Shaq and kobe in their primes are unstoppable...i dont think any big man little man tandem could take them down if there was ever a two on two league lol
how many easy buckets did shaq get because of kobe drawing attention to the perimeter. people have always sided with shaq and disclosed that it was the other way around; shad would free the perimeter. all i ever saw was kobe demanding double teams 90% of the time and giving shaq 3 to 5 easy buckets per game. kobe was the man and he couldn't handle it.
look how fast Kobe was back then. obviously he couldnt shoot like he can now but u can just tell he can do w/e he wants. hes as good as MJ and in my opion better. more skilled. better ball handler, shooter (now), footwork, tough shot maker. MJ is a better driver, post player, more ups, and a better defender. so i aint hatin im tellin it how i see it. theirs somethin about Kobe, hes just the best.
@Kobeownzu81 actually i take that back jordan and pippen were better but it was amazing how kobe and shaq seemed to equally contribute huge numbers to help the team win
@kanguesso kobe still has more records then lebron for exmaple youngest to start ever iin a all start game at 19, longest 40 point game streak 9 times, second behind to average 50+ in 4 straight games, he has the second most poiints at 81, has the most points as a LAKERS, most points scored at MSG Lebron is good player but kobe just has more records and what seperates lebron from kobe is that by that kobe was lebrons age he had 3 rings and also kobe has always had a jumpshot
who cares about records. Lebron can have all the records he wants and everyone still knows he will never be as skilled as kobe. Lebron is good, but he ain't MJ or Kobe good. People aren't stupid they know lebron can dunk, but they appreciate kobe's skill more, as they did MJ. Lebron is the next Dominique. One-dimensional and EXPOSED in the playoffs. Highlight reel nonetheless.
kobe had youth, athleticism and explosiveness on his side back then. Even that kobe was not as athletic, fast or explosive than MJ or LBJ. Playing with a prime shaq is so much easier for everybody. All you had to do was dump the ball down low and you had an automatic assist. I don't how kobe didn't average a Triple double for every year he played with a prime shaq.
It's something called the triangle. Sure he had shaq, but shaq got good numbers because of the spacing of the triangle. so did kobe, pippen, and MJ. Not to mention the blazers, kings, wolves, and spurs were stacked back then so it basically evened out. He had good assist numbers back then, but when was the last time a player averaged more than 8 assists for PJ? right now, gasol is healthy because of kobe. having the easiest time in the post and rarely sees double teams.
@LmOnAy Of course Gasol is healthy because of Kobe. He doesn't get to take many shots to begin with. He sits there on the low post and doesn't see the ball that often. It's only logical for teams not to double team him. Would you double team a player who rarely touches the ball? Gasol complained about that a few weeks ago. In 9 quarters of games on the road, kobe had taken 67 shots alone. And they were losing. 67 shots? NO ONE with that kind of talent around him should take that many shots.
do you watch all laker games? For a stretch the laker big men were turning over the ball left and right with no sense of aggression whatsoever. I agree with kobe shooting a lot, but the pau gasol doesn't shoot a lot even when he's most aggressive.
@LmOnAy I watch most of the laker games. I am not gonna sit here and say i watch them ALL. But, you can't argue with NUMBERS all the time. The Lakers are like 33-4 when Gasol scores at least 20-25 points and grabs 13 rebounds. However, the Lakers' record when ALL MIGHTY kobe goes 40 and up is not so impressive. Wanna know why? because when he goes for 40 or more, that means he's JACKING IT UP BIG TIME and the other guys are just bystanders. It takes them out of rhythm and they often lose.
of course they lose if kobe has to go for 40 because they are going back to '06 ball. Gasol, Bynum, and Odom are inconsistant at times and kobe has to try to bail them out. i'm not saying kobe doesn't overshoot at all, i'm just saying that gasol and odom goes back to their "soft" ways at times.
@LmOnAy You're right, Gasol does have his softness issues at times and Odom up until recently was known as Mr. inconsistent. However, Kobe needs to sometimes even force feed Gasol because when he goes for 20 and up, they win big time. Just like the other day against the Suns in game 2 gasol went for 29 and 10 and they obliterated the Suns again. The bottom line is kobe has TOO GOOD of a team around him for him to even need to score more than 25 in any given night.
@kanguesso That record might also have something 2 do w/ the fact that the Lakers arent getting much production out of anybody else. a la Game 5 2010 Finals: Kobe facilitates in the 1st half and the Lakers end up going down by double-digits. Kobe then explodes for 19 in the 3rd quarter to keep the Lakers competitive. Its just ridiculous how people try 2 find ONE stat and generalize it to one particular scenario. MULTIPLE FACTORS/POSSIBLITIES MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN OBSERVING #'S.
@moneymarc03 Yes i agree with you 100%. Multiple factors do have to be taken into consideration when analyzing stats and numbers. People will eventually hand all the credit to Kobe for winning the 2010 championships without realizing that the most consistent player in the finals was Pau Gasol. He literally took Garnett out of the Series with his aggressive play. You can actually make a strong case that Gasol could and should have been awarded finals MVP.
@kanguesso People are always looking 2 go against the grain. Pau Gasol played an excellent series, but the only reason people are trying 2 discredit Kobe is because he shot the ball poorly in Game 7. KG destroyed Pau in Games 3&5. When Kobe was literally unconscious making everything in Game 5, Pau was nowhere to be found. The Celtics D wasnt designed to stop Pau. It was to stop Kobe. So a lot of Pau's easy buckets came as a result of focusing on Kobe.
