Don Johnson: The best thing to grace New York City since Babe Ruth came over from Boston
Side note:
Lets hear it for the time in America when it was not only legal, but totally cool as hell to smoke cigarettes on TV! I never smoked (...tobacco), but The Don almost convinced me to start because he looked like a sophisticated & sexy (no homo) hardass who was essentially saying: "You know what? F**k it" which, in itself was pretty much the theme of the entire 1980's & Reagan Administration
As "one of the kids of today"..i amtotally in love with song!! i loaded it on my i pod and i walk down the streets of new york with glen blasting in my ears.. and i cant help grabbing and spinning on a lightpole..TOTALLY CLASSIC!!
Not only is this song just so totally awesome beyond magical proportions but it comes with one of the coolest TV shows to ever be! Miami Vice was such an awesome series in the 80s! I remember when all the guys I knew in school would dress in Crockett's attire! Oh what a time it was back then! You would have to have lived in the 80's to really understand what it meant to live in that time. There was a magic feeling everywhere you went. It was a beautiful time to be alive. Long live the 80's! :-)
Living down town in the part of the city I have always wanted to be;, being happy right now with my life;...ya I guess I kind of belong to the city. I just don't have one of those Don Johnson suits...yet..he he!
ROCKY RADIO........... A classic indeed. Very strange thing in this world is people from Miami take a vacation to NYC and People from NYC take a vacation to Miami! HAHA it is true!
When I was a kid I used to watch Miami Vice on french TV, and I dreamt many times : the image of a cop walking alone.... Thirty years after, I'm sure I won't be a cop, but I'm still remembering these images and this music. A real good "souvenir". Thanks.
i use to sing with a heavy metal band... one night i told the guys i wanted to do this song.. they are all younger than me and when they heard this song they were not really into it.. i went ahead and jammed with another band one night and we jammed this song.. it was awesome!!!
Holy cow I bet people were wondering just when Miami Vice would come on and then get all anxious for it. I know I was even though I was born in 1985. You Belong To The City fuckin' ROCKS!!!!!
@Sporc this exact version is available on the Miami Vice soundtrack...don't know if its still out there somewhere....but the whole thing is most EXCELLENT!!!!
people have the delusion that the 60's was the great era for rok and roll but the 80's offered a great array of good music when i think back it probally was the best era for the wide array of great artist's, don't get me wrong the 60's and 70's still had lots of irraplaceable hits and bands.
This song is just so me ! I lived in NYC for my hole life and I moved out to NJ 2 years back and I cant stand it out here man ! And am so moving back when am 20 !
@HipHopRenaissance100 I think they did a cheap version of this song for Vice City. When the game is loading there is a song that sounds very familiar to this song. Its when they show the cars, boats, and other cut scenes in the beginning of the game.
The years between 1985 and 1989 were the most unforgettable times of my life. I was born in 1985 and lived through the end of the 80's. Great times were had by all.
@roosevelthighschool How do you remember it lol? I was born in 78 and only remember the 80's cause I was older. You were in diapers for that time lol.

Ah songs like this, baker street, the heat is on, and maneater , with the sax playing part of the songs reminde me of the night time, especialy if it sounds kind of muffled like its echoing in a basment or off the walls of a city, love this song, the rift remindes me of one movie off hbo my aunt taped for me with howard the duck, and the sax played in the background as it mentioned that howard the duck was up next on the list.
this is a cool song with or without the miami vice imagery wish the sax player got more credit for his work though he truly makes the song come alive.

The 80s might look dated to the kids of today. (60s did to me too as a kid)
But MIAMI VICE is iconic.
the tone, the editing, the look & feel of the show honestly changed the way stylized movies and TV shows were made FOREVER.
Example.. Michael Bay owes alot to miami vice.
