If you didn't know Pinchas was one of the world's greatest violinists, with that burly build and mop of hair/beard you'd think he might be a kibbutz veggie truck driver!
@winrx Stern did not sound awful, there's reason why he once was the greatest violinist. he's strong sound that he creates with his thick and hard pressing vibrato. so far i've never seen any vionists even close to imitate this particular sound. and he really deserves del gesu
Niente toglierà mai l'eternità a Mozart! Nè mode, nè epoche, nè musicisti che hanno paura di suonarlo, nè impresari che hanno interesse a non farlo. Mozart sarà sempre, fino a quando esisterà l'Umanità.
In todays age of arbitrary quasi improvisatory rubatos that more often than not prettify the music Stern and Zukerman impart a sense of inevitability to the music
that is a prerequisite towardsdoing justice to Mozartsgenius
actually i liked his 1st viola the most, you can see it on the early Handel-Havorsen clip from i guess 1975. It was a Gaspar De Salo which he sold in Paris in the early 1980's. i loved that viola !!!!
oh, this is a bit different from the vangerov and bashmet version,, it is like,, more faith to Mozart´s piece,, not? It is visible in the beauty cadenza that I can´t see at Bashmet version.., however,, GREAT!!
If you've seen the rest of the concert, which I bet you haven't, in the Vivaldi piece, Perlman is bowing the complete opposite direction as Stern and Zukerman, and is playing too far up the bow. I mean, he's still a heck of a player, just saying though.
he also taught renaud capucon, if someone knows him. he s SUCH A GREAT MUSICIAN! go and listen him once, and also his brother gautier who plays cello. they´re just EXCELLENT!! and so very nice people! (sorry, this is quite off-topic :-) ) but anything else: where is the rest of this piece??? i mean the other 2 movements?

Nice, but I prefer the recording with Itzhak Perlman, Stern is not very precise. And the tempo here is little bit slow. Could you add the rest - second and third movement ? Thanks

What was the point of Isaac playing on a priceless Guarnerius del Gesu? He just sounded plain awful regardless, didn't he? lol

This isn't the second movement. This video would be the Allegro Maestoso aka Part 1.

I notice that the master violinists (and violists) maintain a slight crook of their left wrist when they play.

nobody does the viola recognise
but I love zukerman's viola music

I love Zukerman on the viola too! But I prefer him paired with Perlman. They are my idols.

"nobody"?
that is really silly. You think you're the only person roaming on this planet who likes the sound of the viola and Zukerman's playing?
SillyComments 2 years ago
No, it was a little bit theatralicly... sorry. I only want to say, that the viola isn't so well- known as the violin or the cello...

Stern falls behind around 1:35. Not together with the orchestra till the next big tutti.
