  • Really good movie! Truly a testament to what the Henson Company could really do. I'm also impressed that there wasn't a single human character in this movie. Thanks for uploading!

  • Thank you so much!

  • great film, one of my favourites from my youth. have only just realised the themes in the storyline are very similar to tolkeins lord of the rings

  • I miss those fantasy movies

  • Saw "The Dark Crystal" in 70MM.........

  • Awesome soundtrack by Trevor Jones

  • so many memories ^^

  • This is movie is epic. I remember watching it when i was little and being a little frightened and amazed at the same time. Still does is for me. It has a beautiful story line and I personally like the puppets, it has an a=old school feel and shows that you don't need all the stuff we have today to make a great film.

  • Really great movie thx for uploading Bethanerd never would have seen it over here if it werent for you

  • 1:19 POWERFUL TRUTH!

  • @FuzzyRabbit2 well, u obviously cant appreciate good when u see it

  • @FuzzyRabbit2 I completely disagree. I've seen so many movies (like the new Star Wars) where the graphics just killed the movie. No plot. No characters--killer graphics. But no soul.

This movie has a soul, and so it will always beat soul-less movies. And that goes regardless of whether or not you like puppets.

Besides, I think the physical dimension of the movie is wonderful. I can watch this movie and wonder "how did they do that?" With new movies, I can easily dismissed them. "Green screen."

  • @carlotta4th WTF are you talking about with "soul" or no characters, or no plot? All the new Star Wars movies had soul characters and a plot, maybe your just to retarded to realize it. And on the category of Star Wars, The original 3 Star Wars movies did not use green screen, AND THOSE MOVIES KICKED ASS! Its not all about green screen. Its about computer graphics. So dont talk to me about soul. The movie blowed big chunks. Thats the Fact, live with it.

  • @FuzzyRabbit2 Well, I guess we're just going to have to disagree, because I try not to insult people with varying opinions. You may think differently than I do, but that's fine. You keep your opinions, and I'll keep my own.

  • @FuzzyRabbit2 calm down fanboy, no need for name-calling. the original 3 kicked ass, the new ones were garbage. characters and plot maybe, but poorly executed and with terrible acting. anakin could've been the greatest hero-turned-villain in the history of film, but for some reason they chose Christensen to play him. they might as well have used a piece of cardboard with speech bubbles.

the only new star wars to have better reviews than this movie was episode III, and not by a whole lot.

  • A lot of people have mentioned how creepy this movie is to them. As vibrosnor said it is about a world that is "nothing like ours."

But I think another reason may be because it makes one think of things like time and destiny and the future-all things that are sort of unknowns- and the unknown scares people.

  • It is a "WOW!" movie.

  • Hope it's the Henson workshop making this sequel. Because if it's CGI I'm shooting myself.

  • thankyou thankyou thankyou, i havent seen this movie for sooooooooooo long, my all time favourite.................

  • i don't understand, the movie was made when i was a little girl, how can their be a sequel due out next year?

  • @TaraMoriah Cause it took the people at Hollywood that long to figure out that this movie was good enough to have a sequel.

However, im not optomistic. This movie is just shy of perfection, so the sequel has a lot to live up to.

  • amazing

  • Looking at the structure of the castle and all of the writings on the walls...I almost get the impression that there is sacred geometry involved.

  • @jetherwing of course there is.

  • the sequel will be much more brutal with occult symbolisms (as if this version wasnt bad enough for it lol!)

    Thanks for posting this!

  • This movie didnt need a sequel. Is nothing sacred?

  • In the Sequel out next year a piece of shard from the Crystal goes missing again, stolen from a Gelfling outcast a girl made of fire......what now more Sketsis?

  • Ascension.

Through the triangle within the circle.

So much symbolism in this....it's ridiculous.

  • Ascension, yes. Your comment was very insightful.

Isn't it something we all need to do, in the end, anyway? :)

  • There is nothing symbolic about circles & triangles-they are used as they are simple shapes, same with the swastika.

  • @jrcasselman that's funny and highly ignorant. But that's okay.

