  • @ 1:50, is the french air force.

  • Hmmm, I hought this was a video about the French Foreign Legion, and their pride of their unit. Or did I miss something here?

    (ex legionnaire 18000)

  • Oh France, U SO CRAZY

  • Very honestly, there is nothing we can do : ALL HATES US, and all came for from countries that leads the world : USA, ENGLAND so and so ... this is very easy for them to pretend we are cowards just because they do not want to know what happens in vetwenns 1WW ans 2WW ... BUT NOW : USA is leaving IRAK (1st tchnologic army of the world) is not ABLE to occuied IRAK! USA lost every were, us veteran are all depressed and we, the frogs are COWARDS!

  • Alls hate and realy hate us ... my grand fafher an officer were killed in battle of France, his father the same, my father was pilot in french algaria war (horror, mutilation so dans so) for exemple, two brther of my grand mother were killed in 1WW, father of my mother was french nazi collaborator (what can I do againts that?) and her grand father was injuried until dead ... and now, when french soldier are killed in action in Afhanistan, american applaudide (just read the comments) ...

  • Guck an: Die marschieren mit 'Schlachterschürze' .

  • Vive la legion! One of todays' elite fighting forces,,I'm an ex-US marine

  • At your peril! Do not confuse the Foreign Legion with the French Army!

  • @414jockey

What matters is not where they come from. They are honorable people who have given their lives in the service of our Nation. We owe them total recognition, and that is my case personally. I have an immense lot of respect for the Légion Etrangère. They are some of the bravest and also their patriotism and sense of duty towards the French Republic cannot be doubted.

  • Best force and best march bar none. Proud to have trained with these brave guys: and true they do march at 88 to minute.

  • music is nice but bildetog what happend is not good

  • after 1914 france and Britain had suffered much more b ecause each had half the population of germany and they didn't want any more war in europe. So they were not good prepared and they failed at the beginning.

  • @BRIOCHIN22000 In 1939 France had the largest army in the world. What do you mean they were not prepared? What France was lacking was guts. Germany overran France in only 6 weeks. That huge army had no leadership, no spirit, no guts. You would think an army would fight its hardest to defend its home soil.

  • @BRIOCHIN22000 Absolutely true, the survivors of 1914-18 were still fairly young men and the memory of that was too painful. My wife's mother was only 16 and one of many who cried all day when war was declared in 1939.

  • Like in most armies, there were cowards and heroes in french army in 1940 ! Petain and his motherfucker's band betrayed France, French army, people, and most of all French navy who had to scuttle all it's warships to avoid them to fall in nazi's hands as promised to the brti's in 1940.

  • Just a small problem : this march is played too quickly -the Legion walk at 88 step/min. and a "normal" army at 120.

    But the music is perfect.

  • @angel75020 88 beats also on this channel

  • the french foreign legion isn't from france. that's why they're called the foreign legion...because they're all foreigners to france. all of us in america can join the french foreign legion, once your time is served you are a french citizen with a french passport and french identity.

  • Whatever you say or think about France, you have to respect the Foreign Legion, a disciplined, strong and very tough fighting force.

  • @MassaJim They are the last great Frenchmen.

  • My, how bad these comments get. The Legion has little to do with being French. It serves French policy. I noted during the first Gulf War, when France participated, the Legion troops were given the end of the line, the left flank of all the forces arrayed in the desert before the attack. It was the most vulnerable spot and they were expected to block any potential attack from the Iraqi side. Someone knew the history and traditions of the Legion.

  • Sorry, but their hats look a bit gay.

  • @mrceebees14 That's a kepi, it's quite popular in the french army and the white kepi's are for the legion only so it's consider a honour to wear a white kepi ;-)

  • If the Czechs woulda stood up to the Nazis in 1938,WWII mighta been avoided!!

Yet we don't call the Czechs"Kolache Eating Surrender Monkeys!!".

  • The French Foreign Legion:Life Takers and Heart Breakers!!

  • alot of brass and fanfare thats all

  • hehe french

  • Can anyone, please, explain me why those guys at 1:34 have axes, beards and that strange outfit?

  • @TheLAZARIDIS1 Pioneers. Traditionally they were the ones who cleared roads, artillery positions, etc.

