The Forerunners weren't human, but they did make the Halo Array and the Ark. They created the Halo Array to destroy any living thing that could be a Flood host, essentially starving the Flood to death. After a long war with the Flood, they had no choice but to activate the Array, killing all sentient beings, including the Forerunners themselves. However, this is where the Ark comes in. The Ark is outside of the Halo Array's firing range, making it a safe place.

The Forerunners evacuated as many people to the Ark as possible before the firing, but somewhere along the line, they died off, leaving the Array to the Humans should it need to be activated again.

the forerunners had the same purpose we do to live to surive and yes they were us or atleast the closest race to us in that time period and the forerunners made halo and used halo when the rings are activated an automatic reset is hit and all races have been templated and are then mass produced and life begins again and thus all technological advancement must be recreated (and all because nuclear war i asume created the flood or some such)

lets just clear up some things for one arbiter didnt purposly leave john behind it was acually not purposfull but the portal shut on him and also the forunners are acually us basical humans if you to stupid to understand what i said it may not make sense but the unsc is the humans that were left behind when the other humans (the forrunners) left the galaxy and left some of their own behind with minimal technology

The newest Halo game in production is Halo: Reach. My guess is that you get to play as the other Spartans when they are fighting on Reach, or following the story of the book First Strike.

Onyx is a planet for Spartans in training. If you read the book Ghost of Onyx, you would know it was invaded by the Covenant.

@Harlot357 At the end of Halo Reach, where you see you characters helmet on the ground, broken, you can see a ship(maybe) that crashed(?) and a ship that just landed. That may be MC's ship. Thats after the Fall of Reach though. The Onyx events happened during the Halo event, and wasn't Onyx destroyed? Oh, and during the Onyx event, Dr. Halsey and the rest of the Spartan 2's and 3's are trapped withing the Sheild World. The only Spartan thats living is Maria. I know I am responding to an old vid.

Even when arbiter left he could have gone to onyx or whatever the place is he could team up or maybe arbiter leads the elites and wants to get revenge on chief and goes to kill him while all the ppl are elites so they could be the greatest race

yep the arbiter sure could have plan having the portal collapse to cut the ship in half, trapping master chief. Really though, that is ridiculous, it was very unlucky.

What happens is Master Chied's half-ridden ship is floating towards a black planet. The black planet's name is Onyx. And yes, there are other Spartans, not just John, or Master Chief. Their names are Fred, Kelly and Linda. They're all trapped on Onyx - insied a "fallout shelter" of sorts that's designed to protect its occupants in the event of the Halos being activated - but they're alive.

There are other spartans within a forerunner construct known as shield world, thats the "fallout shelter" he's referring to (If your confused read Ghost on Onyx"). But who knows what occupies that planet, for all we know it could be a planet with surviving forerunners on it. I hope they make a halo movie based on the fall of reach book, that would be awesome!!

dwho is john kelly fred and linda, they sound made up? i havnt read the books so im guessing thats where it is from. I think there should be a halo 4 tho because with all the spartans u say it should be them going for the only ship and searching for others an finding more flood hidden there- even tho i hate flood- and have some knew race of aliens with a long lost father, brother, moether etc. of the propthetes also it never showed gravemind actually dieing----- next comment
