  • 5 of almost the same knife lol

  • @nutnfancy Where'd you track down the red version? Every seller seems to only have green :(

  • @aikenforjeff It's a LE.

  • I have had mine as an edc for over ten years now. I have had on my person about 99% of the time. I have used/abused this great knife by opening and breaking down thousands of cardboard boxes. I cannot even count the times I have cut rope with. Used as a steak knife when the restaurants knives suck. It has never failed me even once.

When I purchased it I think in '99 it was $185.

The best $185 I have ever spent.

If you are thinking about it buy it.

  • love the knife, but i feel that it is very over priced

  • Ye ye yesterday I got my girst bm knife... Griptilian mini 556mdp adk I love it :b

  • My favorite all time EDC blade, for such an awesome blade, I don't hear you talk about it much anymore?

  • what do you guys think would be best. a benchmade 375 adamas fixed, or a sure fire EW-05 fix blade. the surefire is about 60$ more adding up to about 200$. the surefire is about .6 ounces less than the bench made.

  • This is the most viewed benchmade video on YT! Nutn, pleas do a hall of fame for this series??

  • I bought this knife new for $125...lucky me lol

  • how can you afford 5 benchmade 940s

  • @tylenator552

He can afford them, because of viewers like us:)

Help support him, and rate his Vids!

Love your videos Nutn, God Bless

  • @tylenator552 that's exactly what i was thinking!

  • i have this knife and i love it. edc for over a year now and its still great

  • The problem with the price is that the newer models are using S30V steel exclusively, which we all know costs a ton. I'd love to see them bring back the 154CM, but in the meantime we may have to settle for the 950 Rift.

  • I saw a newer benchmade like this and looked exactly like this and it was over 500$ :(

  • @TheCrazyTman It was one of the gold class practically custom ones, they are very expensive, the normal black and blue class knives arent nearly as pricy.

  • I have a green one I'm looking to sell for 90 dollars if anyone is interested

  • Hey Benchmade why has the price on these gone up from $125 to $175 over the last couple years? I've had this knife on my wish list but each year the price goes up. Why?

  • agreed about jumping on knives you like. year or two ago i was a big fan of the leek (kershaw) -- damascus leeks were plentiful for about 80-90 bucks -- now if i want one i gotta pay 180-200 :(

  • Do you really own all of those 940s? Or are you at a shop?

  • A surgeon can use it, it's so sharp.

  • i bought one of these but lost my job recently if anyone is looking for one that has been carried only 3 times and is still like new drop me a line i was thinking 150 i paid 183.99 new

  • To anyone that owns this knife... Is it really as good as they say!? Is it worth the 100+ price tag?

  • Comment removed

  • I had just bought this knife. Thanks nutfancy for this great review. Benchmade should sponsor you for all the great reviews you made.

  • how is it compare to 470?

I'm going to get either 940 or 470, can't make up my mind yet.

  • I would buy one but they are around 170+ now.

  • my 940 is not centered and has blade play up and down side to side what do i do to fix it?

  • @XxZeRoGravityxX101 Send it to Benchmade so they can fix it perhaps. It does have a life time warranty on it. Go on their site, give them a call and they'll help you out :)

  • nutn where are you finding the osborne for 125? can't find it anywhere for that little

  • @unitaper it was $125 when it was 154cm steel, they've now upgraded to s30v stainless steel which is more expensive

  • you could send some knife sharpening biz my way nutnfancy:-)

  • Awesome review!

  • I have a benchmade 940 in green with te s30v blade, I absolutely love it, though I was disappointed in the edge out o box. Other than that, it's one of my favorites.

  • WHO DARES TO DISLIKE THIS KNIFE!!!!

I know 13 people who dicked around with this knife and cut themselves.

  • $140, good grief

  • hey everybody! i was thinking bout getting this knife but i was wandering if it would work to be used for some lightweight whittling?

  • @TheTobyKing If you will mainly just be whittling, i would say go with the griptilian. Solid knife for half the price. :D

  • @TheTobyKing I used it on a camping trip last week and it did amazing on wood. Just carving spears and what not. I can imagine that it would work great at whittling as well. I used the S30V steel and it still has a shaving sharp edge on it after my trip.