  • WANKERS

  • The foreign legion was and possibly still is the best fighting unit in the French army they fought to the death in most cases remeber Dien Bien Phu siege where over 2500 men died also Camerone where all died and of course Algeria among many other places where the Legion served with honor

  • all i say about france is i personaly dont dislike them, just there malcontent with the brits and there pathetic government in WW2 XD they surrendered with a pretty powerful army an in WW1 they kicked ass hehe why give up. whoever was in charge god what a pansy but still nice vid and thanks for posting :)

  • @steel1010101 The French missed an opportunity by not invading Germany immediately war was declared in 1939. The bulk of German troops were in the east, they could have swept right through to Berlin and Germany fighting on two fronts. Oh well - hindsight! A German I know in his 90's says it was like a walk in the park with his machinepistol! The French popped up, he fired and they ran off! Don't think it was actually like that. His experiences in Russia were different!

  • @jonjamg You may have to re-read your history books again, it wasn't all that simple, neither for the French comrades, nor for our lot. And Berlin, by the way, is what we Europeans consider quite a long way from the French border.

  • @jonjamg The French were not prepared for WWII when it started, and had they attacked they might well have struggled despite the fact that Hitler didn't have a strong western front. When the attack did come, the French failed to learn the lessons that Poland had shown. They also depended upon the Maginot Line and never considered that WWII would be different. It is, however, also true that their political leadership was weak and fractured.

  • @jonjamg Dude, France wasn't mobilized at all in 1940, they had what they considered a very powerful army in 1940 which in the end proved to be useless against German military tactics and technology, the French fought the Germans with cavalry... try thinking on that... Men charging on horses versus Panzers, they had no way of winning.

  • @Iruth27 France had 117 mobilized army divisions in 1940, 3 were light cavalry and fielded 1200 sabers each & were deployed in the Ardennes. France had decent tanks for 1940. The French Somua S-35 tank was superior to the panzer I & II the primary German tanks of that year. It also had better armor than the Pz III. German tanks didn't get good until 1941 w/ the long 50mm pz III & long 75mm pz IV. The frogs just didn't know how to use their homecourt advantage. Brie & wine won't stop a K-98 slug.

  • @jonjamg not all the french were willing 2 fight...ask ur german friend, who was napoleon??..im sure hes seen berlin??

  • @jonjamg Also at that time the French Army was so much larger and better equipped they would've steamrolled them anyway. It was mainly their WW1 style thinking that doomed them.

  • @jonjamg sic tranzit gloria mundi...

  • @jonjamg The 1939 French army was in no position of invading Germany because their weapons were obsolete and could not compete with the new German tanks and aircraft. Moreover, the tactics employed by the French was outdated compared to the mobility of the new German army. General de Gaulle knew it and wanted to make reforms but the French government ignored him, with the result we all know.

  • @jonjamg The French did not miss out on an opportunity, they was not prepared for war. That is why England and France did not attack Germany. They were hoping for one more year of diplomatic tactics to stall for more time.Besides Germany had more modern weapons and tactics and would have easily defeated both countries in Europe. You have to remember during the battle of France, French tanks could not penetrate the German tanks and or had modern planes to control the skies.

  • @patricia8120 Hitler's army was half of europe away in Poland, he had committed nearly all of his troops. Much of his large weaponry was still horse drawn, it was not all mechanized. The number of tanks available to him was not as great as imagined. Both the allies were too slow in getting off the mark. I hate to say it but Churchill was right all the way along. Hitler could not have fought a war on two fronts at that time, indeed he was unable later when he had more tanks.

  • @steel1010101 I think you have to consider a bit more about the state of things at the time, both in WWI and WWII. WWI was largely a failure of command, and if you bother to read The Guns of August, you'll find that rather clear. In WWII, the French were deeply conflicted, having lost a whole generation in WWI. Their actual treaty obligations were debatable, and they (along with many others) didn't really expect the war. In addition, they believed in the Maginot line.

  • @steel1010101 yes i agree sir...but these r the legion of the dammed..very few french and all willing 2 die..

  • @steel1010101 Charles De Gualle never gave up.

  • @owen82100 Yes he did. He fled to England, and organized an "free" French army, and on D-Day, he held back and waited for the Americans and British to lead the way. The Canadians, Australians, even the Polish landed on D-Day before the French. You would think DeGaulle would have insisted that the first to land in his homeland were his French forces, but as usual, he played it safe, and waited for the Americans to clear a path for his "army".

  • @VA24541 He may of not done anything but the Free French Army which was leaded by him did something, they liberated paris.

  • @owen82100 Eisenhower gave orders for the Allies to hold back and allow the Free French the honour of being the first troops to enter Paris.

  • @owen82100 Make no mistake, the United States Army and the British Army liberated Paris. They did most of the fighting, and stepped aside to permit the French to go in first. If they had relied on the French Army to clear Paris, the Germans would still be there.

