  • I feel so proud being Russian. Even though it is a mere coincidence. We could have been born into any other nationality!

  • great novel. and the 2003 movie was very nice. too bad myshkin missed out on aglaya. but he was after all the ________.

  • Dostoevsky is just amazing, I can't believe anyone could write like that.... and how lucky I am to read it ! :)

  • I feel so bad, because almost all comments are in english, not that many russians really read Dostoevskiy....dont think i am russian, just writing english so all understand....Dostoevskiy is the best writer in the world, and Idiot it is his best book !

  • Dostoevsky is pure genius (a pity he suffered from this dislike for Polish people, but no earhly man is perfect) and thanks to God, we have Bortko, Mironov and other great actors

  • "Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a fool so that he may become wise."

  • @mrechcoes

The thing about Mishikin, is that he has very keen understanding about people, but is struggling with the concept of love, because he wants to understand it, instead of feeling it. That, in my opinion, makes him an idiot. Love means sometimes respecting your limits and accept that you have to walk away and let go. He doesn't. Runs into the same problem all the time. Hence, while he means well, he is ultimately misguided.

  • @vdizhoor Disagreed. He feels love, he is very sensitive and he feels pain, fears, jealousy of those in love. This is scary/ Love destroys, and he hopes it does not, he hopes it saves. Alas, reality is brutal and we hurt those we love way too often. He is an Idiot because he an idealist. He cannot accept cruelty of our existence. It drives him into insanity.

  • Great song, nice video. Cried when I finished the book. Ah!

  • me too....

  • theres no difference between you and me idiot

  • i love the idiot and

     mironov!

  • Great play, I found the DVDs at the russian store, the beast play after Dostoevsky i ever saw. I could not find it on internet with subtitles :(.

    Mironov is a great actor

  • I am polish and The Idiot is the best book ;movie I've ever seen.Dostoyevsky is a master of whom russian people should be proud forever.

  • totally agree. best book ever

  • excellent video!

  • I still love this video!

  • Polonez "Chij i co"

  • It is not on emule?

  • What is name of song?

  • New contemporary version of notes from the underground on youtube for free: v=SBmdCFS2cOg

Find all parts via my channel...

  • THANK YOU!

  • What's the name of this song? Want to see if I can look it up for an english translation.

  • I'm sorry, i'm just curious. I don't speak a word of Russian, but I love this video. Did you put it together, or was it something made with the movie? The actor who played Myshkin...is that from one of his other movies, or an interview he did on "The Idiot"? Just wondering... Excellent video! Wish I could understand the words, but I feel the spirit.

  • its a compilation from movie scenes and rehearsal to Idiot, actors name is E. Mironov, he is an awesome actor!

  • 19 century was great:Strindberg,Dostoyewski,Nietzsche and englishfrenchamerican crap.20 century was just crap.

  • LOVE dostovesky and strindberg...they're such brilliant souls! I will have to read Nietzsche soon. I don't think all the 20 century is crap...a lot awesome stuff, but i see your point...towards the end of it and in the 21st, literture is in a coma, and people don't even realize care! WRITE, PEOPLE, PLEASE START SPEAKing with something to to actually say!

  • sorry Kafka was great too

  • now i did read him when I was little and thought him interesting, but I couldn't quite understand altogether. I'll read him again soon, and i'm sure my view will be different.

  • we haven't talked in a long time. I do thank you for all those videos. BTW, I discovered Kafka last fall and he's incredible! Him and Dostoevsky, though very different, have both hooked me by the heart. Hook line and sinker!

  • Is there an English version of this film?

  • You'll never get a decent English version of a Dostoyevsky work. Download some subtitles and import a DVD.

  • To note that Dostoevsky discussed the idea of the overman in crime and punishement and influenced Nietzsche to elaborate it in depth..the first gave it dramatic social dimension while the latter consider it the upcoming of the flux...

  • It'a a wonderful song though i understand nothing of what it says...i'm very fond of Russian culture...and a big fan of Nikita Mikhalkov...can anyone tell me where i can download this song and what's called?

  • Dostoevsky was certainly great, when i was youg i read notes from underground and the idiot and enjoyed them throughly! I read Crime and punishment is one of the most depressing books I have ever read!!

  • He's a great actor. If Tarkovsky was making films today, he would cast Mironov;)

PS: Plato was nowhere near Dostoyevsky. Dialogues are ok, but to me he made Socrates talk too "Platonic" and "City" is just ridiculous.

