  • omg the xmas light and the epic music made me piss myself laughing

  • MOS BURGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha Die Hard. thats awesome. While You Were Sleeping is set around Christmas time so I kind of get that. Same with Gremlins, but still ..

  • tht food actually looked damn good ;p lmao. and tht santa was creepy as hell.

  • Cooney... have you ever thought of settling down and having kids?

  • U made Santa sound like a phedophile.... I was creeped out and laughing at the same time XD

  • Your Santa impression was spot on. I've met him, and that's exactly what he sounds like.

  • @monalisasmiles4you

i know you left that post 6 months ago but its the only mention i've heard of sophia since i read adelstein's Tokyo Vice. so it drew my attention.

    congratulations! how did it go?

  • hahaha fried chiken seems to be a favorite of yours

  • I so wish that music did NOT accompany these videos, sorry.

Music is so distracting :( Sorry, but it is.

  • @GimmeKitty I find it interesting that you can't concentrate with music in the vid. I mean, it's no different than watching a movie.

  • @umumum1 Mmmm, not unless the film you are watching is a music video ...... on MTV, or some such.

  • I love this video. The part where you have the camera on the finished duck and vegetables and it is so silent that it makes me think about you having a lonely Christmas. Like "Who is going to eat this with... oh yeah no one is here. v.v"

  • LOL 8:41 !!! ♥

  • Oooh Mameshibaa~

  • 豆しば!!!

  • I wish I had a fire place like that.

  • hay where are the Video game places in Tokyo and the cool toys, video stuff like that I would love to see the Japanese TOYS R US

  • OMFG that voice was crazy

  • Nice lights :)

  • Wow your creepy santa voice was WAY too good ;o) lol

  • 7:25 SEXY :O.....

  • I actually watch die hard every Christmas(week of Christmas). and I realized every Network station plays it during the month of December, close towards Christmas air TV edits of die hard. so I do believe it's a Christmas movie. although it's not a "Christmas movie"

  • I wish I could live in Japan and just sit around in an apartment, watching the scenery through the window.

And occasionally go out to sample some Japanese food and get involved with their actitives.

  • lol Mameshiba!

yay Ikebukuro...my favourite place at the moment ^_^

I found Christmas in Japan to be kinda sucky.

I surprised a shop assistant by saying Merry Christmas to her...that was my highlight of the day XD

  • If I recall correctly, Die Hard AND Gremlins took place during Christmas. anyway, love the vids. makes me miss Tokyo.

  • MAMESHIBA!!!

  • wat the hell, kfc's comercial in japan is retared no offense. they use little kids in it! kids trying to sell fatty food to other kids and make them fat!! im disgusted. *_*

  • That Santa thing at the end was freaking creepy.

And I can tell that the one thing I'll miss most about America is having a full size oven. Maybe I can find one of those cookware sets on the infomercials that let you bake on the stovetop . . .

  • i wanna live in Tokyo is it better??

  • Wow, that was a pretty impressive light display at 7:43, verging on epic.

  • yup ~ i counted 12 bulbs...

  • Laugh my ass off! Advise those Mooks.

  • O My Goodness~ Man! That Crepy Riendeer!...well that was made from a picture of a HORSE's Head! that they put Atnlers on! Yer Videos Crack me Up for sure. Oh & BTW~ It appears as though you may be..well, losing wieght buddy. I hope you're OKAY~ doing okay with your eatting habbits there. EAT Up the foods that you love that are Japense! I Hope you are doing well. Best Regards

~Feile Case Arttist in Den CO USA.

  • 3:38 could it be...the Akihabara massacre murder! Nah jk lol

  • lol

  • Only 1% of the population is Christian/Catholic, so Christmas isn't Celebrated like it is in America. KFC, and pizza delivery are very busy during this time of the year and also popular.

  • Oh my gosh, your lights, they're...they're...regal, stunning, beautiful! ; ~; Never have I seen such a lovely display of shining Christmas spirit!

Okay, I'll stop. Random note: though Rent is not a Christmas movie, there are scenes that take place at and around Christmas. :)

  • Is that country music in Japanese?! I loved seeing all the different tree's. :) Lol at the creepy Santa.

  • hehe I had to look it up. Didn't make any sense to me but it didn't sound like Japanese. Cajun French :d

  • It sounds like its FRENCH OMFG WTF BLUE CHRISTMAS IN FRENCH IT DOESNT EVEN SOUND LIKE HE KNOWS HOW TO SPEAK IT Xd

  • XDXD Great video, Kevin!!! Your Christmas dinner looked great!!! Nothing like a good ol' roast, eh? ^_^

  • hahha glad u had a good time! what is up with all that hello kitty stuff? my god...it's full of cats

  • $55 for a stinkin poinsettia?!?! That porn shop ad is epic: "サンタもびっくりお得価格!! "クリスマスなんてぶっ飛ばせ!