@moneymarc03 Dude i don't think you were watching the same series. It's not just about game 7. Kobe shot a dismal 24% from the field in game 7 and a horrible 34% in the whole series. Sure, he carried his team mates in game 5 but he was carried in game 3 and game 7. Watch those series again. Pau Gasol destroyed Garnett in game 1, 2, 3 and 7 with rebounds alone. Gasol was the best player and most consistent player in the ENTIRE POST SEASON, Not just in the finals.
@kanguesso Dude where the hell did u get those stats from? Kobe didnt shoot 34% in that series! He shot 40.5%. Huge difference. Why cant people just understand that Game 7 was a team win? Nobody really had a good individual game except Ron Artest. Kobe shot 25%, Pau shot 37%, Pierce shot 33%, etc. It was a scrappy game. Pau-A BIG MAN-shooting 37% is just as bad as Kobe-A PERIMETER PLAYER-shooting 25%. And Kobe grabbing 15 boards as a SG is just as good as Pau grabbing 18 as a PF.
@moneymarc03 Yeah the 34% was an overstatement on my part. But it wasn't just game 7 that was a team win. The whole series was a team effort. Every time the lakers Pounded the Celtics on the boards they won.
1: Kobe. Broke down Celtics D. Got buckets for Lakers when they needed them. Established pace. Played smothering D. Pau was great as well getting a near triple double.
2: Ray Allen. He set a record 4 3's in a Finals game.
3. Derek Fisher. He saved the day with his clutch play when Kobe shot horribly from the field & KG was having his way w/ Pau.
4. Shrek & Donkey lol. They destroyed our bigs. Kobe made 6 3's to keep us in the game. We just couldnt get stops.
@kanguesso Game 5: Paul Pierce. He made Ron Artest his bitch in this game. In this game Kobe scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter just to keep the game close. The rest of the team left Kobe out there alone that game.
6: Kobe. He set the pace from the jumpstart. He was facilitating. Breaking down the Celtics D (he drew all the defensive attention). Scoring when we needed buckets. And playing great D while shooting 47%.
@kanguesso Game 7: Ron Artest. All in all it was a team win because nobody had a pretty game. But Ron Ron had the biggest impact. Shut down Paul Pierce. Made huge shots. Played extremely hard. Kobe/Pau grabbed a combined 33 rebounds despite shooting 12/40. Kobe scored 10 pts. in the 4th quarter. D Fish made a big shot @ the end. It was a team win.
Pau Gasol was huge in this series but w/o Kobe we wouldnt have a guard to bail us out of tough situations and break down the Celtics aggressive D.
@kanguesso Maybe you should watch the entire playoffs again because Kobe destroyed everyone (except maybe the thunder, but he was hurt). Pau was great as well. Kobe averaged 29.2 ppg (on 46% shooting), 6 rpg, and 5.5 apg he was simply amazing. Pau averaged 19.6 ppg, 11.1rpg, and 3.5apg also very good for a power forward. If you're saying Kobe wasn't consistent there must be something wrong with your memory.
@nitotech See, what do i always say? I knew most laker fans would hand the entire playoff run to kobe as if he was the sole reason the lakers won the tittle. Pau took it to Garnett who punk'd him in '08 and Artest took Pierce out who punk'd the lakers in '08 and how valuable was fisher to lakers? Do you know what kobe's Record is in game 7s or elimination games? i'll give you a hint, It's HORRIBLE for a so called Greatest Ever like the kobe fanatics like to imagine he is.
@kanguesso Kobe completely took ray allen out by simply making him defned him and tire him out. It was i think because of Kobe that ray allen shot just horribly in the series. His legs were simply tired.
well of course shaq is better than bynum dumbass but bynum is still a decent center and yeah ok lets have put on more weight so he can look like shaq??? dumbass hes fine the way he is and fuck kobe only players i like on the lakers, bynum n Artest!
I wish Kobe wouldn't have had Shaq on his team in 02-03...He would have put up INSANE numbers(not that his numbers weren't already crazy). He was in his physical prime, his shot was effortless, and he was working on his game maybe the most of his career
I remember these games....Kobe would run the entire offense and average 6 assists and 6 rebounds and nearly 30 pts a game and somehow haters would say he couldnt do it without Shaq, or he was just a sidekick...just look at Shaq fat and slow ....
If he looked a little slower, it had nothing to do with him being "past his prime" but more to do with the fact that he's played 2 seasons and 2 summers with no rest. Don't forget, Jordan in his 30's was much more polished than Jordan in his 20's. I think Kobe's best years have yet to come.
indeed his technique got better, he is a better decision maker now too and of course with 30 years you can't run or jump like in the early and mid 20's^^
well hes gettin older and its natural 4 an athlete but dont sleep on him if ur a tru fan>> i guarantee he will surprise all of us!!! juz sit back relax and enjoy take my word
plus do u forget he played in over 200 games str8 without any rest or surgury on his fracture shooting finger!! thats called tru warrior unlike those who miss 6 games because they hurt their non shooting hand!! (lebronze)
I think the guy who first wrote that Kobe's past his prime meant that Kobe's past his ATHLETIC prime, and that's true. However, if we talk about the GAME PRIME, Kobe still can get EVEN BETTER with some time. 2002-2003 2003-2004 - ATHLETIC PRIME, but who knows when his game prime will be?
so just because kobe can't dunk as good like in 03 or 07 he is passed his prime? he's been in his prime since 03 and now he's added even more post moves. He is even better now.
Layups are too easy, when things get easy as Walton said, he goes further and further from the basket ;) It probably has something to do with why the Lakers take it easy on teams some times like the Rockets in the playoffs. It's tough playing against people who can't challenge you. A lack of challenge can make people retire, so I can see why someone would take it easy.

