my kids used to like this song at bedtime. they're in their 30's now. get over that argument about the drifters, ben e. king stuff, there are precious few unheard sounds, arrangements, in this modern youtube age. stop, breathe, enjoy. want to argue about eno? debate the pros/cons between "music for airports" and"music for elevators". when you finish your nap(coma), get with us and listen to some music.
Nice song, but I was a bit shocked when my mom pointed to the striking melodic similarity between the first line of this song and that of the classic Drifters song 'Save the Last Dance for Me' from seventeen years earlier... and I have to say I greatly prefer what the Drifters did with this piece of melody.
@Godbluffer Check out the original version with Ben E. King doing the lead vocal. Clearly the best. Just paste ZeHuQDHTs5Y after the = in the address part of your browser for a youtube video of that one.
Eno is definitely top shelf, but don't forget Zappa, Miles Davis, Fripp, Bowie, David Sylvian and Bryan Ferry ! He created Ambient Music and he produced so many other artists and he has a huge impact on how music is produced in the studio and the tech that is used. In that way the industry advanced and his impact is that much greater. He's a great artist in his own right too. The sounds he gets in the studio are incredible ! If I did an album I would want him to produce it !!!
Thanx for this hunchybunker. One of my favourite Eno songs. Bittersweet yet uplifting 4 me but that's just my head i guess. Amazing bass riff propelling this song. What does the Arabic calligraphy say btw?
I remember going into record stores and finding Brian Eno's music scattered all over the place. His music is beyond categorization, a veritable compendium of the human essence and experience captured in sound. What a grand and wonderful catalogue of music he has created for us. Heart, mind, soul- his music has it all.
OK.. I first heard this heavenly piece of music on a campus radio station my parents were listening to back in 1981 or so and fell in love with it...bought the "More Blank Than Frank" comp which featured this song a few years later when I started my first job after school....I'm now in my late 30's and I'd still consider it to be one of my Top 5 favorite rock tracks ever. Thanks Brian (and to all the other musicians who performed on this awesome track)
I bought Before and after Science with the lithos on day of release in 1977. Lightning Records warehouse, Harrow Road, West London. Could of got ten copies with the prints...Wish I had and at a 30% discount.
One of my abiding regrets is not buying an original 2nd hand vinyl copy, including the inner art work, in a Barcelona market!! I was broke at the time, but it probably wasn't v expensive...Still kick myself over that one. Great album.
@captainleg07: I know... 10 years ago I was lucky enough to find perfect copies of all four watercolors on ebay, framed them and they now grace my living room wall! You nvr know, you still might find them...
man i used to play this song over and over...hav'nt heard it in a while....still great!!!!

Мы стояли на плоскости с переменным углом отражения,
Наблюдая закон, приводящий пейзажи в движение,
Повторяя слова, лишённые всякого смысла,
Но без напряжения, без напряжения...

love this song and many others that Eno did on his first few albums — genius indeed!

I love Eno's music, but I think he's the kiss of death for any band he's ever produced.

@HorseBadorties
What?!
He made Talking Heads brilliant.
He even made U2 and Coldplay better, though granted that's not very difficult.

Can't remember who said it: "There is no such thing as a genius, just acts of genius." Bollocks. Brian Eno is a genius.
