  • what a gifted actress pat hayes was. thank you so much for posting this. ground breaking in it's day.

  • That's Vivian MacKerrell at the end, sniffing the drugs-the real Withnail....

  • I remember watching this as a little boy, I found it heart breaking. Poor Edna, I used to see women [and men] like her in the streets, carrying all their wordly goods in a few plastic bags and looking all dirty. Always pulled at my heart strings.

  • I have posted some comments following the final section, but wanted to say thank you for posting this as it is a play I have always wanted to see. Sadly the BBC has never seen fit to release it on DVD, which has to be one of the most unfortunate oversights in televisual history. Where did you find it? It hasn't been shown since the late 1970s, when I understand it was repeated once...

  • Thinking again about this later, I mentioned today about this play to my Mother and she remembers it pretty well.

    After 40 years.

You MUST stick with this until the end...

  • Brilliant- I've wanted to see this for so long! Patricia Hayes was a great actress- especially in her Hancock's Half hour episodes. Mrs Cravatte was easily a match for 'The Lad Himself'.. :)