  • @VA24541 No, the British Army did nothing in Paris.

  • @owen82100 Oh really? They landed in Normandy BEFORE any French did. None of the liberators went directly into Paris. The British fought along with the American Army from Normandy to Paris. The French lagged behind while the American & British cleared the path. If the French were worth anything at all, they would have fought the Germans in 1940. It took Germany only 32 days to defeat France. The French did not put up much of a fight, not even to defend their own homes.

  • Yes, and had the French coward De Gaulle at the head of the liberation march.

What a joke he was, hiding in England.

  • @1stREMESquaddie De Gaule at least did NOT surrender to the germans like so many french generals did nor did he act under the traiter darlan he at least fought with the British and led the Free French army

  • A great march, done right. No apologies necesssary for the L&H reference :D

  • As a former member of the German Air Force, I bow with respect to one of the best military units, because of their spirit, pride and comradeship.............felicitacions ....all the best for the future.........

  • Can someone tell me why they march slowly?

  • @flashtin166

It looks more impressive, and takes a lot more coordination, displaying their ability to work together as an effective unit.

  • @flashtin166 : Because they eat too many frogs too often.

  • @flashtin166: To show that they normally march in deep desert sand. Makes it difficult for a quick-march.

  • 0:25 Hang on a minute, how are they holding there guns if there arms are behind there backs!? Must be some good training the French have there...

  • legionnaires swear to the legion not to any Queen, President or Country :)

  • the trouble with generations of the french since waterloo is using ones white flag too much!

history has not been too good on french history.

  • @kingbleah White flags? Seriously, what is up with the people who hated on the French military. Sorry, but last time I check, the British had the same problem as the French in WW1 and WW2. Just that UK luckily happen to be separate from the European mainland.

  • @Normacly Why are there so many trees in France? Germans like marching in the shade.

  • @Normacly Teasing the French comes from WW2. The French surrendered to the Germans in a very short amount of time even with a pretty strong army. The Polish still used horses in their army but they refused to give in.

  • @MarkramUK The French did have strong army but weak leadership. Remember, what the Free French Army and the French Resistance sacrificed as well. The French government may had surrender but not its people.

  • @Normacly I for one hate the French because they are nothing but a load of back-stabbing cowards. We come to their aid in both WW1 and WW2 and the SECOND that WW2 is finished they start trying to stab us in the back. They did it in the Falklands, and they are doing it now. We should have done the world a favour and assisted the Germans wipe them out then turned on the Germans with the Americans....

  • @Voltaire152 Given the above, I have to ask.......why did you pick Voltaire as an account name?

  • @Salslo Because i have great respect for France from the period of the 16-19th Centuries, yes we were at war, but at least it was a war of HONESTY. France fought with an honour, integrety and skill she frankly lacks in every fascet of her nation ever since 1918. Also, i loved the line quoted by Voltaire "God is not on the side of the big battalions, but on the side of the best shots", best summerizing the British attitude to war for the last 300 years.

  • @Voltaire152 Also from the war of spainish succession. The war beetween France and GB, France won 7 and Britain won 4......and Britain had more allies in all of the wars.

  • @TMDF100 And Britain also had 2% of the total world pop. while dominating 60% of its total land mass, where as France had the largest armies and a pop ONLY rivaled by Russia from around the 16th-20th Century. Further more most of Britain's allies only provided manpower, the majority of resources, money, etc would come from Britain in every conflict during this period.

  • @Normacly did we allow the germans to keep an air force?

shit my mother would be turning in her grave as a victim of the luftwaffe in wwii

the german airforce? dear oh dear i bet in a few years the united nations will be slling airliners to al queda

  • It actually ain't bad at all with this beat either!... I'm a slower version fan myself, but this one has something too...

  • really don't like those hats.

  • @NottinghamForest22 You should find a Legionare and tell them that...

  • @DrKorn5 I'm not hating or anything, just don't like the style.

  • Really ?? You surpise me, if I remember correctly (please don't hesitate to correct me if I am wrong), but the English government refused for 10 YEARS to extrade a terrorist who killed a lot of people in the French underground in 1995. Before you start attacking other people, should you not check your facts ??

  • Looks good, but thats about all, There are many of my countrymen still in french soil from WW1 & 2, how were we thanked, State sponsored terrosim & murder

  • Awesome uniforms and a FAMAS each? Outta my way, I'm joining the legion

  • @MrWrongoStarr

Let's just hope they didn't give you an apron and an axe instead. :P

    *Just kidding, folks.*

  • No one is marching, it is just a bunch of photographs.