Mr. Cooney, seems that 2009 was a very very busy year for you but I think that means you're enjoying a lot of success. I'm proud to say I was there to witness the star in the making! Good luck in '10 and may your snarkiness live on.

  • WTF haha

  • LOLOLOLOOOOOOOOOLLLL!!!

i'm so happy to get to come back to tokyo in feb. i'm sooo excited

  • That laugh at the end was really scary!

  • I saw that episode of Tokyo eye too yesterday, NHK world is awesome o.o

But I wonder.. did you get that bun with cream for free? :3

  • Western food recreated in foreign countries , especially Japan, always ends up so lame. The food you made in the little oven looked nice, but not Christmas dinner nice was it?

  • hey, i enjoy your vids... been here in japan for over a year now... should have watched these before coming here... would have helped a whole lot!!!

    Happy 2010!!!

  • Great intro! Love the set!

  • Haha! The sign said "Kira Kira Winter" and Kira translates to killer (or kill). What, is winter gonna be a killer or something?

  • actually kira kira means like sparkling

    so sparkling winter i guess

  • @23savanna kira kira, to twinkle.

  • @23savanna kira kira when written in katakana means "sparkle sparkle" lol so it's basically saying a sparkling winter.

  • @23savanna kira-kira means "glittering" (^__^)

  • @23savanna yeah insect killer

  • Bahaha! XD When you were checking out the christmas films, i heard someone was losing at "Stacker" glad to know those are in Japan. Merry Christmas and happy holidays Cooney!

  • I love how your eyes just widen like that xD

  • What's up with all the little round yellow birds on the Christmas tree? Perhaps they are confusing Christmas and Easter.

I'll say it a hundred times, I swear Japan always looks clean. Wasn't that a homeless man in the cleanest train station I've seen?

  • Funny I'm watching your Tokyo Eye segment with your parents right now on the local Japanese channel here in LA.

  • I was in Tokyo in December and never saw Kevin... thanks for the cool video

  • omfg smexy hair + hawt glasses! *fetish spasms* .. one thing- are u sure its safe to leave a towel ontop of that oven? haha thats some perverted looking reindeer xD

  • 1:01 owned>!

  • man To bad im not gonna ever go to any school after highschool. Because if I did I would have moved to tokyo.

  • OMG! at 4:04-4:10.

I stayed at a hotel just around the block from the mall with the star on it.

  • you've been living in Japan a pretty long time

from what I've heard the Japanese are very racist is it true?

  • depends on how you look/threat at them... im half Japanese lived in both japan and usa but ive seen more racist stuff in usa than japan... maybe because of where i live (SC) but anyway.. lol.. and stop being stereotype.. or stop believing in stereotypic stuff. peace.

  • Actually; it's not Christmas without True Lies... I still don't understand why BBC1 shows that move every year without fail. No xmas is complete with out a little Arnold.

Suppose I'm not that much better. My xmas in Japan video choice was Terminator: Salvation... which of course included a short cameo appearence from a butt naked Arnie - so that's how statesmen make a bit of extra on the side in the US.

  • I have to find that multi-tier oven you used. Mine is one of those single tier crappy things. Guess I'll be body checking people on the 2nd or 3rd at Bic Camera to get a cool oven.

  • Got the oven on rakuten. Bic Camera was totally freaking useless. They have super expensive automated ovens. Mine was like 80 bucks online. Don't even bother with the electronic shops.

  • i found that the special thing about xmas in japan is that everything is open...unlike canada..even wallmart was closed!

  • You're right. Everything in Canada closes on Christmas. It bites.

  • ^^ The reason everything was open is because there aren't a lot of Christians in Japan so Christmas isn't really all that big, just a time to spend a lot on pretty decorations, they celebrate the commercial version and even then, it's usually only lovers who celebrate Christmas. ^^

  • 99% of Japan look Christmas as an event, not religious stuff at all... usually families and lovers who celebrate Christmas.... i got Christmas presents every year when i lived in Japan.... New Year is bigger event in Japan because people send postcards to relatives and friends, and kids get ten of thousands yen(hundreds of dollars) for Otoshidama from adults, and lots of stuff...

  • Merry Christmassss!!!!

  • hahaha amazing video. i enjoyed it! i just spent my christmas right nextdoor in seoul, korea! i wish i were in tokyo!!!urrrgh

  • I can't believe it's been a whole year since I was in Tokyo. I miss it sooo much. Hopefully I'll be there again over my spring break =)

  • hahahaha i love your lights

  • The grinning reindeer made my Christmas.

