  • The guy who wrote My Heart will Go on from Titanic (Will Jennings) translated the show and SCREWED it up!!!! It lost so much in the translation. I wish they'd get someone else to translate this show cause it's amazing in french.

  • Oh Quasimodo! Don't be low! My heart is out to you.

  • I don't like this translation. It could have been translated so much better: 'God of an unjust world', 'God that made an unjust world'...I'm sure that there's better ways of saying it than that.

  • I hate this translation.

  • This is in my opinion the best of the english version songs. It sounds like an actual song by itself, not just some translation that doesn't sound quite right like most of the others.

(I might also like this one because it's my fav song in french too, but the above argument still stands)

  • Quasimodo is huge!!!when he stands straight his super tall

  • Oh Garou has such an amazing voice...though i do prefer the french he really puts his whole soul into it...:') it made me cry...

  • Taht's just so beautiful, so tearing me apart.. We just feel how he does, and that's awful. poor Quasidmodo... :'(

Hey you know what? I was in love whith the Quasimodo from Disney when I was young :P

  • Hahahah I have to agree Disney really went kind of south with the story...oh well its still one of my favorites!

  • I actually liked the disney version alot. I liked the happy ending ^_^ but the original story is much better because it's so complex and has such awesome characters.

  • The english is terrible.

The French version makes this sound like a cat being strangled

  • @Shonkoi despite the fact it's sang by the same guy...?

  • @ihartrodatkins yes. I dont care who sings it, I stand by what I said

  • Oh the French is so much better...

  • i really can't stop listening to this....

  • The English translations that I can stomach, in order from best to worst:

God you made the world all wrong

    I'm a Priest

    Your Love will Kill Me

    Belle

The Birds They Put in Cages

You'll Have My Heart If You Will Swear

    Florence

Beyond that, everything's pretty much icky. =P The little songs especially were horrifying.

  • I agree completely. Did you hear the English version of Dechire? It made me cringe a bit...

  • I really like Moon, too :)

  • POTO song...i mean can you not see Erik relate to this? gets me every time i hear it

  • Oh yes, tht's why a friend sent me the link. The Kay!Part on the roof for example.. Although his deformation is in an other way, just on the face..

  • Does anyone know where you can get the sheet music for this?

  • I Love this song it is so sad. I LOVE GAROU! I cry everytime I hear this song. T_T

  • I know. I always keep an onion near me when I hear this so I have an exuse :*)

  • I just say Im watching old yeller.

  • I know, I do too. Garou's performance is so heartbreaking, but he's an amazing Quasimodo.

  • J'adore cette chanson. Elle est aussi sublime en français qu'en anglais. Garou était genial dans le role de quasimodo. Il a su jouer toute la sensibilité et la fragilté du bossu. Bravo Garou !

Et merci pour cette vidéo :)

  • can u plz provide the lyrics??

  • this is so sad. I haven't seen the musical so I don't know but from the synopsis it does sound like the musical is close to the book

  • It is! it's the closest rendetion of the book that i've come across; musical, movie, animated...it's the closest thing! they even take quotes straight out of the book and put it into some of the lyrics!!

  • I'd love to see it! Most renditions aren't faithful for various reasons, I've seen the disney one which as a disney movie alone I love (I treat it as a separte entity). And the 1939 one. They even keep Frollo as a priest on here

  • I could be wrong but didn't this musical originate in France? If so that could be largely why it's more faithful, part of their literature and culture

  • Yes, it was performed in Paris. And you can watch orginal version on youtube, it was posted by users Queenisgod and HugKem (with english subs - there are mistakes in translation, but if you don't speak French, they can be very useful)

  • Cool. I'll look it up. I'm from Canada so English is my second language. As I said I think Garow is French-Canadian. Thanks for this post

  • whoopsy, I meant French is my second language. hehe. And who is esmeralda in this video?

  • In the French one? Helene Segara

  • so this is is the french video dubbed with the english song

  • Garou is from Canada, you say? (runs off to Canada with flowers and heart-shaped box of chocolates)

  • yes, he's from Montreal I think.

  • Theres a 1977 version that followes the book EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!! They cut some stup but THEY GOT IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!! My Fave verion is still notre dame de paris though.

  • Notre dame de paris got it closer than disney though

  • true but thhe 1977 thig is closer than this is. But still ur right.

  • I like the 1956 version too

  • Well the only thing Disney has in common with the book is the fact that Esmeralda had a goat! :D

  • I like the way they made Quasimodo look. it had to be toned down a bit for kids. He was too cute though hahaha

  • this song makes me want to cry...english or french...

  • yeah it's so sad. Garou has an awesome voice! And he nails it. he's canadian, wohoo!
