the EV/IV knowledge is useful to have. I don't care for tier lists or standard move sets, half the fun of pokemon is figuring out these things for yourself. I use Bulbapedia more than any other pokemon site because it doesn't attempt to review pokemon for me, it just gives me the info. It helps that the site also doesn't have the 'WE ARE LEGION' feel to it.
smogon is ok, however, making blaziken uber is too much, its not that powerful if dealt with properly, same with garchomp, now blaziken gets his ass kicked by giratina and the like

I have nothing against original movesets (I use some in my teams), but I meant if you are gonna try to have fun, you should have evs and ivs put correctly, use smart pokemon and smart movesets. @drybowserman9091 I'm not sure as I have never seen or used a Hariyama before on my battles, specially because No Guard Machamp would be a better choice for a fighting type on a team, and, hmm, no I think using Facade is a bad idea. Sure you get the status boost but Normal type attacks can't hit anything for super effective damage, and a important thing on any set is coverage. I mean, right there you have two attacks that can't hit ghost types. And it can learn Cllose Combat which also gets STAB
@TheSolBlader Lati@s, Salamence and Garchomp aren't threats because they hit so many things for Super Effective coverage, they're threats because of the Neutral coverage they have. On the other hand, Electivire can hit 13 out of 17 types SE, but it's UU!
Kabutops in 4th Gen UU had SD / Waterfall / Return / Aqua Jet and it was brilliant because there was Cradily and Shedinja who resist Water/Normal in UU. If your opponent didn't have either (especially if you were in Rain), you usually swept.
@SteelPokemonFan It's actually all about the stats, very few things can handle their attacks, I mean, even a superb wall like Vaporeon has trouble with something like Garchomp. Honestly, Weavile laughs at them hard, and she's so underrated, that's why I love her. And! Using rain is pretty much an easy sweep honestly, even more now with Dream World Politoed which I bet none of you knew about because you're obviously not into the competitive scene

@TheSolBlader I have swept with it a lot! I was using Electivire and the Dragons as examples. Also, I am into competitive battling, and if it was all about stats, then why are Rotom-As in different tiers? Typing is not everything, you have to account for movepools & abilities. Heck, if it was all about stats, Smeargle wouldn't be OU, Slaking wouldn't be NU and Riolu wouldn't be viable at all this Gen. But now with Prankster it has a niche is using Priority Copycat after Roar.
@TheSolBlader Also, Rain is not broken anymore. With no Swift Swimmers, Rain Sweepers are harder to come across and if you don't have a way to deal with Rain on your team, then your team is probably crap anyway. Weavile is too frail to do much, she switches in on a Dragon, the opponent switches, and Weavile takes residual damage. She is also weak to Mach Punch & Bullet Punch.
Concerning Kabutops, Stone Edge has bad accuracy (but is good) and Superpower should really be used in OU for Steels.
@drybowserman9091 I'd try Toxic Orb+Guts if I were you. Being burnt will half your Attack stat which is the last thing you want on anything with Adamant. Being poisoned however has no secondary effect on your stats.
@UphamE Both Toxic and Burn half your Attack. And Guts makes Hariyama more physically powerful, not less physically powerful. Besides, I'd rather be burned than badly poisoned.
@drybowserman9091 Being poisoned doesn't change any stats. If you don't believe me then look up both Burn and Poison (status ailment) on Bulbapedia. It'll say right at the top what each one does to a PKMN in terms of hp and stats.
And forgive me; I knew the basics of what Guts did but I didn't know that it was unaffected by Burn's attack-decreasing effect. So yeah; the Flame Orb would work- I just thought Toxic would be better.

@RobloxSTICKMANX25 I play both competitively and casually. I try different teams on Pokemon Online every day, so I can finally decide on what team I want to train up on Black. But I try to use some NU/UU pokemon, and my teams tend to lean more towards the "hipster" side. I think there's maybe 2 commonly used pokemon total in my team. I lose a lot of battles, but I also win about as many times as I lose, and I have fun with my team, which is the most important thing to me.
Oh yeah, my team's somewhat hipster, too. Get this, I'm actually considering my revenge killer to be Weavile.
I do also enjoy casual play, but to people like me, it feels a tad childish. SOO strategy-lacking. Any competitive player can kick the ass of a casual player in seconds, even if they're not using an EV-trained party.
The weird thing is, though, before anyone in my little 'clique' of PokeNerds heard about competitive battling, we were mostly already playing by Smogon OU..

