I developed a habbit of squeezing my hands together making noises. Eventually (about a year later) it occurred to me that I could play tunes this way and eventually I perfected it.
Weird. I try and do that, but I just cannot seem to get a squeak. One guy told me he has his hands really wet, one guy said his hands are really dry. I have really huge hands... Does that hinder this ability?
I've always wanted to do this. Oh well, if I cannot, I always have the harmonica.
When you couple your hands together to produce a noise there has to be a tight seal so that when you squeeze them a noise can be produced. If the hands are too moist it affects the tone and if they are too dry it is harder to produce a tight seal unless you squeeze harder.
I'm skinny so I have to squeeze tighter even if my hands aren't too dry. If someone has larger hands, smaller hands, or thicker hands it would merely affect the tone produced and also determines how much energy one spends while playing.
Don't give up the harmonica but keep trying to play your hands as well.
And now for something completely different...

An unusual, hands on approach to music making.
Of all versions, this one must be awarded the palm.
