The thrashy riffs in a lot of these songs sound good, but then when he starts growling in this song at the begining parts it's almost as if he's doing a barking version of James Hetfield lol
"You're slave to their power You never question why You were born to suffer You are going to die!' Politicians, here's what I say!!! No fucking way, you hear me?!?!! "BASTARDS! I see you in my dreams To hang on trees Hanged on trees Hanged on trees"
@Dav5bg the DM inflence came later this is pure crust punk/hardcore to the total extreme this is before DM really made a big impact, especially in england.
I am so happy hardcore metal has come so far since this time, realistically this guy has an ok growl. the guitar is mediocre, and its all the same monotone sound. But without experimentation we have new genre. BTW for all the ND fans, I did not mean to offend. Its just boring compared to today's shit.
"Favorite grindcore song, especially 1:37 forward. Side-A of Scum was amazing. The second side was fast, but that's about all it had. This was the real Napalm Death."
This is grindcore, but it contains elements of those three things. This particular song is pretty much thrash metal with hardcore overlay/aesthetics and death growls (with some overlay in that too).
yes you're right, i always thought they were british. thanks for pointing that out. puss head was a very talented artist and composer. alathough im standing by my comment that over here in the uk, grindcore was not widley used as a description for this kind of music until the 90s. i'd heard of sk8core, british hardcore or simply hardcore punk.
Actually 'fuckinthraher76' you are correct. Ripcord, Doom, Intense Degree, + the ones you named were referred to as 'bristish hardcore' by the media back then (NME and John Peel). It wasn't until late '87 that they started calling all those bands grindcore due to the fact that Mick Harris coined that along with 'blast beat' cos he and Heresy drummer Steve Charlesworth got into a friendly drum rivalry of who was faster. Kinda like The Stooges being called 'rock' in 1969, then 'punk' in 1977.
Does this sound like Repulsion's "Black Breath" or am I just a grind bastard with bad ears?

there was no such thing as grindcore back then, it was simply british hardcore.
fuckinthrasher76 3 years ago
Wrong! Actually, the group Napalm Death coined the term "grind" to name the style of music they played, with some reference to the Swans.
