  • I forgot the gaffa tape as well when I did my last recording^^

  • The angle doesn't look wide enough to be considered ORTF. Also the fact that they are set to omni keeps it from being ORTF as well. I've used closely spaced omnis before but only as part of a Jecklyn Disc. You can make one pretty easily. It sounds very surreal. For a 2 mic setup that close I recommend the Blumlein pattern (crossed figure of eights) That way way you'd pick up in the front as well as the rear.

  • @thepoorpeopleofparis A Jecklin Disc is only for Headphone-Recordings. For organ the best thing is either omnidirectional or a mix of omni and direct microphones

  • Does that stereo pair aim to the opposite direction of the stage? The recording is still very good.

  • @hcltw1963 The Organ pipes are in the back of the cathedral and the horn pipes are on either side of the altar. This made it very difficult to record it using cardioid capsules. These recordings were actually done by switching the capsules to omni in the ORTF set up. This helped pick up the trumpeter pipes behind the mics and gave more of the room space to the recording. Thanks for listening!

  • The Christ Church Cathedral Organ is my idea of the perfect American Classic organ. Eclectic, it can do any era of music with authority. An organ with well balanced divisions. A really well designed Aeolian-Skinner. Too bad the company is no longer in existence. It is to North America what Caville-Coll is to France.
