  • Turn on the bright lights! Yay!

  • Stopped after 30 seconds, but still - give me back my time!

  • I've caught onto the James Blake 'hype' pretty late, but I'm bumming his songs at the minute :L Good old Latitude festival!

  • Hey man would ye check my mix out of this track and give us a Little feed back? It's limit to your love 'the story mix' thanks bro keep up the good work!

  • UK is the forge of music.

  • @KojoMan87 I JUST THOUGHT THE SAME: EVEN IF I M FROM BEERLIN THOUGH**

  • that is a great track, but I think there are other songs on the album that are much better.

  • Interpo's turn on the bright lights on the background

  • Gil Scott-Heron And Jamie XX GO!

  • i followeed your madvillain link i subsrcibed

  • I personally hate the track, and almost everything else the guy has done... I honestly don't understand what's the big deal.... Plus, I still don't understand how his music is "dubstep"

  • @caitlinx54 The foundation for "dubstep" lies not in grimey wobbly LFO modulated bass lines but, for the most part, in it's rhythmic DNA. James Blake's "dubstep" tag comes from that as well as a few other things that is hardly associated with dupstep these days thanks to all those wobbles. to clarify, I'm a huge fan of james blake AND grimey dub so I'm not trying to get on your case.

  • @richiedollabillz it's post-dubsteo for me.

  • @ohmysausages post-dubstep does not exist.

  • @ITsHxCTOASTER It most certinly does.

  • @ohmysausages It really doesn't man. This kind of of dubstep sound was around before the more modern "grimy" wobbly bass kind of dubstep.

  • @ITsHxCTOASTER call it future garage if you want but it most definately exists as a new sub genre, nobody has come like jamews blake/mount kimbie before. Maybe witht the slight exception of burial.

  • @caitlinx54 Listen to Unluck. You can totally hear a dubstep footprint with the triplet drums and the bass and the general structure of the track. Just because it doesn't have a filthier-than-filthy sub-bass does not make it not dubstep.

  • It's on my local radio's playlist. I guess the track's not bad, but that bass part is pretty irritating, to the point unpleasantness.

  • A very strong Trip-Hop/ Electronic element is what makes it good. It's not something I haven't heard before but it's pretty good. I would like to listen more from him.

  • YES! We share the same opinion! I loved "Limit to Your Love" too :) I like Feist's original also, but there's something about James Blake's version that really got to me.

  • album (which i will buy once its out legally) is a revelation. Pure unadulterated artistic masterpiece. My vote for one of the most important albums of all time.

  • DUDE! please review Tim Hecker's Ravedeath, 1972 when it comes out in february as well. that would be a treat. cheers.

  • I LIKE JAMES BLAKE. I like it.

  • Bells Sketch, CMYK, Klavierwerke EPs > James Blake LP

  • I'm relieved James Blake finally got a review by you, although you missed out on the three(!) EP's he made in 2010. Other artist that i thought should also be reviewed in 2010, weren't (i.e. Mount Kimbie with Crooks&Lovers and Shackleton with Fabric55). I don't know why because these three artists - especially Mount Kimbie - have made the most soulful electronic music that I have heard in ages.

  • Wow, this is like if Mount Kimbie became much more conventional... weird.

  • Reviews British Sea Power - Valhalla Dancehall

  • the album's leaked, review it now. NOW.

  • @TheTelepathicKid twoism forums

  • @echobears whut

  • I'm really feelin the new Madvillain tracks.

"Avalanche" has that old 60s/70s soul sound.

Real dark, actually. It has a more serious sound to it than the playfulness of the 1st album (in 2004).

"Victory Lap", same thing with the dark vibe. Its more funkier. Not better. Then it changes up into some abstract/ avant-garde sound (which is hard to describe).

It definitely makes me excited to hear what Madlib has in store for us this year.

  • it reminds me of bill withers

  • Amazing song... It kinda gets under your skin... U should also check out "Wilhelms Scream", the album version... Pretty cool 2...

  • CMYK

  • Great tune. Reminds me of Jamie Woon. Anybody who liked this should check out "Night Air" and "Spirits"

  • Comment removed

  • james blake is the shiz

  • limit to your love isn't my favorite but maybe it'll grow on me. wilhems scream, footnotes and i never learnt to share seem to be my favorites from him at the moment. I'm stoked to see him this year at sxsw!

  • I think i have the same headphones as you. AKG's FTW!

