Is it possible to attach two ASUS GTX 570's (3 slots) in SLI and have a sound card as well? I haven't decided on an audio card. I'm actually not too sure which socket these usually take.
Vortez I have a question regarding the spacing on this motherboard. I am currently using a p67 sabertooth and EVGA GTX 580 SLI, I want to go tri sli. Will there be enough room for 3 massive cards + my creative labs fatility pro titanium sound card?
Got this board with a 2500K @ 4.7Ghz 1.355V cooled with a coolermaster Hyper 612PWM and 2 X 4GB Ripjaw @ 1866Mhz 9-9-9-32 1T 1.53V. Fully prime95/Intel burn test/3DMark stable. Note that turbo mode is enabled so the CPU do clock down to 4Ghz under extreme conditions (over 110W of power according to Coretemp). I could run it at full 4.7Ghz 100% of the time, but it would need more Vcore that I'm comfortable with. NO normal apps/games drain over 100W so I do get 4.7Ghz speed all the time anyway.
Just it has just arrived back in the UK (I am on holiday right now) and I am wondering If I am going to need to buy any additional cables when I build my own pc when I get back.
Specs:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 580
Intel i7 2600k
Z68 extreme4 gen3
Corsair Obsidian 650D (case)
Older dvd drive and hard drive (can't remember exact names, they are going to be taken out of my old pc)
@NevsterUK this is what I'm wondering. my current PC has a huge CPU cooler and push/pull 38mm fans. I am doubting any of that will clear that huge heatsink
Hey vortez...The full review is awesome...Will this mobo support the upcoming ivy bridge? with a bios update maybe? I'm building a new pc and i want to buy the i7 2600k or maybe i should wait to see what the new ivy bridge can do?
@JanPIPasion nice, i ordered this mobo + i5 2500k + sapphire radeon hd 6970 + 16 gb (4x4 ripjaws ddr3 pc12800 1600mhz kit (its not the ripjaws X, its just ripjaws)) + corsair ax850 psu + hitachi 750 gb 7200 rpm sata 3 32mb cache + xigmatek gaia cpu cooler + HAF X case. i am super excited and nervous too (worried about defective parts arriving in the mail).. first build xD. your build is pretty solid. i think everything will work great on that
do you know if asus and asrock like the same brand ? i just had order a asrock and seen where some ppl say asus/asrock i like asus and im new to asrock lol if you can help me thank you very much
How would I go about installing 2 sticks of 4 gig ram on this mobo? Do i leave gaps inbetween each stick? I fee like I did it wrong because I only have 5.92 usable gigs of ram on my Win 7 64 bit.
@VortezReviews i ordered this, but i read that there are a lot of BIOS problems. Is that true? Do you know what version is most stable? I also read that people have trouble with their keyboards getting into BIOS on initial boot.
@VortezReviews im on the same boat with antwkapa, il be gettin 2500k, 2 sapphire 6950, 8gig 1600 patriot viper extreme, G.Skill Phoenix EVO 115gb. and i am torn with this two boards asrock extreme4 gen3 and asus p8z68-v. dunno which to pick. help! TIA
@Verethan I wouldn't recommend having the CPU overclocked with such voltage for any regular amount of time but yeah that was the overclock that I reached - just to show potential. CPU temperatures were topping out at 65-70C
Hey Dave, great review. In your opinion, which is the better motherboard you have reviewed? The ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 or GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD3P? Thanks
I tried to update the BIOS with my three USB key with fat or fat32 format but they all do not work in the Instant Flash. Also, it can't boot in PXE server. after I inject the LAN driver to my boot image.
Buying this as soon I get a new case. Look amazing compared to the non Gen3. What was the difference? Just the visuals and general retweaking, or are there some significant improvements?
Extremely informing video review, loved it, think I'll buy Extreme3 or 4, the one thing you missed, or perhaps you skipped, was that the pci-e 16x lanes are wired at 16x, 8x and the last one only at 4x, so if you do run tri-sli or tripple crossfire they'll probably run at 4x4x4x, there's a marginal difference between that and 8x8x8x, just thought I'd mention it! Keep up the excellent work sir.
Great review Dave, I love what ASRock are doing lately. Just a note, I might be wrong but I think you can only utilise the PCI-E 3.0 if you have an ivy bridge processor as well as having a PCI-E 3.0 graphics card.

Good board, no issues for me, boots fast. Similar to the Asus P8Z68V Gen3. Z68XP-UD4 is a bit more 'enthusiast' (no UEFI, but better overclocker(?)).
Running with a M4 128GB, two Samsung F3, Xfire 6950 TOXIC, 2500K@4.4GHz, MUX120, and HyperX 12800C9 8GB, in a Carbide 500R.
Oh yeah, one issue, my main keyboard and mouse don't work in BIOS (Qpad 5K, Qpad MK-85).

1- Eyefinity Gaming with Crossfire.
2- 3D Max (80%modeling only), Photoshop, HD movie and Internet browsing, 4 of them running at the same time together.
Thanks
