I really want to move to japan, but they have some large and creepy looking insects and it really scares me and puts me off. Being british, the largest spider i have ever seen is the tegenaria,( you probably dont know what that is by name, but google it, its basically a big house spider). They are pretty small compared to spiders in japan the size of your palm running across your wall, i think i would have a heart attack if i saw one! D: grrr!
Looks like a hornet/wasp, which we have here in the USA. I've seen the giant Japanese hornets much bigger than that one even and yes they are agressive little buggers.
More like over-sized wasp than a bee. I hate your average tiny UK wasp so i would be terrified of this fella. Thumb me up for having the guts to watch this thing! I'm an insect coward - sorry, except for ladybirds and catterpillars. I like them fine.
Gorgeous! I can imagine they are nasty, but nevertheless it looks gorgeous! Like the orb spider it reminds me of these giant, colorful insects in fantasy computer games. In Germany there are just ordinary wasps which are quiete aggressive but a lot smaller.
As a kid many moons ago I got to see a hornet and a spider fight. That was like the coolest thing I had seen!
As I recall, the result of the fight was "undecided". Or maybe it was a defeat to the spider as I think the spider tried to catch the hornet and it went terribly wrong as the hornet was a bit too big and energetic for the spider to get a good hold of.
It's rare to see such a fight and it was very exciting.
You can choke to death if you get an allergic reaction of a sting. Many people have died like that. I've been stung a few times and even though it was very irritating, I had no big reactions so I think I don't have such an allergy that could quickly turn lethal.
this playlist is no good for me D: ewwww.... ;___; i'm always afraid the spider/bug/insect/disgusting thing (whatever it may be..) suddenly jumps out of the screen directly in my face. but... well... thank you? XD
you should get a video of the スズメバチ! actually don't i wouldn't want to put you in any danger. i think that is possibly the most dangerous insect in the world!! i thought this might of been it, but the one im thinking of is bigger and has an orangeish color. maybe I'm wrong and this is that one? I'm not sure, google the スズメバチ and let me know ;)
we call it "marimbondo" in brazil i've once got stinged in the finger by one of these... and beleave me... it hurts a LOT... never make one those mad... NEVER hahahaha
@PhasmatisApparatus This is largest hornet species in the world. It is considered one of the most dangerous animals in Japan and kills roughly 75 people a year. Very big aggressive and dangerous. Can kill you even if your not allergic because their size an large amount of venom.Softypapa channel has some good videos about this insect an Japan as well check them out too if you wanna know an see more :)
My Aunt is extremely allergic to anything that stings or bites. She has to carry a spring loaded syringe, where you remove the safety cap, slam it against your thigh, and it injects an IM epi dose. She then has something like 30 min. to get to a hospital. Needless to say she dosen't venture out of the house often. (And when she does you can bet she knows where the hospitals are!) I'm no Dr. but carrying Benadril is always a good bet if you have mild allergies.
@TheJapanChannelDcom i was just wondering when you were going to put up the snake video. i would love to see what kind of snakes you have living in japan.
The Japanese name is "Suzume bachi". Suzume is the Japanese word for "Sparrow" and bachi (hachi) is for "bee", that ought to give a good indicator of the large size of this hornet. They can bite yes, but that isn't the danger, their sting can be deadly, especially for the old, small kids or those with allergies to bees.
I did a quick search and, apparently, there's no hornet repellent like there is for bugs....only way to get rid of them, should they pose an immediate threat, is pesticide.
That's an Ashinaga-bachi (Paper wasp), not a Suzume-bachi (Sparrow bee).
Distinction between them are, Ashinaga (meaning long legs) has narrower wings, smaller and skinnier body, longer legs specially distinguishable when it's flying.
They are much more common in residential area and they build tiny hive compare to Suzumebachi. Their venom is not as dangerous to kill a person but still hurt so bad if you get stung.
Japanese bee? Do the bees there bow at greetings and take their shoes off before entering their hive? They probably don't have a queen bee, but a shogun. LOL! That might make a decent cartoon.
I think that bee is called the Asian giant hornet, according to wikipedia. They also called it the Japanese hornet.

An easy way to deal with it would be to spray some aerosol through the screen. Most bees will choke on the vapors and die in no time flat.
Of course, that wouldn't help much, if more come after it.