indeed his technique got better, he is a better decision maker now too and of course with 30 years you can't run or jump like in the early and mid 20's^^

KamalAkaBeLikeKobe 2 years ago 2
so just because kobe can't dunk as good like in 03 or 07 he is passed his prime? he's been in his prime since 03 and now he's added even more post moves. He is even better now.

I'm trying to think back to this series. Didn't Kobe injure his right shoulder in this series?
BF33210 2 years ago

LMAO, 12-16 then went 4-14.

LOL, idiot why does kobe always ruin his FG%
KB42PAH 2 years ago
Layups are too easy, when things get easy as Walton said, he goes further and further from the basket ;) It probably has something to do with why the Lakers take it easy on teams some times like the Rockets in the playoffs. It's tough playing against people who can't challenge you. A lack of challenge can make people retire, so I can see why someone would take it easy.
Lamaj96 2 years ago
these games where he has a monster 1st half then fails to get 40 are so annoying.
39 = worst point total ever.

I always tell people that 02-03, 04-05 Kobe was faster, quicker and had better 1st step than Wade,Lebron, Jordan.
He had ability to get from 3 point line to rim in 1 dribble, and still shows it at times.

Kobe GOAT
GOAT 1st step.
GOAT jumper.
GOAT scorer.
GOAT player
LOL at comparing him to any player other than Jordan.

damn his quickness was off the charts in 03..sucks seeing he's lost a lot of that quickness that made him so explosive

Great upload. 02-03 was definitely Kobe's prime.
btw, why is the video sped up? Even the refs are zooming here.

02-03 season is when kobe trained hard to develop that ridiculous first step and acceleration. just look at 9:15-9:20