  • this was one of my favorite movies growing up. though, the guys at the end always confused me. 8 or 9 ancient guys are merged into superbeings. then they leave, saying: thanks for the help, now we leave you to your own devices as we go to the solar eclipse. have fun! sounds sort of irresponsible to me.

:) but makes a great movie.

  • GRACIAS

  • Now thats a movie! :-D

  • Man....that's the end? Not even an end kiss? Not even a wedding? damn...

  • Not all movies have to end in an kiss or a wedding.

  • lol...I know, I just wish there was some kind of conclusion other than..."its over"

  • I understand.

  • C3PO? lol

  • I guess Jim Henson is a titilator...or however its spelled.

  • titilator: and that is?

  • lol. It's a silly word, to be titulated is to be lead on or teased, messed with.

  • Hey! How say you subscribe to me! I'll subscribe to you!

  • Okay, but don't subscribe to this one, subscribe to my mildly successful one: HyperFoxxProductions

I've actually got good stuff on there. lol

  • She just came back to life... give her a couple of days.

  • thankyou thankyou, I love this film, my head is perpetually in a fantasy world, this reality of ours stinks.

  • Jim Henson is still one of the best puppeteers ever. This movie was great. While it did seem a little short, I enjoyed it very much. It is a great example of the fantasy genre, along with The Lord of the Rings.

  • Thanks bethanerd. Really enjoyed that. I love the noise the mystics make when they all chant together. What a great film. Too scary for kids i think lol.

  • when i saw this miovie as a child it wasnt scary it was funny then intrestind then loss of intrest at the end

  • Thanks so much for uploading this wonderful film from our childhood! Truly brings back good memories :)

LOL and I had no idea Augra was a man.

  • I have never seen this movie again. But my friends talked about it the other day, and i was left out of the conversation. so naturally i came to youtube to the see it! Thanks for the post!

  • "she is part of you, as we are all part of each other"

that is true, we are all connected.

i wish that everyone in the world knew that.

  • I am so glad you have this video. I had it until someone stole it from me.

  • I love it, finished ot on youtube today, hope the sequel comes out in 2011, before the End of THE EARTH... i hope not.

  • hey! the end, the beginning, same thing.

    ;)

  • @AwsomeBrett You mean the Great conjunction? LOL.

  • Just finished the whole movie on youtube today. Great movie, but if their is going to be a nother one, what would it be about?

  • idk.. Probably just a remake, to throw a random guess out there. I mean, they seem to be remaking everything, so why not Dark Crystal? XD

On that not, it could be a lot better. With like, facial expressions. That would be nice XP (Or it could be a lot worse. Which is unfortunately most likely. But who knows? *shrug*)

  • Well i'm now officially freaked out lol

  • btw, cant wait for the sequel

  • Don't believe it will be out until 2011...

  • great movie

  • This really brings me back. And the music is gorgeous. ^.^

  • OMG!! I loved this movie when i was a kid. I was a bit scared by it then, but still enjoyed it. I finally found it again thank you so much for posting it! :D

  • you are welcome! :}

  • @bethanerd Too right. How many Oscars would this have got now if made this way today. The executives at the original screening walked out after it finished nearly doing in Jim Henson after all the work he'd put into it. I heard this from and animator friend of mine in Norfolk England who new a guy that worked on some of the animatronic effects in this film. They wouldn't walk out now that's for bloody sure.

  • Greatest film i've seen this year. Really this movie totally blew my mind. This is the kind of american movies i want to see :) Thank you for sharing! :D

  • Wow, haven't seen this film since when it was released. I was 12 then. I think I understand it better now. Great stuff. thanks for posting:) I didN¨t get nightmares from watching it, and me and my sister saw it two or three times. Nothing beats this movie on the big screen in analogue. Those were the days...

  • welcome :]

  • Creepy, just creepy... luckily I'm an adult, had I watched this as a child, I would have gotten nightmares for weeks.

  • lol

I watched this as a child, I still have the movie on vhs, though I havn't seen it in years. The Skeksis were a little creepy at first but other than that it didn't bother me much. I was listing to Return To Oz and the mention of the Skeksis got me interested in watching this again. So here I am.

