bad ass tank. only thing i have a beef about is the mandarine goby. Unless he's use to eating frozen or you have an ample supply of copepods he shouldn't be in there imho.
20g is a very limited space. I can't put a chunk of colony and have much varieties. I have a lot of tanks, so I put the bigger colonies in bigger tanks. I like to keep a lot of different stuff in my tanks so this is how i layed the corals out.
we have a fresh water aquarium for 1 year and just started a saltwater aquarium last night we have one live rock and live sand and we also added 2 damsels last night and there doing fine they are swimming around and they are doing good so fare
what the hell happened to the tank next to it. it looks like ass. dont comment on my tank because looks like ass in that video. my new acount is mroccoralman. your main tank has shit lights and sell some of the shit corals and get cooler corals. i rather have some sick as coral than 20 shit ones. there is some advice.
This is why I hate yet love reef tanks, it looks like you just threw the frags down and have a collect em' all mentality, but they are so cool it's hard not to...
Its simply a frag tank a reef tank would actually look like a reef !! Take some of the live rock out of the ref. and build a reef tank then post it.....
ur not suposed to have one of thoes fish in thare it needs a 30 to 45 gallon tank!!!!! it is the one on the bottom the name is long and i dont feal like spelling it !!!!
@TOXIC8o3o1 I beg to differ I think it's a very well put together tank... rimless is a preference and how the tank is set up I think covers that "inferiority" and the lighting is more than enough
@HeyHolypie yes look at the frag placed at the stand in rows the mandarin barely has any space to dwell around or else he will get stung by the corals
@redo7706 it was a joke, you can get them basically at any saltwater fish supplier. there are people who breed them so sometimes you can find them cheap if you look at the right places.
You seem to know a good bit about lighting and corals, I have an 80 watt dual power compact fixture, 420 nm and 460 nm actinics and 6700k and 10000k of bright light. What can I keep with this? I was told just zoanthids and maybe mushrooms? The tank is about 1 foot deep with 8.5 lbs of live rock and 2 inches of live sand with a paired tiger pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby.
I use the plastic egg crates as a lid. With the T5s i didnt see that much of a temp increase so i left the glass versa top on. But we switched to MH cause i wanted a clam and got a hell of a deal on it. With the glass versa top i would probly boil my fish alive lol.
@xClawed Yea I use the egg crates during the summer, but my fish tanks with jumpers go through that sometimes. Glass top heats my tank during the summer as it is freakishly hot in my place. I have a 4 bulb T5, tends to heat up a lot
@Hoggs858 Yea I can really put colonies of Corals in a small 20gallon tank. Especially when I have bigger tanks available on the side. Nice tank you got on your channel. Can't see it though.
lol accept that youre wrong, you obviously need a top if your fish has already jumped, youre just risking it, and business wise thats really unprofessional.
@pbmaniac2009 I do have a glass top. Just looks better on the video without it. I take them off when I'm home regardless. Do your research, cuz T5 lights heat up the tank during the summer if you don't have a chiller. Having a glass top rises the tank temperature by almost 5-6 degrees.
@pope3652009 20 gallon long with a 20 gallon long sump. That sump is way oversized for a purpose. It has enough copepods for my mandarin, more than it can handle. I've been in this hobby a long time and I actually deal in business with livestock so I know what i'm doing -_-
@pbmaniac2009 and you would know that just becuase i can jump i dont always. its a toss up wether or not they do. i have several jumpers and i have an open top and never had a death yet
@ShinLa83 youre wrasse will compete with the mandarin for food, mandarins arent fast swimmers, your mandarin will starve, even with your 20 gallon sump. and please do youre research before trying to say im wrong. also the t5 lights will spook the fire fish, because of the quick switch from dark to light. unlike metal halides.
@pbmaniac2009 Mandarin eats copepods and Pink Streaked Wrasse are shy, and non-aggressive eaters unlike other wrasses. Mandarin Gobies will do fine with a 20 gallon sump from a tank that's over a year or more. He is fat and healthy. An undisturbed supply of copepod population is thriving in my sump. You're trying to teach me something I'm already doing and I find this funny. Spook the firefish? All they need are good hiding spots to dart back in. They aren't bothered by lights. Do your research
@pbmaniac2009 ok people can use timers (which some fixtures have installed on them) to make actinics go on and then whites..that way it's not as abrupt in light brights. He's showing this tank for people to watch, not criticize!
@stylez559 I added fish in about 5 days, but that's because I used the Hagen Nutrafin Cycle. After following the instructions I added Brightwell's MicroBacter7 as instructed, speeded up the cycling process extremely fast. One fish every 2 weeks. Corals, after about a month =} normally, without those items mentioned, you would cycle 3 to 4 weeks
@stylez559 If you add some live sand and live rock in the day you fill your tank up with water there will be almost no cycle and you could add fish in a couple of days
@28GallonBowfront It all depends on testing the water. Adding new water to a new setup will have to go through a cycling process regardless.. unless you are transferring tanks
I just started my 20 gal long. . . Is only the second week of cycle. . . My question is: how many fish could put in my 20 gal long 'cause I'm thinking of transferring my firefish and my blue tang from my 20 gal high to my 20 gal long. and I was also thinking of buying 2 clarkii clown fish and 2 little blue chromis. . do you think that's too many?
@karlek110188 for one no tang should be in anything under 50gal unless its just to house them for awhile then move up in size, research blue tang mate.
in my personal opinion, i dont like all the live rocks, and coral and stuff. id much rather keep it simple and have a 55 gallon or a 30 gallon freshwater tank. mayby get an oscar or some sick community fish.
start with the size of tank & what you want to put in it, you have to have 500$- 1k for a decent setup & will increase because its an addicting demanding expensive hobby... @hinangel
Just wait til they get bigger hahaha Looks really nice though. Personally don't like the coral in from of you "reef" kinda not natural looking enough for me but to each their own, looks good
very very nice tank, I'm seriously considering setting one up. One question though, dnt you think the mandarin needs a bigger tank? everywhere I've read it says that they eat a lot of copepods and they could starve in small tanks.
@joekahuna69 You can train your Green Mandarin to eat frozen brine shrimp. I got lucky because it ended up eating pellet foods as well. Normally they require 30 gallon and above which has to be very mature, but look at the size of my refugium. It's the same size as my main tank. I only have to feed it once a week just to make sure, but that refugium produces enough copepods for the Mandarin. Any other questions, i'll gladly answer them :)
wait did u drill it when it was already setup? but it looks awesome mine so far only has live rock and 2 snails, 2 blue legged hermits, and a emeral crab
@EcBuddy123 No, haha. I drilled it before putting everything up. Drilled 3/4" on drain and 1/2" on return. I cut the acrylic sheets for baffles in the sump and got All-Glass Silicone :) Everything was done before adding water
I don't really get why you lay the corals out like that, but to each their own I guess. Looks more like a holding tank for the corals.
