If we made all television public access we would get more worthwhile television programs. REASON is how the highest part of our superconsciousness makes sense to our consciousness here. Many do not know this. Many IGNORE THIS and many do not understand what Bill Hicks was saying. If you do you know why he got in trouble, censored, and finally died super early from cancer. Its no accident.
Stop watching TV. If we all do that those power structures will crumble. Practice Awareness. Breathe Deeply. and then give some money to a street musician. We will awaken our inner Samurai and Resurrect the wild open freedom of what this country once was. "Burn down the malls." -Mojo Nixon.
the letterman material was "unsuitable" because it was identical to a previous work by Dennis Miller. his explanation was bullshit and propa propa gan-DA propa propa gan-DA propa propa gan-DA (let's mambo!) propa propa gan-DA.
oh yeah, "unsuitable material" doesn't mean material that was plagiarised; it means material not safe for viewing. Same way porn is unsuitable to minors not because it's been done before, but because its porn. To put this in terms you will understand.
P.S. If you think Hicks' standup is random insults then you have never heard or seen Hicks' standup.
@diddymuck This: "the letterman material was "unsuitable" because it was identical to a previous work by Dennis Miller". Damn youtube should show responses to posts right below the post they comment on. Anyways good luck with that, since Bill up there specifically says that the producers counted his pro-life joke as one of the "hot points" that led them to excise his show from Letterman.
Bill was a guiding beacon for us all to exemplify; within yourself is a Bill waiting to be unleashed. Each of you who watch this, unleash it, and you will unleash it within all those around you...and maybe we can try and change the world, and Bill's ride won't be a waste.
"There's a change coming out.. you can't put out puerile crap 24 hours..." The one thing he was ever wrong about? It's only gotten worse in the past decade. There is no demand- not that I can hear anyway- for genuine programming. I guess people of intelligence stopped watching television a while ago, but there are apparently enough people watching VH1 (etc, etc, etc) to keep it running.
Bill underestimated how docile people could become. We have more TV channels and faster Internet connections than ever, and we're collectively dumber and more cut-off than ever.
@fivedinners The Hicks/Rand connection plunges into opposition after their fundamental propagation of individualism. Rand couldn't be called a humanist; Bill definitely not a capitalist. The connection you're seeing is that they're both anti-corporatist/anti-fascist. Don't draw the line any closer than that. Rand sees a world that could be, Hicks sees the one that should have been.
Sadly the world we now live in is exactly the world Bill warned us about. I sometimes think Bill himself is better off out of it listening to Hendrix on Harp. I think if he'd have lived on he would have gone 2 ways. He would have either been an activist or would have killed himself at the futility of it all. In the UK and we have a comedian named Frankie Boyle who's prescence on a TV show was the only reason people watched. When it went prime time he was dumped. He has Bills heart.
Bill was taken in 1994 (1+9+9+4=23) at the age of 32. This symbolic display of broken symmetry is evidence of an illuminati plot to rob the world of its true leaders and silence the voices of those who show us the true path.......
@MirrorSymmetry the only reason people like Bill Hicks aren't recognized more for whom they are is you, and people like you, people I like to call dumb ass mother fuckers, go sprout bullshit somewhere else.

@oatstao That's your interpretation. Part of his act is the frustration of the world conforming to the 'system' and not seeing what big multinational, unbrella corporations are doing to them that have a seemingly infinite amount of power
The acts hardly going to be the same if he dons a posh english accent and says "Oh you Americans, you simply must open your proverbial eyes!". And to be fair, we should all be angry in the way the world runs. 9/10s of us humans are in poverty for Christs sake

I think it's great that people are talking about what Bush deserves, but the argument I would pose to Bill Hicks is that we should put Bush on trial where the death penalty is an option, rather than assassinate him.
Bill Hicks - a worlwide way beyong things that could have been have said on a USA network - still typeing these things years on - fuck the networks not allowing bill to say what he wanted to say
What's scary is that he had cancer at this point, the punchline is that he was losing. If you ask me it was very sad and now were all searching for a voice, I hate to say this but I don't think its Barack, I'm not racist so don't even accuse. That voice may never return. Or be found. That's also tragic.
Obama worked his way through the same establishment--kissed the same asses, did the same song and dance. His calls for "change" were too vague to believe in.
Hicks, however, had a profound disgust for the state of America, and placed the blame at institutions we're taught from birth to revere, or at least tolerate. He was brave enough to spark "controversy" over his views. We need more people willing to do that, especially in these times.
I heard when he was a kid, he was hiking in this ancient forest and found the glasses sitting on a 600 year old tree stump with thorned vines entangled around the bark. He lifted the glasses from the stump and a bright light shone upon him from the skies. A voice said, "Bill you must wear these glasses to spread the truth among your brothers and sisters". Bill slipped on the glasses and smiled, a strong energy flowed throughout his body. "I understand, I will go and spread the news".
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i love people in the 90's who attacked Clinton, don't they look foolish now considering what dubbya has done? "Killed 6 innocent people", how about a few hundred thousand innocent people, makes Clinton look like a saint.
haha he shocked me when he said"we should of assassinated bush" i agree, honestly i dont see how someone hasnt killed him yet.. when the secret service is gone, hes going to have to hide for a couple year..

I love that fake laugh that he does when he is mocking something or emphasizing a point!

What ever happened to that show? Did he go through with it?

Bill Hicks was too 'REAL' for television.
Just like anyone else who is brave enough to incorporate the 'scary truth' into their art, he was ostracized.
It's a f*ckin' shame how politics has poisoned every aspect of human existence.
When did it become unacceptable to speak the truth??

What's scary is that he had cancer at this point, the punchline is that he was losing. If you ask me it was very sad and now were all searching for a voice, I hate to say this but I don't think its Barack, I'm not racist so don't even accuse. That voice may never return. Or be found. That's also tragic.

No. I'm black and I agree with you.

Bill Hicks was a good man - true to himself and all of us.

"I understand, I will go and spread the news".

i love people in the 90's who attacked Clinton, don't they look foolish now considering what dubbya has done? "Killed 6 innocent people", how about a few hundred thousand innocent people, makes Clinton look like a saint.

Just because Dubya has a very bad record doesn't mean that Clinton wasn't bad too.

Not sure if you're referring to Bush Sr. or not, but just saying that Hicks is definitely talking about Bush Sr with that comment. Just friendly FYI.

Bush Jr would have to hide even longer than Bush Sr...
