Because of the 500 character word limit I had to severely chop and change my post, and I didn't proofread it properly. I did originally use the phrase "one would" but had to contract it down to "you'd" purely to conserve characters.

The first sentence could mean I was impressed by his shovel or that I was hit with it . The second sentence can only mean I was hit with his shovel.