  • they must be running for the germans

  • Never mess with the man with a FAMAS.

  • @WALTERBROADDUS Never mess with the man with any sort of gun, that's my philosophy.

  • silence et respect -la Légion passe !!! l'antériorité de leurs régiments et leur engagement au feu ne supporte aucune critique .GLOIRE ET HONNEUR A LEURS DRAPEAUX ;

  • Don't like the song, but I want a FA-MAS now...

  • Yes cause of course everything a communist regime school system teaches and passes down is an objective truth that intelligent people can trust. You may also ask yourself about the age of your wife and teachers, and how many of them were at Dien Bien Phu. I guess you trust what you read in "The Sun" as well... Nuff said...

  • @Krasnostav its funny cuz it's true! ='D

  • The Foreign legion might be tough to some extent..but I just cant help thinking about Dien Bien Phu!

  • @jpgrygus Try a comparison of numbers, The Legion lost at Camarone as well remember; yet it defined them as Badass and the US is proud of their loss at Alamo. I advise Bernard B Fall's "Hell in a very small place", Jules Roy and an American (Howard Simpson I seem to recall) has also written good books on the subject matter. Read them, then see if you still hold your disinformed and unenlightened opinion.

Literature, your food for enlightenment ;-)

  • @PalleRasmussen And may I be as forthcomming as to suggest a book by a former Viet Minh guerilla called, 'How we kicked French Ass out of Indochina in 3 easy steps'.

  • @jpgrygus Since I have read Giap's work, which you most certainly have not, you may continue to feel and flaunt your ignorance instead. We can talk when you have achieved some enlightenment. Have a good day. Sorry to be so rude, but I have no patience with ignorants who flaunts it and refuses advice on how to further their knowledge.

  • @PalleRasmussen My wife is Vietnamese and I asked her what her school taught about the French forces. She replied "LOSERS". This is the respect shown from those who fought first hand rather than 'read books' like you do.

  • @jpgrygus Well from France, we say LOSERS back to the slit-eyed bastards. True European men fight with discipline, not hide in bushes and tunnels like Viet backstabbers. France was outnumbered six to one, that's why the guerillas won. My friend's grandfather fought and died with courage and valour at that battle. And guess what. It isn't over. One day we're going to descend on stinking pit of a country once more, but we won't take it. We'll just kill them and fly back to Europe.

  • @jpgrygus Poor planning by Staff Officers, made them remain in a valley town surrounded by high ground unaware the Viet Mihn had artillery placed there. We were supplying the French with air drops from Clark AFB, in the Philippines with unmarked C119 planes. The end of French Colonial rule and exploitation was ending. The Legion makes up some of the best in the world, up there with US Special Forces, SAS, and Russian Spetsnaz. I'm sure every country has been beaten in war, once?

  • @hbogart44 I must ask..why werent tactical nuclear weapons used against the viet Minh? The US were in a similar situation at Khe Sanh. There is now way in hell that the US military would surrender to a bunch of commie guerillas. Tactical nuclear weapons were not rulled out by the then US President. Fortunately the NVA got there arses blown away in the hills.

  • @jpgrygus Sometimes when looking back, i get the feeling that the Vietnam War was more of a chance for the military to test all their newfound "toys" that were being developed. But theoretically if they had used nukes of any kind the russians would have been all over our asses.

  • @Krasnostav hahaha

  • look look let sing this song: let bring all those haire face and shave it all, let bring all those haire face and shave it all, let bring all those haire face and shave it all,

let bring all those haire face and shave it all.

  • Clown army with fashion color haha

  • Great Army. I would like to have served in it.

  • @EdPronouncedEd

foreign legion never retreated. Never. They're still in afghanistan, watching U.S army retreat. :) Take a look at le boudin lyrics.

  • @clefde18 You sound like an ignorant child-grow up.

  • fils de la France n'est pas à cause de leur sang, mais à cause du sang qu'ils ont versé. pardonne-moi pour mon français oor:)

  • do they wear white so that they can just put that on a pole in order to surrender as quickly as possible?

  • @lolackay Any legionaire could tear off your head and shit down your neck - except that they have too much respect for their feces.

  • @matureamericanable lol, you took a non serious comment seriously

  • @lolackay The FFL is always serious.

  • @lolackay

    lol

  • That sound exatcly like the Rythm of Usmc hymn !!

  • Old Legion joke: "I joined the Legion last week to forget a girl called Julie... or Marie... or Norma... or Angie... I think...

  • @Lazarus0357 haha you sure forgot her xD

  • @Lazarus0357 Ha trie bien !

