In NFHS, that is considered bad sportsmanship and should have been a red card. A red card is side out and point to the other team. The player is lucky to have received a yellow card, which is just a warning. A red + yellow card would have removed him from the match. Any profanity in NFS is a red card.
I have actually done the same, except I hit the ref in the head!! Luckily he's a long time friend, I was embarassed & exclamed how sorry I was for losing control. He said nothing except give me a yellow card, which in USAV is Penalty of a point/sideout. This is not H.S.Girls match nor NCAA. Notice there's no line judges, but there's coaches, it most likely is Jr. Olympic USAV, especially since the team captain approaches the referee. Bottom line...don't ever get so mad you kick the ball!!
For the record In USA Volleyball the yellow card is a point. In Woman's College and High School it is only a warning. I as a ref would have only warned if I felt it was not intentional
It obviously wasn't intentionally kicked at the ref. He kicked it off the side of his foot by accident, but people have to remember what any referee's or umpire's first concern is, and that is, safey of all participants and spectators. Regardless of the sport, they are there to maintain a certain degree of order. Even if he kicked the ball under the net, it should be a YC which is only a warning with no point loss. The ref's thought process has to be that someone could roll their ankle, etc.
haha. that's bull. i saw a girl get a yellow card for...
the ball being in and her saying 'i was standing right there, ok?' and the ref like exploded and was like... 'captain come here (the girl also happened to be the captain) yellow card.' it was funny.
aha one time. In one of our games The other team blocked us and went " WHAT!" and made that (What motion) so our guy went " Hey Fuck YOU!" and no cards were given to either :S..
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd
If a player kicks a ball even under the net the very least they're getting from me is a stern warning, maybe even a card based on their demeanor. Now if a player kicks a ball and it hits me, my stand or another member of my crew or the other team the absolute rock-bottom least they get is a YC.
Never a card, the ref should have blown his whistle and admonished the player, its the refs job to see that players do not approach cardings situations
Yellow Card DOES give a point. That's why some refs prefer giving a red card to a player which actually deserved a yellow card, when the game situation is so tensed that giving a free point would be unfair. For example, i saw a referee giving a red card instead of a yellow one because the game points were something like 14-12 in the 5th set. A yellow card would have given victory to the others.
Well, in Europe, according to FIVB Volleyball Official Rules, yellow card is penalty and mean lossing a serve, and point to opponent team.
The red card means expelling the team's player(s) for a set and also mean serve and point for opponent team. The both cards (yellow and red, together) mean disqualification of player for that game and the player must leave the game area.
A yellow card is a penalty for the team. She lost the service. The red card ist a expulsion for the player, he must going to the "Penalty Area" for the rest of the Set. The 3rd action ist Yellow/Red. The yellow/red card is a disqualification for the player. He is sent of for the rest of the game.
Also the yellow card is an individual penalty, however the team suffers due to the loss of a rally. Every player and staff member of a team can get a separate yellow card. About the red and yellow/red cards you're absolutely correct.
I'm afraid your opinion is based on the rules which aren't valid anymore since the late nineties. At present, the yellow card results in a loss of a rally.
very entertaining =)) thanks for posting keep it up .. god speed

@doud0un3 I play in the OVA and have never once seen a card been given by a ref, and there's been lots of swearing.

"Never a card???" This is at least a YC, if not more? Under what the hell kind of rules set do you work?
bbsbvb83 4 years ago
what the hell are you talking about? that should have been just a warning. he didn't mean to hit anybody.
hamp313 3 years ago
"that should have been just a warning." A yellow card IS just a warning. That is EXACTLY what a yellow card is!
bbsbvb83 3 years ago
actually yellow card gives the other team a rally (free point), warning would just be nothing
kc604cham 2 years ago
but still. i woulda given a yellow card. He kicked the ball (Warning) and hit the guy.. thats a YC at least!

I got a yellow card last season for yelling fuck you to a heckler in the crowd and we still served it.. He just said to ignore him and keep playing.

Actually, a yellow card is JUST A WARNING! A RED CARD results in a loss of rally / point.

The International rules of Volleyball say under Art. 21.6 that a yellow card a penalty is. And 21.3.1 say:
21.3.1 Penalty
The first rude conduct in the match by any team member is penalized with a point and service to the opponent.
But by Beachsoccer ist a yellow card a caution for the team.
