kobe had youth, athleticism and explosiveness on his side back then. Even that kobe was not as athletic, fast or explosive than MJ or LBJ. Playing with a prime shaq is so much easier for everybody. All you had to do was dump the ball down low and you had an automatic assist. I don't how kobe didn't average a Triple double for every year he played with a prime shaq.

It's something called the triangle. Sure he had shaq, but shaq got good numbers because of the spacing of the triangle. so did kobe, pippen, and MJ. Not to mention the blazers, kings, wolves, and spurs were stacked back then so it basically evened out. He had good assist numbers back then, but when was the last time a player averaged more than 8 assists for PJ? right now, gasol is healthy because of kobe. having the easiest time in the post and rarely sees double teams.

@LmOnAy Of course Gasol is healthy because of Kobe. He doesn't get to take many shots to begin with. He sits there on the low post and doesn't see the ball that often. It's only logical for teams not to double team him. Would you double team a player who rarely touches the ball? Gasol complained about that a few weeks ago. In 9 quarters of games on the road, kobe had taken 67 shots alone. And they were losing. 67 shots? NO ONE with that kind of talent around him should take that many shots.

@LmOnAy I watch most of the laker games. I am not gonna sit here and say i watch them ALL. But, you can't argue with NUMBERS all the time. The Lakers are like 33-4 when Gasol scores at least 20-25 points and grabs 13 rebounds. However, the Lakers' record when ALL MIGHTY kobe goes 40 and up is not so impressive. Wanna know why? because when he goes for 40 or more, that means he's JACKING IT UP BIG TIME and the other guys are just bystanders. It takes them out of rhythm and they often lose.

However, Kobe needs to sometimes even force feed Gasol because when he goes for 20 and up, they win big time. Just like the other day against the Suns in game 2 gasol went for 29 and 10 and they obliterated the Suns again. The bottom line is kobe has TOO GOOD of a team around him for him to even need to score more than 25 in any given night.

@kanguesso That record might also have something 2 do w/ the fact that the Lakers arent getting much production out of anybody else. a la Game 5 2010 Finals: Kobe facilitates in the 1st half and the Lakers end up going down by double-digits. Kobe then explodes for 19 in the 3rd quarter to keep the Lakers competitive. Its just ridiculous how people try 2 find ONE stat and generalize it to one particular scenario. MULTIPLE FACTORS/POSSIBLITIES MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN OBSERVING #'S.

People will eventually hand all the credit to Kobe for winning the 2010 championships without realizing that the most consistent player in the finals was Pau Gasol. He literally took Garnett out of the Series with his aggressive play. You can actually make a strong case that Gasol could and should have been awarded finals MVP.

@kanguesso People are always looking 2 go against the grain. Pau Gasol played an excellent series, but the only reason people are trying 2 discredit Kobe is because he shot the ball poorly in Game 7. KG destroyed Pau in Games 3&5. When Kobe was literally unconscious making everything in Game 5, Pau was nowhere to be found. The Celtics D wasnt designed to stop Pau. It was to stop Kobe. So a lot of Pau's easy buckets came as a result of focusing on Kobe.

Sure, he carried his team mates in game 5 but he was carried in game 3 and game 7. Watch those series again. Pau Gasol destroyed Garnett in game 1, 2, 3 and 7 with rebounds alone. Gasol was the best player and most consistent player in the ENTIRE POST SEASON, Not just in the finals.

Nobody really had a good individual game except Ron Artest. Kobe shot 25%, Pau shot 37%, Pierce shot 33%, etc. It was a scrappy game. Pau-A BIG MAN-shooting 37% is just as bad as Kobe-A PERIMETER PLAYER-shooting 25%. And Kobe grabbing 15 boards as a SG is just as good as Pau grabbing 18 as a PF.

Kobe/Pau grabbed a combined 33 rebounds despite shooting 12/40. Kobe scored 10 pts. in the 4th quarter. D Fish made a big shot @ the end. It was a team win.

Pau Gasol was huge in this series but w/o Kobe we wouldnt have a guard to bail us out of tough situations and break down the Celtics aggressive D.

@kanguesso Maybe you should watch the entire playoffs again because Kobe destroyed everyone (except maybe the thunder, but he was hurt). Pau was great as well. Kobe averaged 29.2 ppg (on 46% shooting), 6 rpg, and 5.5 apg he was simply amazing. Pau averaged 19.6 ppg, 11.1rpg, and 3.5apg also very good for a power forward. If you're saying Kobe wasn't consistent there must be something wrong with your memory.