    I want to be a Gelfling, :(.

  • @iasfanclub LOL I still have it on VHS to, need to get it on DVD :)

  • .........and finally nothing is Kabalistically inferred.

  • hermeticism is what this movie is based on

  • <33333

  • 'what was sundered and undone shall behold the two made one'. See, it always takes a one eyed, drunk, crazy woman to talk sense at the end. The Dark Crystal taught me alot of things when i was younger :D

  • i remeber this movie when i was young i saw it but thought it was a dream cuase i could never find teh movie agian XD i'm 15 now and just found it agian through a episode of robot chicken man XDDDD it had some of teh characters i reconized and i was liek OH MY GOD O_O XDDD

  • robot chicken helped out alot!!

  • haha ive totally done that!! its cool when u find out that it in fact was real!

  • excellent movie, thanks for uploading. :-)

  • you are welcome!!

  • I remember as a kid wanting to see this movie so bad finally got the chance.

  • I alwaysed watched this movie when i was little. I had alwaysed loved it.

  • I rented this for my young girls to watch with me. This movie is a thread in the life of my girls and I. We love this movie, and quote lines in our daily lives. It is spiritual and loving - that is what I wanted my children to take from this movie. PS- my girls are in their 20's now and still love this movie!

  • This film is the pinnacle of Jim Henson's art. This final scene of the film is miraculous, it is like some fantastical painting in motion ... a masterpiece. Such moving & incredible images, such marvelous cinematography & sets! Trevor Jones's score is a masterpiece as well (listen to those melodies & orchestrations!). This movie is a miracle.

  • i watched this movie when i was wee lad and yes some parts where scary but goodness gracious the movie wasn't all that scary as a whole..i am in total agreement with the last persons comment this movie was beyond spectacular for it's time. jim henson was amazing at what he did truely amazing!!!

  • Scariest movie of my life.

  • awesome movie has so much depth to it!

  • This movie is a lot better than many of the new fantasy movies. it has deepnes in it and it is good to see a female characther taking most of the action than the chosen one itself. Definetly a great movie. And the pupetts are gorgeous and scary too.

  • This movie was so good for its time. I can see where most recent fantasy films get alot of there ideas.Like lotr, indy 4, harry potter, eragon, etc. etc.

  • No actaully I'm pretty sure most of those movies came from books sunshine.

  • spicychicken124 is right.. most of those movies came from books.

This movie came from the mind of a genius. =D

  • Kinda reminds me of the ending of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

  • to paraphrase Farenheit 451

the measure of a person's life is how many people are sad when they die.

Jim Henson's death make a me so sad.

  • My grandfather wasn't rich or famous, but when he died, the mourners filled a large church! RIP, Pop...

  • this kinda movies scare the hell out of me becuz, it's nothing like ours!

    yust creepy

  • I wonder if thats what real aliens look like

  • I guess we'll never know. ;)

  • LMAO!!!

  • Wonderful to watch this again.

Although... the fusion of the urRu and the Skeksis scare the hell out of me.

  • I saw it for the first time and it had Jim Henson written all over it. God bless you J.H.

  • Thank you so much for having this here. For 90 minutes, I was a child again. This movie and Labyrinth both do that. It is incredible what movie makers were able to do without the use of computers. When Jim Henson died, this world lost one of the greatest entertainment talents ever to live. I'm just glad that I was fortunate enough to be a child when he did his best work. :D

  • thank you for uploading this. Brings back memories.

  • welcome!! :]

  • You now, this movie inspired me to look up Legends, the one with Tom Cruise about the unicorn. : D

  • Whoop Whoop!!! Better this time around to watch it as an adult, I can appreciate the time and effort put into the movie. No worries here about sleeping in the dark, this time around it's not so scary...lol. I've been chicken for many years to rent the movie. Thank You!!!! for the upload. : D

  • you are very welcome!!! :]

  • @bethanerd thank you so much you made me feel like a kid again :)

  • this is a beautiful movie thank you bethanerd for uploading so we can enjoy it :>

  • you are welcome!

