(in kumar voice) fuck you sting's awesome!!!!!!!

  • JUST A MASTER! What a sound!
