Do you know what is wonderful? It appears that as he has moved on that the stuff he plays now is crazy more soulful. Watching him in a recent seminar video shows SO much more maturity in his playing. He has really inspired me through his videos! :) Motif and rhythm ideas over pure shred. Nice. :)
@ArpeggioFelatio In fairness it is all sweeping arpegioes placed in the oppertune locations, all been done before by Bach to name but one person. And learn to string together a sentance before you try to come back at me. Obviously he is much better than me, but then again i am not making shed loads of money from my compositions am i? And i am entitled to my opinion, so cool it
hahaha I can imagine yngwie sittin there with his doughnuts and coffee.... yelling at his computer "who's dis foooking man better at da guitar den me?"
Usually when I hear shredding like this, it sounds like shit. But Gilbert always makes his stuff sound really good. This kinda also brings me back to playing Top Gear on the SNES XD
@MattKondrath - Meh Dimebag was more known for the "Feel" in his shredding. Had a different tone to it. Techniquely i'm pretty sure that Paul Gilbert is better than most
@Najeepain *more than technique* and yeah it aint bad, thaugh to be fair anyone can string a few arpeggios together, shred metal sweeping sounds sick and is dificult to play, but relitivly easy to compose with a basic understanding of music.
It amazes me how people like to bullshit. I'm still wondering who the hell invented this "feeling x no feeling" speed matter. Because it's not from the Romantic era, 'cos this same era generated virtuosi like Paganini. It's ok if you don't like it, just don't say it is not musical, mr. Judge; and it doesn't matter if it's Malmsteen or The Ramones.

hahah.. "you can really be musical with that". That was anything but musical. it was fast and perfect but thats not what music is about... it sounded like a nintendo song sped up alot
I do not know anything about music that would be taught in a classroom or transcribed on a sheet of paper but I do know how good music makes me feel. and listening to this I feel nothing
@mystro810 that's your view of it - there are different styles which makes music an art. music affects people differently and in ur case this obviously doesn't appeal to you so get over it and move on :)
Thats funny considering that metal fans are usually the ones going around youtube hating on anything besides metal. anything that isnt technically perfect is considered crap to a metalhead. They give no respect to artists like Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, ect because they cant shred at 1000 light-years and sometimes hit the wrong note.
@mystro810 - thats why i don't respect them , and yeah i agree alotta dumbasses say shit like that which i think is stupid - -" i know exactly wat u mean and the truth is most classic metal players like gilbert were influenced by santana hendrix n all. still, no reason for you to be hating on this style of music, cuz it doesn't really matter what you think almost all music is derative from other oplayerslike hendrix. all da same bruh.
Actually, I like all kinds of music...without making any ill-judged assumptions as you tried to, I can safely say that you're the typical argumental douchebag that shouldn't be allowed on the internet....I don't see what you're trying to accomplish by arguing with everyone
@mystro810 im a metal fan (also likes regular rock, blues and classical music) who never went to a video i knew i wasnt gonna like and commented negatively. paul gilbert can shred fast but he can also play with lots of emotion like his solo in while my guitar gently weeps.
fairnuff , its how they're expressing themselves. its alright not to like the genre, its gud you respect the ppl if they're honest and not corrupt like some artists = = (y)
to be honest he's very good but i find all this shredding kinda boring after about two minutes, playing at warp factor ten isn't always the best . but thats only my humble opinion
i realise that it's a demo of his ability but i've listened to his work and i still find it gets boring !!!! sorry it does nothing for me i prefer brad paisley . i only had a listen because somebody recomended me to because i play guitar ,,....sorry not my style
In case anyone is wondering, this is from "Intense Rock", one of Paul's instructional DVDs. I'd recommend getting it, personally it gave me a lot of insight into his playing and helped me a lot.
