@Dragonmaw what are you kidding? Really? This is really well done. The story is good for a short film, and since it was only animated by ONE person, that just gives even more credit towards being great. The animation itself is clean, the backgrounds are well done. Everything is perfect.

What you did in 5 minutes, many movies can't accomplish in 90. There was dignity & beauty in the pace of it. Character & atmosphere were great.

Eh, it was all right. The animation in the actual sword fighting wasn't very fluid at all, especially the impact of the swords when they clashed and the pacing of the slashes in general. On top of that, a lot of the heads/faces had some slight issues that needed tweaking in various shots.

speaking as someone involved with the project, we are more than aware of this.  Its all easier said than done my man, and with the amount of work that goes into even the smallest sequence, on a first try, sometimes you just chalk it up to learning experience. I'd like to draw your attention the segment at 3:07-3:29 as an example of work completed late in the project, after said learning experiences.

i highly doubt he's being sexist. that quote is just meant to emphasize that she might be too sensitive/caring to live the lifestyle of a warrior. Not only that, but it seems as this was in older times, where that belief is common among men. Though it clearly shows he cared for her.

i just wanted to say, i was involved in the story and we were aware that some might take offense. No real offense is intended. The character's viewpoint IS sexist, he lived in a sexist time, but the meaning is meant to be about emotions in general. This is something the fictional character WOULD have said. His lines may also be taken ironically, since in actuality Murasaki behaves well in accordance with the ideals of the samurai warrior. The action contradicts the dialogue.

Maybe the fight could've been a bit more suspense and action- but since I am an animator myself *and just a starting one XD* I know how hard it is to make it all dynamic like that. The mood of it was beautiful- I think the best scene was the one from the past- as they were children. That was really beautiful!

it was great it was so sad that they had to turn on each other you can tell that they had trouble fighting each other but in the end one had to die...and you can tell from her pain of having to kill him... which she was problably forced to do by her master...gave her so much grief that she had no choice but to end her life as well

Besides, I don't think the point of the story is the why, but rather just the reality of life and death struggle that can happen even between friends and lovers.

oooh very nice! the animation is really good, though a few more inbetweens during the scene unter the cherrytree and during the close-ups at the end would've made it perfectly fluid.

The only thing I can really critique though is the quality of the the voice and the acting...the quality wasn't as good as the rest of the sound and the girl's acting lacked emotion :/....

The transition between the flashback and the rest of the film was kind of weird, and the subtitles have a few typos.

However, the art is gorgeous, the proportions spot-on, and lovely character designs. The animation is very smooth, except for the crow in the beginning, when it was sitting on the tree.

It starts out a little slow, and then goes a little too fast, but overall, it's fantastic. ^^ Just my cup of tea. c:

The animation was great, and though I'm sure it was a pain in the ass to animate it all, it could have used a bit more action. Also, the way the guy fell at the end was more funny then sad...if it'd been more slow motion than the standoff at the beginning, it'd be more effective.