  • I think this knife has very stiff competition with the Kershaw Breakout (auto). Very identical in specs, but not in price.

  • @8ball29 You get what you pay for and benchmade is no different, reliability and craftsmanship are hard to match when it comes to benchmade in the mass produced knife world, they dont fuck around.

  • Nutn how much is this knife?

  • OOOOO the 941 is out now and its clip point. Now I'm having trouble on deciding which to buy.

  • I was checking this knife out on amazon; apparently the blade steel is s30v now!

  • Oh God that's a sexy knife.

  • @DerRelienT

I know. I've slept with mine...

  • great knife, this is my first benchmade, but i thought it was gonna be the best of the best in quality but any spyderco is the same or even better in terms of construction, material its whats good about this knife. I expected more.

  • I wanted to get this knife but for how much it was and how nice it is I just don;t think I could bring my self to use it let alone take it outa the box

  • hey veri how much would it cost to send a knife to nutn to get the knife duracoated for 2 knives in black tactical and green and acu grey camo

  • benchmade makes some awesome blades but they're so expensive

  • @tamaplayer22 I know but they are worth every single penny.

  • How do you send a knife to razors edge, because my dad reprofiled one of my blades and lets say it didn't come out pretty... So now i don't let him get anywhere near my knives!

  • @Tux3d0 Lots of our guys have just mailed him their blades and he's done great work for them. Call the shop and talk to John. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Okay thanks Veri!

  • @nutnfancy I WOULD LIKE TAKE THE KNIFE FROM YOU...SO I CAN CHOP OFF YOU AND YOUR DADS AND YOUR GRAND DADS BALL AND USE THEM IN MY BLACK SMOOTH BUNGHOLE AS ANAL BEADS...FOR PLEASURE.

  • I just recently picked up a 940. Did they make the axis lock spring tighter in the newer models?

  • i bought this knife and the color of green looks like no one elses! but anyways.... after i open the knife like 10 times it gets massive blade play.... do i just use lock tite on it? what kind of lock tite and where can i get it?

  • @DaBossk hardware store for locktite and put it in the pivot screw NO WHERE ELSE...are you sure it isnt a copy of the knife?

  • @patruick94 what do you mean a copy of the knife?

  • @DaBossk I highly doubt it is, but it could be a fake. Did you buy it brand new and receive the box?

  • @patruick94 well i got it local from a place called "sportsman's warehouse" and yeah came with the box and everything.... such a weird color tho lol

  • @DaBossk curious, I would just use the locktite then. Goodluck!

  • @DaBossk just make sure you get BLUE loctite! good luck!

  • @coolerthancoolest78 yah lol thanks i got it today and its working, anyways does yours have like no blade detent or is it just me? its like really weak blade detent!

  • @DaBossk Great! good to hear! such a great knife. anyway they dont have traditional detents such as ball detent, instead to hold the blade in the have kind of a slope towards the choil of the blade that the axis lock just kind of slides into and in essence, just sucks the blade back into the handle.

  • @coolerthancoolest78 yeah it works its a good knife

  • changed the title nut'n?

I just got a 940 and 707. Noticed the pivot screw comes loose on both. Guess I'm gonna have to lock-tight it. You think benchmade would fix that. Haven't had that problem on my spyderco's... yet.

    Keep up the good work.

  • @sudburyfitness

I have the exact same problem with this and the kulgera lock tite didnt do as good as i had hoped.. still a great knife

  • Man, i gotta tell you i just love listening to u ramble if you will haha about knives. i am only 16 and working part time and slowly but surely growing my knife collection. I love inspecting knives just seeing all the engineering that goes into them, my dads a gunsmith so i know how much precision and R&D goes into some of these knives. Im hooked! i cought the sickness...:p

  • I want to get this knife it is sooo cool! should I get a damascus or a normal 154 CM steel one like this one? is damascus worth the money?! pls knifelovers help me!

