you know how at the start of the video you put the clip on top and it split the bottom clip?

This is why: If you look closely you can see that the top clip turns grey. it will split anything underneath it if there is only a grey OUTLINE. when the clip is COMPLETELY coloured in grey, it will not split the clip. you just have to move your mouse around a little to play depending on whether you want the clip to split or not. :)

Hi so I am trying to do this but instead of it turning whiter it is just getting darker.. so rather than changing the transparency the clip is just turning black. I don't know what I am doing wrong..

Hey man.........this is a great tool. I have a question though. I just got FCE 4 and I am running an external LaCie Firewire hard drive for my scratch disk. When I do opacity overlays like this, the video won't even play back. I'm curious as to how your system is set up? iMac? Mac Pro? MacBook? External drives? Any info would be great....thanx man.....

I have a white macbook. 160GB HD, 4GB RAM. I run all my Time Machine Backups from a 500GB WD MyBook external hd, and all my Final Cut renders from my 500GB WD MyPassport hd

hey there, i am trying to do this effect using three clips, with 3 individual characters. i want my main character to be the background clip, and that character to be in the middle, with the other two characters either side, blended in nicely. For example the main character is a girl, and shes reflecting back on two different men, either side of her. How do you move the blend so that i can put one clip on her left & the other clip on her right?? hopefully that made sense.

I dont completely understand what your asking, but if I read part of it correctly, you want just the actor to be blended into the background, not whats behind the actor. For that you will have to add a mask, probably a garbage matte. Then mess with the blending modes from one of the tabs from the Menu bar, I don't know exactly what one but just go to the help menu and type a name of one of the modes, say SCREEN and see where it points to. and of course lower the opacities and layer the video.

this helped a lot, thank you! one question though- how do you do that if you only want part of a clip to show up in just a corner or something? i tried cropping it, but when i do that it shows a complete square like outlined, and i don't want that i just want that part of the clip to come in naturally, ya know? And not have it looked outlined.

if you have a clone and one clip is darker than the other so it makes a line can you change the opacities to make it good

anther way u can delete the audio with video is pres 'control A' (to select all) then press 'control L' to (unlink the video) the audio track from the video track and thats another way u can delete it like that too

Oh yes, you can do it that way as well. Sorry I am used to working with many clips and when doing so the locking method works best, so I didn't mean that was the ONLY way to do it.

The best an easiest way to remove audio is to simply click the 'option' key as you click on the audio track and it will highlight only the audio track and click delete.

Yes I was doing it this way because I'm used to working with large amounts of clips where in that case if you want to delete all the audio the locking method would work best. I would like to incorporate graphics from a drawing or "paint" program into my videos. For example, I'd like to make an arrow, then use it to point to something on screen. How would you accomplish that, either from within FCEHD, or by importanting a graphic into FCEHD? Thanks. Marius
