Honestly, those aren't even close to the truly high-quality lights which are out there. Those big, standard-issue, police flashlights are actually inexpensive. They have to be. Otherwise, they'd put too much strain on the city budget to issue them to the police officers. And, the rechargeable ones many police officers have also represent old technology. They're pretty inexpensive to.
I don't want to seem to promote an outside forum on youtube. Please check your PM inbox.
Most of them don't. It's mainly Maglites and a few cheaper models. The better quality flashlights don't have adjustable beams. That's because they don't need them to be adjustable. Nice, smooth, beam with no dark circles or artifacts.
I've got the 3watt version. It's actually a re-bagded Nuwai model. Energizer now has their own version of this light. (Silver, rounded edges making the light less sharp at the head, no clip, clicky tailcap switch instead of momentary. Sold at Target.)
My ROV version is very nice. Tailcap boot rotates 360-degrees in place. Not a major issue. But yeah, beam isn't really adjustable.
Have the same one, but no sheath with it. Love it with one exception, i hate the switch.
BTW they also make the Remington flashlights which look pretty good (not a Fenix, but....). I cannot get either Rayovac or Remington in my city anywhere, not even Wally world.
I'm wondering how these compare to Pelicans new 2360 LED 2AA. Suppose to be 100 lumens for 2 hours and cost around $25-$30, but I can't find any real world reviews.
I have both the 1W and 3W. I believe they updated the 3W to textured reflectors and Rebel emitters, but the 1W is still luxeon if I am not mistaken. My 3W was the older Luxeon model so I put a SSC P4 in it and output improved, as well as tint. These lights make good hosts for SSC P4 emitters if you like super clean beams and nice white tint, as compared to the original Luxeon emitter they are born with.
hi i watch all your vids man ,great vids ,ive got the same flashlight but its branded terralux, lightstar 220 ,and its 220 lumens on high and 100 lumens on low great light.keep up the great vids man love em.
awesome to find you have a review on this, i got one for christmas from my sister, and i seatched to see if u had one, cool i like it a lot, what a high value item.
This is actually a Terralux flashlight, rebranded to Rayovac. They're quite nice for what they cost.
I just got the new model, it's a Terralux TLF-3C2AAEX with CREE Q4 LED.
It is rated at 220 lumens on high (1,5 hours) and 100 lumens on low (6 hours). Have been using it for a couple of days, and it can light up my 30 yard backyard very nicely.
I don't like the CR123 batteries, just like you, and prefer the AA types, because they're cheap and easy to find.
Compared to my 2D Maglite with LED, it has about the same LED brightness, but the throw is different. The Maglite throws a very concentric beam, at high distances. The Terralux on the other hand, throws at a maximum of 35 yards of usable visibility, but lights up an area about 10 yards wide.
I got really curious about that Nitecore D10 I saw on your review, I'm amazed. The bad part is I live in Brazil and they do not exist around here, and importing them makes it very expensive due to taxes.
I just bought the same light today for $15 on clearance at walmart. Dude, I bought it because of this review and your review just doesn't do it justice. Not that it was bad, but the light in the video just doesn't compare with it in real life. I've never had an LED light and the second I turned this on I was like DAYUUMMM! Thanks for hooking me on to this light! It's amazing for the price
yeah the camera doesnt pick up as much light as the human eye, BTW this is a cheap LED light you woudl be AMAZED at what soem of the more expensive ones can do like the fenix lights...
Yea I was thinking about getting the nitecore d10 when I save up some. I live in Florida so these are GREAT for Hurricane use. Not that I want a hurricane to use one lol.
hey jeff, sweet vid, do you know of any tactical flashlights that are decently powerfull and have a perminant on/off like youd find on a standard maglite? potential as a kubaton would be a big plus.
There is a SWEET new flashlight out on the market that sells for $60...its called a nitecore D10, search google for a video by a guy names 4sevens, thats not the accoutn anme but he introduced himself as 4sevens...anyway its just such a nice light for the monye, I just ordered one and shoudl ahve a review on it within a week or so...if $60 is too much then take a look over at candlepowerforums for light experts for suggestions...
@cutlerylover I think it's the same, I have both and can't tell the difference btwn the mini on high power and the 3AA....the 3AA doesn't even have the additional options but I imagine there's a longer run time than the 2 AA, that's probably the main selling point (and it's like $5 cheaper)
Man, I was only buying MagLite LEDs, but then I decided to try a coast (the one I bought sucked, but I still got it), and then i ventured out with some Rayovac lights. They're NICE...I got the 2AA indestructible LED and the 3C indestructible LED...these are some nice lights to compete with maglite....the 2AA indestructible only has 2 modes but it's brighter than the mini maglite and lasts just a little shorter, and on low, it is brighter and lasts just as long....not bad lights at all i'd say
I just picked up a 3 watt river rock, with a 75 lumens luxeon led from target. Your right about the battery life, the 3 watt doesn't last nearly as long as a standard led flashlight and the 3watt also gets hot!. I primarily use a 9 led 3AAA cell flashlight when I'm working on my computer or in the basement, but the 3 watt is much brighter, gives a white light rather than a blueish light(from the cheap led's) and it also uses AA batteries, which is a huge plus in my book.
How shock resistant is it? Does it slip easily into a tool belt? I bought 2 mini-Maglites and they both failed within 5 months of purchase under normal use.
I just got this not too logn ago, I dont know how "shock" resistant it is, but beign that it does have a LED that wont fail on you, what woudl fail is the connection inside, I dont know how durable these are though...a MagLED would work fine even with a bit of abuse, I think its the incandescent bubls that are faling on you, not the light? Am I right? did you know there are a spare bulb under the spring in all maglites?
I've had both LED and incandescent MagLites, both types have had poor shock resistance. In one case the plastic lens of the LED came off and left the semiconductor exposed. The LED flashlights don't carry spare bulbs.
Oh ok, and your right, only the incandescent maglites have spare bulbs...even if the LED had spare LED's you woudl ahve to sotter on your new LED, lol, so it makes sense it doesn't come with any spares...
The surefires G2 as well as G3 are not much more expesnive as you said ,and much better lights, but I do not use lights that take CR123 bateries, I explain why in another flashlight video...otherwise I woudl already own one, lol..
I don't know if its water proof, probably more like watre resistant, I wouldn't dive with this one or submerce it on purpose, but if it gets wet like rained on I woudl think that was ok...
Actually I couldn't find them, I ended up with Energizers 15 minutes harger the one with the built in cooling fan, it tskes 4AA's...But tis workign ok, so I am happy...
Wal-Mart is kind of a 2 way street. They do carry everything close at hand, but they also get on your last nerve being on every street corner. Good review. Keep it up.
great video. good thinkin on the walmart idea. you're right, everyone has a walmart near them and i got one right next to me. haha im gunna buy that flashlight today
ive got the 3 watt version bat life is still really good it a great flashlight it accually used by the chinese police

You spoke about the holster not fitting on a belt?.
I think the horizontal mount was meant more like for a backpack strap.
You can remove the clip from a backpack, slide the holster in and put the clip back on. For hiking :D
