Corben was amazing! Always wished they would use more of his projects as films! If you ask me...his work was (at least in part) the inspiration behind the movie Avatar!
Indeed, when Cameron wrote Avatar in 1993 he was inspired by HM the movie and HM magazine for the film. You can tell how Avatar was to HM magazine/movie
Well Cameron reinvented motion capture on film with his animation and do you agree that Avatar was like a big screen HM issue brought to life don't you think? it's also cool he loves HM the movie and HM magazine and used some of them as elements for his movie
Would you compare Heavy Metal to Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in The Shell, Wizards, Fire and Ice, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Wicked City, Heavy Traffic, Fritz The Cat, South Park The Movie, Golgo 13 and Wicked City when it comes to cartoon movies that aren't for kids
@Johnlindsey289 In terms of thematic matter or what? Personally, when I was a child I certainly would never have been allowed to have viewed such pictures by my mother, that's just the era that I grew up in, I don't know about you or these current generations. Now, it just seems aloof and carefree, so it seems. If I had children of my own, I probably wouldn't be entirely restrictive but I sure wouldn't allow Urotsukidoji at all. It's a bit much.
what awesome boobs!

@dukes0916 James Cameron was influenced by the Heavy Metal movie and magazines when he conceived of Avatar.

@Johnlindsey289 The Avatar aliens were a Corben rip-off. Corben's were better, though. I even find Corben's animation here more watchable.

The John Carter of Mars influence is obvious, but respectful. I, too, wish that this could have been on the Heavy Metal DVD.

Now, this is infinitely better than the effort that is Heavy Metal.

My guess is a rights issue... I thought I read that Corben was not pleased with the finished movie.

This is legendary material here! I'd always read about Corben's 1968 Neverwhere, but never thought I'd get to see it. Thanks for posting