  • @Much2Good2Know i own one of these and it is the BEST knife i've ever purchased. The new blades employ a higher quality steel in my opinion S30V.

  • @Much2Good2Know

damacus has no value and is not necessary get s30V steel Its what it comes with now. Upgraded in 2007 i believe

  • Sorry if this has been asked-- what is your favorite EDC knife these days?

  • @outdoortoday just some random guys opinion here buutttttttttttttt........the benchmade 551 griptilian full size straight edge.......it is a fantastic knife :)

  • @mlgprotipsy Thanks

  • we need a perfect "knife system"---a large fixed blade, small fixed blade (backup), multi-tool and small-medium folder for utility.

My system is Sog Creed, Rat Izula, Leatherman Wave and Benchmade Mini-Griptilian.

Anybody else agree with this? Any thoughts?

  • @TadRapidly In all honesty, simplicity is sometimes the key. Yeah, I see how someone could want a do-it-all tool/blade combo but there is really no task that requires all of those. EDC tasks rarely require a fixed blade, tactical tasks rarely require a multi-tool, survival doesnt either. While it may sound like a no-brainer to make something like that, when you start to gain experience in each role you want simplicity and effectiveness. It would be quite collectable though. Just my thoughts. =)

  • @LTJones100 Sorry :-( I'm not referring to EDC with this comment--my bad on that. I'm just talking general wilderness / urban survival kit-wise. i think it would be fun to hear people's choices on a grouping similar to mine.-it would open up a lot of discussion!

  • why do you prefer the belt clip at the "bottom" end? this seems to be the common placement on high end knives but i can't figure out why. logic tells me the other end is superior in every way so it seems that i'm missing something. with it at the "top" end it seems that you have no chance of stabbing yourself and that it will naturally be in your hand in the correct position once retrieved. what am i missing?

  • Nutnfancy

Do you really still think this is truly the best tactical or edc choice out there? Since posting this video, you have also done reviews on the endura 4 ffg and other amazing knives. Can this knife still compete despite being of an older design?

  • i would still go with auto knife (personal opinion ) because if ur in a high stress situation u would have to lock that knife from what i see a auto knife u just press a button no thinking involved thats why i like auto . my uses is mostly self defense

  • 5:26

"I BUY IT, Don't DICK Around"

    Lmao

    good stuff.

  • I never heard nutn cuss. hmmmm...

  • @fireclub493 Its extremely rare... --- Veri

  • @fireclub493

what you call dick a cuss word?? hahahahah youd hate being around me

  • @chrisbucchino I thought he said f***

  • After almost 2 years of pining over this knife, I finally ordered one and just received it yesterday. It immediately became my favorite one! With a knife as beautiful and well made as this, I know it's not just the new factor. Next Benchmade I purchase will be the Kulgera, which will probably give the 940 a run for it's money. Damn, this is an EXPENSIVE hobby!

  • My friends make fun of me because I have like 12 knives. NUTNFANCY U HAVE 5 940s DID U WIN THE LOTTERY OR ARE U CRAZY

  • I just ordered one of these for 130 from amazon.

  • im loookingfor about 80 folding knife that could be used for self defense and every day use any suggestions?

  • @jacobjiujitsu69 Spyderco Endura :D definatly and you can find it under 60 bucks man trust me it will not do you wrong

  • i can't decide between this and the spyderco sage 2 which are about the same price

  • Nutnfancy really really overrated this and exaggerated its greatness.

  • its S30V

  • Thanks for the review! Is tge griptilian slower than this? Anybody please answer

  • i dont understand, why do u have so many knives...how many bodies do you have under your house?

  • @flexwheelR It's called a collection. Maybe you've heard of it, it's where a person has many of a certain type of item in different variations.

  • I've had this knife for about two years now, and have carried it with me every day since seeing this review! The clip has worn out most of my jean pockets, but the knife still works great. @nutnfancy Any suggestions for getting the blade resharpened? I've totally abused mine and it's losing it's edge.