  • Legionnaires = Power

  • I'll always remember the FFL in the middle of the Eagle Magazine in the fiftes, though Dan Dare was tops.

  • @1stREMESquaddie Me too - "Luck of the Legion" with Sgt "Tough" Luck and Private Bimberg the Italian who looked and acted like Oliver Hardy. But what was the name of his French sidekick - Corporal ????

  • ya know the FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION has the reputation of doing the dirty work ,,other nations do not,,, RESPECT,,,

  • Somebody please help those boys get rid off their silly flowerbuckets from their heads.

  • While i certainly admire the legion, their uniforms are a shadow of their former ones.

    need updating badly.

  • @sniperquasi

    Parade uniform... you clot......

  • I spent 27yers in the army. I wore a maroon beret as well as a green one. I wish that I could have word a kepi blanc

  • @rayblum1 nothing wrong with those berets my friend i saw service with guys like you and always thought you were no better than me ,but let me tell you my friend i didnt even get in the door for the paras due to a outstanding £15 fine for going thou a red light and failed on wk 7 on commando wk but went in in 76 and my kepi blanc and another green beret enuff said i + i think my green beret is better than yours , ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • 1:30 DES BOULANGERS avec des armes :O oh mon dieu xD

  • Do those "sapeurs" deactivate explosives with an axe? One mine - one bearded schmuck?)) lol

How much 'sapeurs' does it take to hack(literally) an aerial bomb? 10? 20?))

And leather grembiules are sooo effective against mines and explosives....

Instead of "sapeurs" i'd call those dudes "hackers"! lolololmao!)))

At least they seem to be muslim. Thank God, no white guys are constricted to hack anti-tank mines with an axe... Ha!)))

Long Live Foreign Legion, so we can kill muslims legally))

  • The leather Apron is the traditional uniform of the Engineers - Le Sapeurs...Le Sapeurs also wear the traditional facial hair - i.e. the beard...usually cut squarely at the corners

  • le boudin das lied von der blutwurst

  • At 1:38 they look like they are dressed as butchers.

  • Comment removed

  • @DonMeaker

Those are the sappers / sapeurs not butchers

  • @acc2010gdc Thanks for explaining it to me. Why do they wear that smock? Something about not being hoist on their own petard?

  • @DonMeaker No like lumberjacks, because of some legionnaire who oppened the way (with ax) for he others.

  • Salut!

  • What a shitty march for a shitty military!

  • Interesting...Although, I would like to take a closer look at that FAMAS rifle they're holding. Maybe make some modifications to that myself and see how that goes.

  • DICK & DOOF??? NO! GLORY & RICH!!!° Vive La France!

  • We came here to forget.

    Well, I have forgot!

    Let's get out of here.

    Laurel and Hardy...

  • @palonejr "My father fell through a trap door." - "why was he building a house?" - "No they were hanging him" or something like that!!!

What a lot of weather we are having!

  • @palonejr Ah! Thank you for reminding me of L and H!!! Brilliant.

  • It makes me think of Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich in the movie, Morrocco.

    Salute to the Legion.

    Bobby

    A fellow soldier.

  • I heard the 'Belgian reference' refers to the King of the Belgians forbidding his countrymen from joining the Legion during the French Intervention in Mexico during the 1860s. The conflict where the Legion won fame for its stand at Cameron.

  • Salute Legionnaires

  • was in the black watch (rhr)...respect to the legion

  • i cant help think but what band geeks. Kick ass band geeks

  • one of my sons is in the legion i am proud

  • this army have has no use there are capable no doubt but when war comes they will go for strik or mutiny what ever no doubt for examble there another army did in 2008 world cup what a humiliation

  • nice theme to surrender along

  • @chnook5

    Bah ... you stupid blue-greenish banana ...

  • To echo World War sentiments in England - Poor Little Belgium!

  • @jonjamg I'm Belgian.Why "poor little Belgium" european brother???lol

  • @Dimi10b see - Germeka 3 months ago

"Poor little Belgium" was a call to Britons to defend Belgium from the beastly Hun in 1914!

  • Comment removed

  • @jonjamg The native population of the Congo had a different perspective.

  • @kentamitchell As probably did the population of India when the Army of the Raj swung down the Grand Trunk Road. "Ho get away you bullock man. You've heard the Bugle blowed, there's a regiment a'coming down the Grand Trunk Road" (Kipling, Barrack Room Ballads)

  • @Dimi10b le roi des Belges aurait interdit aux Belges de rentrer dans la legion ou d aider la france en 70 , je sais pas trop ..