  • These videos seem to be getting funnier and funnier.

  • Tokyo Cooney,

I'm going to study abroad at Sophia University this summer. It's in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo. Have you been to Shinjuku? What are the coolest restaurants and stores there? Any advice for traveling in Tokyo?

  • has he been to shinjuku? im sorry but you cannot comment unless you watch all his videos lmfao.

  • Too many to even begin mentioning. Shinjuku is an area as big as most cities. I believe the sofia campus is not even at shinjuku station but a few stops away. There are plenty of recommendations on line though. Google is your friend.

  • you called "the nightmare before christmas" "a nightmare on elm street"

  • oooops!

  • Pretty damn good. They use the word Christmas more than we do !!!

  • OMG That Is Creppy!!! MREY X-MAS KEVIN!!! Hope u enjoy u dead birds...

    terrible... lol

  • Hahahahaaaaa Santa impression nicely done. :D

  • I loved 3:34 shot... very poetic

  • lol that santa is creepie

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who believes Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I mean c'mon, who can forget "Now I have a machine gun. Ho Ho Ho" LoL

  • Ever plan on putting all of your episodes on DVD? I'd totally buy them.

...Yes, I'm that much of a loser.

  • Lol that is funny but i do like the light decoration in some part of Tokyo

  • You're great man! I love your uploads!

Hope you had a great christmas!

  • informative and hilarious as usuall

  • Hans...bubby! I watched Die Hard this Christmas.

  • hahah japanese celebrating commercial Christmas like crazy!

  • isn't that upside down star used for like satanic rituals?

  • Die Hard actually IS a Christmas movie. There's a Christmas party, Christmas music, and the bad guys are Grinches.

  • "Nightmare on Elm Street"

    Sure, that's Christmas-y.

  • That cardboard fireplace looked like it had a huge bunsen burner in it.

  • "uh helllo? its not christmas without die hard!" haha lawls

  • u got dat right...it aINT CHRISTMAs without die hard!!

  • Wikipedia says "..KFC is so prevalent in Japan that many Japanese unknowingly consider it to be a Japanese Company. On Christmas day many families (who have made reservations weeks in advance), have their traditional Christmas dinner at KFC. Colonel Sanders has become somewhat of a cult figure in Japan. Not only is there a life-sized statue of the Colonel in front of every KFC, but his memorabilia like wind-up toys and figurines can be found at many toy stores throughout Japan.

  • The tradition of eating KFC at Christmas dates back to the early 70s, when an expat customer at the chains Aoyama store observed that, in a land bereft of Yuletide turkey, fried chicken was the next best thing. The stores canny manager was paying attention and passed word on to the higher-ups, leading the company to launch its ludicrously successful Kurisumasu ni wa kentakkii! (Kentucky for Christmas!) campaign in 1974.

  • it just wouldn't be a tokyocooney video without goofy random music!

  • Merry Christmas, Mr. Cooney, from Chicago.

  • On Christmas Eve,here in the UK,ITV showed Gremlins too as well as The Corpse Bride.Maybe they got their inspiration from Japan? They called TCB a family movie... i.e. suitable for all.Jeez what a weird choice

I liked translating all the katakana on labels and signs in the videos.I'm getting a lot better with it.

    Merry Christmas man!

  • Can you send me some of the leftover chicken? I live in Michigan, I send you my address.

  • mmmm dead bird!

  • @8:15

Perhaps you should've briefly touched on the significance (or strange "custom" rather) of the Japanese sex industry's role in the society during this time of the year. (IF you're at all familiar with it.)

For those who are not in the know, there's a symbiotic "commercial" relationship that exists between Christmas (Eve) and the adult industry in Japan. It's quite fascinating, romantic and ridiculous all at once! ; D

    Meri-kuri, y'all!

  • Christmas Happy Price! Success to Connect!

  • Mameshiba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Domo arigato. Merry Christmas.

  • It was great to see this on Christmas morning! Hope you had a nice holiday!

  • EYES

  • I hope you get to recharge your batteries with a stateside trip in the near-future--you look exhausted!

In the meantime, though, Merry Christmas from the USA and God bless you and yours! :D

  • lol, that reindeer at the end () reminded me of Joe Camel

For a second there I thought that the video numbers (ex 5:43) were the prices of the videos (I was thinking that I knew Tokyo was expensive but paying $60 for an Anthony Hopkins movie is ridiculous but then again the lamb looked really pricey too - I think I saw it priced just over $21)

And I remember that Sandra Bullock movie ("While you were Sleeping") it actually is a Christmas themed Romantic Comedy (it wasn't that bad either)

  • merry christmas!

  • Pretty sexy Christmas! I like the soy bean character and your light display.
