There is no doubt that Alex Higgins was a genius on a snooker table but there is no way that Alex was a better player than Steve Davis. Apart from the Coral UK Championship in 1983 and maybe one or two others. Most of the time when they played Davis used to annihilate Higgins. Alex was a great player but he would often take on one difficult pot too many and throw the frame away. They are both legends but Steve was always a much more consistant player than Alex. The record books say it all.
Better in terms of flair yes. Davis was obviously the better all-round player though & was mentally tough. Which is why Davis has won more tournaments than anybody else & Higgins pissed his talent up the wall & put himself in an early grave.
Here's the way it is and it really is obvious. Davis raised the bar by learning from Reardon, Hendry raised the bar by learning from Davis and O'Sullivan raised the bar by learning from Hendry. Its not that one player is born better than another its that the more time passes the more we unlock the mysteries of playing this game better and better. The standard will continue to get higher and higher the more we play and learn. I believe we will get so good pro pockets will have to get even tighter
3:26 that blue was an amazing pot! one of the best pots ive seen under that amount of pressure in a championship final and on the last frame! wow what skill
Steve Davis is a total legend.

The best EVER. This hitory books may turn out to say Hendry, but I feel that Davis was a slightly better all round player.
