Was this ident not used when Thames took over the ITV London franchise in the late 60's...and immediately after all their technicians went on strike? Explains the basic ident we have here....
@redsnapper1959 I read about this. As you may be aware, Thames was formed from two previous franchises; Rediffusion and ABC, with ABC in the driving seat. In the very earliest days, it was often noticeable that programmes produced by the former Rediffusion folk out at Teddington (ISTR) used this logo while the former ABC folk closer to the centre of London got the original skyline version. I think there's an article somewhere on Transdiffusion about it.

@frglee Could well be the case . . . London Weekend Television's early ident was a straight white on black logo as well !
