OH man I remember going to the Frontier when the old city hall still sat across the street - Saw E.T. there when it 1st came out and most of the Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies as well...Sad to see it gutted - much like coming back to Nampa after being gone for years and finding Eastside School nothing but a field. :( My old stomping grounds are all gone.
When I was young the Frontier was the theatre that civilization forgot.
Friends of mine would go there and raise all kinds of hell like throwing beer bottles at the screen during movies, pissing in the seats, and generally just causing all kinds of pointless damage to the place. Someone I knew lost his virginity in that place. There was even a story about someone filling a seat with newspaper and lighting it on fire.
So yeah, the place has all kinds of memories for me as well.
when I was a teenager my friends and I would go to the dollar movies there and sneak beer in and we would be the only ones in there drinking beer and smoking cigs while watching crappy movies on that HUGE screen. the frontier is what it was called then and it stank inside and half the seats were broken the wallpaper was torn and hanging. it was awesome. it's too bad they're turning it back into a nice place.
sneaking beer into the frontier WAS something to do. for the kids and young working class folks anyway. now it'll be something for the yuppies
and suburbians and the seniors can take in a matinee before naptime. everything cool gets gentrified these days. i hope you get rich, then you'll have your reward in this world.
Honestly the vision that the Pix Theatre board has is completly opposite of what you're saying. This theatre will be a community theatre bringing in at risk youth, teaching theatre and media arts. It will be a meeting place, a place to show film, have film festivals (both local and national)...the list goes on. The vision is to include everyone from all walks of life.

It's a good thing they're renovating it. It'll give people something to do in downtown Nampa again.