  • @coolgeekish You can send the knife to Benchmade to have it resharpened. Look at the LifeSharp program under Services on their site.

  • @coolgeekish there are many blade sharpening options out there. too many to mention. just google it.

  • Just found this baby on amazon for 120 woot!!!

  • I just went to Benchmade's website to check out their blades but their site is a nightmare to navigate. They just lump everything together and the only categories they have are "product classes gold, blue, black, red" which makes it total guesswork to sort what's inside. No such sorting per blade size, type, use.. nothing! ugh.

  • ahhhh...back when Nutnfancy's vids were 10mins. Really wish he'd break his reviews down to 10 mins again.

  • can you switch the thumb stud forr a left handed person?

  • you are the BEST in knife and firearm reviews.

  • guys im planning on getting a few benchmade knives for chrismas and where is the best/cheapest place to buy them from

  • @MAXEDoutRUSTY I like knifecenter dote come..

  • just asking, but after seeing many different designs overtime after this vid, is it still the best tactical/EDC choice?

  • I love how at the end nutn pulls out like five knives and just says, "I know I'm sick." Awesome lol! Keep those vids comin.

  • I bought my 940 when I was 16, spent my entire paycheck on it. I've had it 8 yrs now it survived 4 years in the marines with 2 tours in Iraq. I decided long ago I'd never need another general carry pocket knife. Good review.

  • Found one today at a gun and knife show and took the plunge. Took the plunge and bought it as my first benchmade. Must say probably the highest quality knife I have ever touched. Can't wait to pull out my sexy green reverse tanto blade in public. It is extremely functional piece of eye candy.

  • Comment removed

  • Such a beautiful knife, but I can't justify spending that much on it.

  • ya stop dicking around

  • i know that Gerber has a F.A.S.T knife folder, and i have it. persinally, i like it, but not as much as the other Gerbers i've had. i once had the AR 3.0, a folder, not spring assisted, and it opened faster than my F.A.S.T spring knife. seriously.

  • It's definitely over-priced. I will probably sell mine and buy a shotgun...

  • Many moons ago I thought I would never buy a benchmade bcause they were expensive and I didn't like their designs at that time, too much. Today my benchmades are my top fav folders. Who would've thought?

  • hey quick question nd dont think im a hater,, like i carry a knife all the time just as a tool just wonderin have u actually ever needed to defend yourself with your blade

  • hey nutn witch would you recomend for me this knife or the 950 rift please reply

  • Just bought 2 benchmades, this one and the mini presidio ultra. The 940 has the quality of a custom knife

  • Ive clipped the 942 on my pocket since 2001 and I still love to fondle it lol. Great edc blade.

  • I saw this knife today in the local gun store and bought it on a whim. It's now one of my top favorites.

  • Nutn just curious but did i see a teleprompt in the reflection of the blade? lol i was like huh.... cause i saw a blue screen with white letters at around 3:50, just curious and observant :) ~TNPer

  • @TheTNPer lol. its probably a computer screen.

  • Nut'n you are correct. Once you buy a Benchmade you are hooked. My first B/M was the Griptilian 551. The Lo & behold!!! I got the B/M 2550 Mini-Reflex Auto Black Satin. I now EDC both daily on top of all my duty gear, Sig P229,Asp, Pepper Spray, S&W cuffs, Motorola etc. I own a TON of knives, Sog,Kershaw,Boker, Meyerco,ColdSteel,S&W,Gerber. BUT B/M is tops. LOVE my B/M 2550 Mini-Reflex. BTW I got that one from one of your reviews. Thanks Dude

  • how do u have so many of the 940

  • Where did you get the one with the red handle? I can only find the green handle

  • It's just my opinion, but any knife to be potentially used as a weapon should have deep choils or components to protect the fingers in use, as well as a rough, high friction grip. This knife has neither, despite it's high price.

  • I just got one in green, satin blade yesterday and I love it.

  • man i just love Benchmade

  • nutn u should review a benchmade rift 950 bk

  • How much does Razors Edge charge to sharpen? I have one that Id like to have convexed, do they do that too? Thanks, great knife

  • The red model is sexy. I thank my friend for showing me his or else I probably would be missing out on this particular knife.

