Take you're meds and Calm Down! The RTC was not that stupid, shit happens sometimes. and no the train did not go into emergency. I'm a railroader and no it wasn't scary either.
That happend to me in Fresno. A Amtrak was on the platform track, (not the station track) A BNSF was coming around the other end and the track was not switched. I ran to the train (not my best Idea) a held up my hand signaling to stop, and pointed to the track. He went into emergency and stopped almost 10 feet away from the Amtrak San Joaquin.
@Howard1939 I know it would have been better, but I took it and moved the tripod over so the engineer could see the track and have more of a view space. I would have normally used a tripod though. And thanks!
Your video would be much better if you don't constantly zoom in & out.. Likewise a tripod would help immensely in steadying the camera (Assuming your camera has a tripod socket.). Otherwise GOOD JOB..!
The kid at the end that said "See, I'm helping" I say he was right and the others were not...Especially the kid video taping the train, he was more not saying to do anything....I give the guy that said "I was helping" all the credit on that one
I don't think it was emergency though. It did stop right quick, but if the air dumped you'd hear a LOUD and fast "PSHHHHH" sound. Still, it was a good thing you pointed that out to her... I am sure she would have noticed it, and if she hadn't noticed and ran it over, she'd have noticed she was going into another train and safely made a stop, especially at that low speed. Nevertheless it's better safe than sorry. Thanks for sharing the video!
they were running at restricted signal indication since the track was lined into an occupied block. mistakes like this happens but its on the crews to be on the lookout for stuff like this. when you guys react like this, crews could panic causing them to go into emergency (when its not needed) which could result in a derailment
By the way, she didn't go into emergency. You would have hear a loud resonating bang of air if the train had gone into emergency because an emergency application propagates through the whole train to make it as fast as possible. All you can hear is a hissing which means that the engineer just made a heavy application.
I respect what these guys did, as a railroader myself, even with 6.27 in effect, these things happen, like jack london square for instance. This really could have been bad if the crew wasn't paying attention.
Holy s***. Doesnt help that their between control points Ash and what ever the next one is. Dispatchers are always busy but thats no exception for something lile this.
It has happened on my shortline. Our only runs are excursions for the SC RR Museum. And some kid threw our Ramp Track switch. And we come in moving at Restricted speed(10 MPH), and our engineer notices. And dumps the air. Needless to say we were shock up. And I had to go line that switch. After we stopped
Railfans like us do help save lives. It was smart thinking to tell the engineer and conductor of the coaster to stop. If you guys weren't there that day then there would have been a collision. 5* for bravery and awesomeness.
All I can say is holy s**t! Wish action got that interesting here in the Bay Area! Don't listen to any critics of the way you guys freaked out. I admit that I would've been the same way had I witnessed this.
Dude it was going like 10mph it would have noticed right away and would have done the same thing that engine had plenty of time to stop between the train and 2105

Nice catch... However the train never when into emergency. The dispatcher couldn't switch the tracks until the train was cleared of the CP.

They need to get out of the CP to make the switch change. That's probably why they backed so far back.

This is a common mistake! Calm down everyone! AND we generally don't like a bunch of talking during the video. Less professional.

By the way, the switch can't be thrown and a new signal lineup can't be made until the train is clear of the OS block (in this case, the CP).
Locomotive450 1 month ago
@Locomotive450 That's what I told them.
UP5853 1 month ago
Railfans doing their job! This is exactly why the coaster is running at restricted speed south of the signals at CP Ash.
Locomotive450 1 month ago
@Locomotive450 And this is why they don't trust Metrolink to dispatch them anymore.
