He got sent to prison for carrying the gun, not for shooting himself.
All he had to do was make a phone call. He could've had 10 armed guys to protect him.

He did more than just shoot himself
1. He was ilegally carrying a gun
2. He discharged a firearm in public putting nearby people in potential danger.
You are right, many carry guns but by shooting it in public he got caught. He had a Florida concealed liscense, he should have known exactly what he was doing wrong.
I do agree that 2yrs is too long