  • what do you like better 940 or the 950 rift sbk

  • @Darkstar2520 Dude, the 940 is so much nicer. The Rift is a heavier use knife. It's a Griptilian on roids

  • I just found out that this blade design is actually called "spey point".

  • Isn't this great, my Wang is as hard as a prostetic leg!!!!!

  • its a double action thats why it comes out so fast and thats due to the AXIS system i love their AXIS lock i have an HK folder i love it, its my favorite and i only wish i could get my hands on an osbourne but the price is crazy. but ya love this knife lol

  • I have only just recently subscribed and started watching your knife reviews. I was wondering if you will ever start doing butterfly knife reviews along with all many other kinds of blades you review. Otherwise I have nothing at all to complain about, your reviews are very comprehensive and informative. Thank you very much.

  • @TheTaoofJKD He doesn't review anything that he isn't into right off the bat

  • Hello Mr. Nutnfancy, While you mention this knife is "manual action," it appears to have "assisted opening" technology. Would you please clarify whether or not this model is an "assisted opening" folder? Thank you

  • @quanfa88 i believe what looks to be a release mechanism is actually a safety lock

  • @skiierboy01 Thanks.

  • @quanfa88 It isn't assisted opening. The knife just has a very smooth pivot and lock system that allows it to open very easily and quickly.

  • @evahnyird Thank you!

  • Whats a good knife for a blood sucking gold buyer to carry, any suggestions.

  • i just got a black coated green handle half serrated one. is it collectable?

  • i started not taking you seriously when you mispronounced "tanto"

  • If that knife came in blue with a Carson flipper, it would be my new favorite edc knife.

  • All the 940 Osborne are S30V not 154C --- S3mi

  • @nutnfunny

The 940 was originally made with 154CM before Benchmade released it in S30v.

  • I love my 943

  • whats a way to find out about limited/collectible versions of knives?

  • Wanna do a trade since you have too many of these?

  • just saw this knife reviewed by someone else, i sat through 1 min of yappin and came straight here thankyou nutnfancy, and veri your awesome

  • I just got mines today. I was trying to open it like you did and I cut myself. Bleeding for 12 minutes. Im surprised about how sharp it is. Thanks.

  • where could I find this model for retail

  • wow now this knife is about 180 bucks

  • @viperdude400ltd yeah benchmade is a very expensive brand

  • @viperdude400ltd I see the prices online fluctuate anywhere from $105 to $150 or so. Frequently you can catch a sale for a very good price, just check often.

  • @viperdude400ltd Amazon is selling the standard 940 for $130.

  • 125$? Buy a Gerber for 20$-50$. Sheesh.

  • @JonnyMonster91 a gerber isnt a benchmade

  • @viperdude400ltd

But a benchmade is an overpriced hunk.

  • @viperdude400ltd

But a Benchmade IS an overpriced piece.

  • hey nutn :) r u thinking of selling any of those?

  • @lFlash4 Your comment is pointless, you've not viewed any of his videos. His knife use is evident there. Now stop trolling. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy errr i want to say sorry for offending you guys, but at the same time i don't believe that these are bought past collection and maybe slight use here and there.... perhaps i made a mistake and for that i apologize but what is it that these knives are usually used for past collecting?

  • @lFlash4 Yeah it depends on the person. I don't buy knives that I don't plan on using. So I only have like 4 knives (!). These types of vids help me pick and choose good options.

  • @lionchamp777 yeah i guess collectors have their place in the world helping us find the best products for our needs.. you make a good point. sry vid guy

  • @nutnfancy Veri, what is the nutnfancy like ability scale on this beauty?

  • @elnino482 Nutn says its a 10 out of 10. Glad you asked, I'll update the sidebar info. =) -- Veri

  • @Verilioness Thanks Veri! ;)

  • @lFlash4 ...veri's right, troll

  • @lFlash4

I'm glad you have evidence from whoever "you people" are that is proof we don't use our expensive knives.