  • I guess each person has a right to their own opinion. To me, the dialogues of Plato are still unsurpassed in beauty and truth. They are ideal cases similiar to the philosophy of Nietzsche...which takes the opposite, individualistic view. Platonic philosophy gives to man the highest philosophy of the "community spirit". I think Plato must grow on you...at first I didn't like him. But, after feeling hopeless and about ready to commit suicide, both Dostoevsky and Plato gave me true hope.

  • i rented the 8 vhs of the second version, read the book... the movies was so close to the book, is the best close adaption i ever seem, but i was told the original "The idiot " movie the soviet era, is by far a masterpiece, is must see... talking about a human dignity .. lord.. must watch ! If soembody has the pre-soviet version, download it , please. thank you .

  • I can give your internet address where you can download old film, but it's in Russian.

  • Super,thx

  • i love this book and i'd like to know what is the song about;) but my russian is really poor:( could anyone post a link to the song's lyrics - english or polish translation or at least just in russian (i'll try to translate it myself then ;) )?

  • Come on let's dig up snow and let's uncover a dream

you told:"you know, it lives there"

let's bring it home and let's leave it with us till spring

And from the balcony we'll let it go - let it fly

the bell in your hair sounds salty sharp

    the bell in your hair...

so much for my poor Russian and online babelfish translator

  • rosyjski tekst: wpisz w google "Чиж и Ко Полонез" to znajdziesz

  • Dostoevsky is fantastic and the series creators did a good job

  • Uh, could someone please tell what is this about? One fo Dostoevskij's book? wich one? *_*""

  • Clair145, yes it is Dostoevsky's book "Idiot".

  • I love "The Idiot" box set. Very well done. Can anyone recommend me some other films starring this actor?

  • HE is so talented!!! All of HIS works are outstanding.

  • Evgeniy is genius. He is the best russian actor today.

  • I saw this film Idiot 2 weeks ago, because of this video. (It was very good!)That actor is sweet.I wish the character were a real person!

  • Oooo, I see the love of my life is gathering American fans! Not surprising in the least. Victoria, the character IS a real person, and that person is the actor who plays him! He's a little less perfect, but damn close as real people go. I have most of his movies available for download, but they don't have English subtitles. FYI, he's in an American movie called "In Transit" that should be out soon.

  • He is FANTASTIC! You have chosen very well for the love of your life:) I watch everything I can find with him in it. Some of the films I don't even like but I still watch just to see his sweet face and hear that voice. His eyes are so expressive.

  • Dostoyevski is so talented. And nobody on earth can play Prince Myshkin better than Yevgeni Mironov! A calender never have been played this professionally:))

  • Yes, I agree. Dostoevsky is one of the greatest ever. I rank him alongside of Plato and Nietzche (somewhere between those two polar personalities).

  • I'm agree too.

  • Nietzsche is overrated.

  • O4en krasiwaja pesnja.

  • beautiful song bro,I recognize the actor who weard a PT inthe film <behind the enemyline>

    :)

  • thanks for sending.... but is this a song or promotion of a movie..? anyway it sounds quite nice

  • I haven't seen the movie, but read the book long ago. It was great fun remembering it through the clips here! Good job!

  • Thanks for sharing this video.

  • hey was that Churck Norris on the train near the beginning? :)

  • Chuck was of course counted to the infinity (and did it twice) but we can only grieved to think he isn't present in this vidoe, dude.

  • Dostoyevsky was a genius to write such works.

  • cool! I can understand some of what he is saying.

  • Nice

  • I prefer Idiot -2003 to Idiot 1958, film almost brilliant except for the soundtrack. As for me - I don't care about Korneluk at all (since I was kid in 198*) , and in this film music sometimes completely out of shape.

  • For sure Evgenii Mironov is a great actor.

  • Horoshoie video kak i proshloie kotoroie ti mne poslal. Horoshaya rabota, v nashe vremia pochemu to ludi zabivaiut shto takim velikym ludiam kak Dostoievskie toje nado davati doljnoye, i vozmojno ieto daje bolshe zaslujeno ietimi ludmi chem skajem na primer "ne zabivaiemaia" jizn Sashi Belogo.

  • ochen kreativno... otlichnyi montaj!

  • Ah, the great Dostoevsky. Aglaja Ivanovna, Knyaz Myshkin....great book, a sad one.