-it has perfectly distributed stats, with 100 base speed, not too many pokemon can outspeed after a DD
-outrage, fire blast, and earthquake can hit most pokemon for neutral damage
-there aren't many pokemon that can counter every Salamence set, steel types get hit by EQ or FB, ice types usually can't withstand a +1 outrage
-in ubers people found a very effective rayquaza-salamence core so salamence can function in ubers

@TheSolBlader Lati@s, Salamence and Garchomp aren't threats because they hit so many things for Super Effective coverage, they're threats because of the Neutral coverage they have. On the other hand, Electivire can hit 13 out of 17 types SE, but it's UU!
Kabutops in 4th Gen UU had SD / Waterfall / Return / Aqua Jet and it was brilliant because there was Cradily and Shedinja who resist Water/Normal in UU. If your opponent didn't have either (especially if you were in Rain), you usually swept.

@SteelPokemonFan It's actually all about the stats, very few things can handle their attacks, I mean, even a superb wall like Vaporeon has trouble with something like Garchomp. Honestly, Weavile laughs at them hard, and she's so underrated, that's why I love her. And! Using rain is pretty much an easy sweep honestly, even more now with Dream World Politoed which I bet none of you knew about because you're obviously not into the competitive scene

@TheSolBlader I have swept with it a lot! I was using Electivire and the Dragons as examples. Also, I am into competitive battling, and if it was all about stats, then why are Rotom-As in different tiers? Typing is not everything, you have to account for movepools & abilities. Heck, if it was all about stats, Smeargle wouldn't be OU, Slaking wouldn't be NU and Riolu wouldn't be viable at all this Gen. But now with Prankster it has a niche is using Priority Copycat after Roar.

@TheSolBlader Also, Rain is not broken anymore. With no Swift Swimmers, Rain Sweepers are harder to come across and if you don't have a way to deal with Rain on your team, then your team is probably crap anyway. Weavile is too frail to do much, she switches in on a Dragon, the opponent switches, and Weavile takes residual damage. She is also weak to Mach Punch & Bullet Punch.
Concerning Kabutops, Stone Edge has bad accuracy (but is good) and Superpower should really be used in OU for Steels.

@drybowserman9091 I'd try Toxic Orb+Guts if I were you. Being burnt will half your Attack stat which is the last thing you want on anything with Adamant. Being poisoned however has no secondary effect on your stats.

@UphamE Both Toxic and Burn half your Attack. And Guts makes Hariyama more physically powerful, not less physically powerful. Besides, I'd rather be burned than badly poisoned.

@drybowserman9091 Being poisoned doesn't change any stats. If you don't believe me then look up both Burn and Poison (status ailment) on Bulbapedia. It'll say right at the top what each one does to a PKMN in terms of hp and stats.
And forgive me; I knew the basics of what Guts did but I didn't know that it was unaffected by Burn's attack-decreasing effect. So yeah; the Flame Orb would work- I just thought Toxic would be better.

Most people who say Smogon sucks are those who never battled a intelligent player before. There is more to battling than putting 4 different moves on a Pokémon and choosing which move is super effective.
Sleep clause exists for a reason. Breloom will Spore every member of your team, get 3 Swords dances and annihilate almost everything.

Sleep clause is for noobs. My proof? Smogon noobs in random matchup think everyone observes it! So what do I do? I Hypnosis twice in a row (usually)! THEY ALWAYS SWITCH OUT THE POKEMON I JUST PUT TO SLEEP! Since my Spiritomb has a Zoom Lens and PATHETIC Speed, the Hypnosis hits most of the time!

I just want my victories to actually be listed somewhere else besides in the "W" variable on my graphing calculator! Every time you guys DC, I raise it by 1 as well, but I want my game to have it listed, too!
Note: I've been keeping track ever since Blue version, so I have 3044 wins (not telling my losses and draws right now).

@RobloxSTICKMANX25 I play both competitively and casually. I try different teams on Pokemon Online every day, so I can finally decide on what team I want to train up on Black. But I try to use some NU/UU pokemon, and my teams tend to lean more towards the "hipster" side. I think there's maybe 2 commonly used pokemon total in my team. I lose a lot of battles, but I also win about as many times as I lose, and I have fun with my team, which is the most important thing to me.

Oh yeah, my team's somewhat hipster, too. Get this, I'm actually considering my revenge killer to be Weavile.
I do also enjoy casual play, but to people like me, it feels a tad childish. SOO strategy-lacking. Any competitive player can kick the ass of a casual player in seconds, even if they're not using an EV-trained party.
The weird thing is, though, before anyone in my little 'clique' of PokeNerds heard about competitive battling, we were mostly already playing by Smogon OU..

Sleep Sense, Freeze not so much... No other status clauses exist to my knowledge...
Sleep, easily controllable (spore) and can affect entire teams if not moderated... I agree with this one
Freeze on the other hand doesn't always work and can cause a player to lose a match to pure chance (10% chance on all moves with that chance if memory serves) even though the chance is low it's still stupid, freeze clause shouldn't exist...
