I've been told 2 folk tales about how tabbies got the "M" on their foreheads. 1. The prophet Mohammed loved cats. One of his cats fell asleep on the sleeve of his robe. He cut off the sleeve rather than disturb the cat, so cat wore an M on its forehead for the "M" in Mohammed. 2. When Jesus was born a cat warmed him in the manger. The Virgin Mary petted the cat and it wore an M on its forehead for the "M" in Mary. 2 stories from 2 backgrounds. But all about love between cats and people. :-)