  • now this is wut a movie should be like!

  • thanks for uploading this. I really wanted to see this movie after seeing the hillarious parody robot chicken. I can't wait for "The Power of the Dark Crystal" to be released in 2011. The conceptual art looks stunning.

  • you're welcome! :] i cant wait either!

  • "Hold her to you; she is part of you, as we all are part of eachother."

That's one of my favorite lines of all-time.

  • Thanks Beth. This has always been a favorite flick for me, and I just watched this with my 6 yr old daughter. She enjoyed just as much as I did when I was her age. Thanks again!

  • you are very welcome :]

  • Thank you have not seen this since I was 8 years old

  • you are welcome :]

  • This has been a good chunck of my life spent well.

  • haha

  • Thank you bethanerd.

  • anyone remember PageMaster?

  • heck yes i do!

  • This is one of my absolute favorite films ever, ever since first seeing it as a young girl. I recently got the book "The World of the Dark Crystal" as well as the original Marvel comic based on the film from when it first was released in 1982. Does ANYONE know for sure when the sequel will be made? And be released?

  • there is a sequel in planning called the power of the dark crystal or something like that, its being a mix of cgi and puppets

and it says that it's coming out 2011 but there hasn't been anything else but that

  • it comes out in 2012

  • I remembered watching this movie when I was 9...to me that was the most awesome movie I have ever seen in my life then

  • Thanks for posting this, it brought back so many memories from my childhood :D

  • you are welcome! it does me too!

  • two thumbs up b^^d

  • 0:17 who plays as the guy who speaks to Jen?

  • I saw this movie in the theatre when I was a kid. I hadn't been so impressed with a movie! I memorised every scene and told my friend Laura all about it for a week on our way to school on the bus. I seriously thought Jen & Kira were real people! LOL I remember asking my older siblings who played them. They looked at me and asked, "You thought those were REAL people!?!?" I honestly did. I thought the other characters were puppets but those two were real. They laughed at me for weeks!

  • lol i admit i thought the same thing! hahaha

  • For some reason, I don't know why, this movie reminds me of the game Zelda.

  • I was watching this and thinking "Someone could make a really convincing Link To The Past movie using the audio and visuals from this movie."

  • this IS a truly special movie. Im a mom now, and it kinda worries me to watch this with my kids (ages 13&9) but i know i watched this when i i was like 6 n it was intense, but the intensity is what stuck with me for over 25yrs, im 31 now! this movie n the Last Unicorn are the epitome of my childhood in cinemagraphic form! i get the chills and tear up with every blessed memory of my childhood's best achieved fantasies!!!

  • I cannot believe someone else remembers The Last Unicorn! My sister use to watch that movie constantly! I ask friends during nostalgic conversations if they remember this, Return to Oz, Little Nemo Dream Master, and The Last Unicorn, and I always get a "No, never heard of those movies." This movie use to disturb but intrigue me. For a long time I thought the images from this movie were all just nightmares I had when I was young lol. Found out at the age of 15 that they really existed!

  • Have you ever seen the movie Flight of Dragons?

  • holy shit! yeah I do! honestly I could not remember the name of that dragon movie with the scientist at the end screaming rules of science, and the bad sorcerer guy with the dragons coming out of his back. I couldn't remember the name until you said that, but yes I remember Flight of Dragons.

  • no i have not!

  • I remember little nemo and return to oz. used to watch those films all the time as a kid along with this one

  • yeah, this was a favorite as a kid, watched it over & over. just watched it with my kids for the first time..jim henson-what an amazing artist!

  • Beautiful movie, too bad they don't make movies like this anymore =,(

  • ugh i know!!! the new stuff is good;;but will never be legendary like stuff like this.ha

  • Thank you! It's the first time I watch it!!! What a masterpiece!

  • Such a deep film...wow, like the 7 Elohim...

  • Thanks for uploading this I haven't seen it for years!

  • welcome :]

  • Brilliant, BRILLIANT movie!

  • diddo!