  • Track review of Toro Y Moi-Still Sound

  • I love bass music and James Blake is pretty terrible.

  • since this review, this song has been on my mind. When i'm at school, at the gym, or when I'm about to go to sleep. I SING IT IN MY SLEEP EVERYBODY

  • YAY James Blake,

    DO ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER'S RETURNAL

    (if you like)

  • Great Job!

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOW

  • Hahah I knew you had a sense of humor. T&EASGJ! is great

  • can you do noah and the whale album out in march?

  • Love the whole album and can't wait till you review it, but I'm surprised you said Fever Ray, because I got strong Burial vibes on this track.

  • loved both of these songs! trying to find the James Blake song to download

  • You keep giving me madvillian, and i'll keep giving you sweet, sweet thumbs ups.

  • You being a Tim and Eric fan seriously bumps up your awesomeness level.

  • Loved it. Loved it. great song

And yes. you should do the dual video/audio reviews.

i totally dug the mad villain review.

so yes. keep doing the audio review/podcast/thing.

  • sticks out like a sore thumb... AVGN ?

  • AnthonyAnthonyAnthony you mustmustmust review Bunny Holiday - Mmm Yummy Yummy Yummy

  • "Everyone Type "Won" Before youtube.com

  • Madvillain, MF DOOM; What's the diference.

  • @rockomundo Madlib.

  • @rockomundo Madvillain is the duo of MF DOOM and Madlib. Like DangerDOOM is Danger Mouse and MF DOOM.

  • Turn On the Bright Lights for album of the week, AWESOME!

  • Thumbs up for his voice sounding completely different on His new Audio-review!

  • More dubstep reviews please?

  • the album is shit

  • Thanks for reviewing madvillian. More people need to experience madlib and MF DOOM.

  • I DID BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!! =)

  • Actually the subbass is in no way quiet (listening to dubstep with headphones? lulz)

  • I really like your AOTW-pick, but you should really take a short time to tell youtube a little about it (why you picked it)!

  • Such a great tune. Another for consideration, and at least a listen is 'I never learnt to share' also by James Blake. Been on repeat for days, and I'm pretty sure it'll stick with me throughout the year :D

  • Review Night Walks by Hidden Orchestra !!!

  • hey Anthony what kind of headphones are those ya gut thur?

    and how much?

  • Nice Interpol sleeve! imo that was the best album of the previous decade.

  • this track is great. I'm looking forward to his new album

  • You should review the new Mew track "Do You Love It?" from their best of comp "Eggs are Funny". It's a cool track and I think you may, at the very least, like it if not love it.

  • I'm doing it!!! same time!

  • I found that song really bland. Painfully so.

  • Can't really get into the whole James Blake deal. People were creaming last year because he used silence instead of filling up the holes with noise. I AM PLEASED to report that on the album he does add noise in between the sound cuts, however I haven't even listened to the whole album in one sitting because it's just so long-drawn and as soon as I hit Limit To Your Love I feel satisfied. Gotta say tho, good music for rainy days. u should review smith westerns - dye it blonde :)

  • @Kubiak04 this album hasnt come out yet

  • @Kubiak04 persevere until you get to 'To Care' and 'I Mind'... quite simply amazing. gotta be one of the best albums of the year and we're only in january!

  • Anthony Fantano Awesome Channel, Great Job!

  • Limit to Your Love is one of my favorite Feist songs, and James Blake's version is pretty good too- of course the piano is the biggest thing that sticks out to me in this song, which I really like in both versions :-) Could you please review PJ Harvey's new song 'Written On the Forehead'? I would really appreciate it. Keep being awsome in 2011 Anthony!

  • But Madvillain is ;) !!

PS ... Sorry for being a total weenie about the whole rap thing - I'll stop now ;)

  • What did you think of his EPs?

    Needle drops for your health.

  • review currensy-pilot talk2 or his new mixtape return to the winners circle

  • TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS

  • woah i actually knew about something you reviewed before you reviewed it... i feel in-tune... check out mount kimbie's "maybes" if you haven't already... its similar to blake's electronic instrumental stuff and its one of the better thinga ive heard this year... i mean, it was one of the better things i heard last year... and this year too...

  • do PJ Harvey's next album when it comes out

  • review toro y moi's song still sound?

  • Hey, I've got that Interpol vinyl too! Good review.

  • I got season 4 for christmas!!!

  • @ColonelCrunch33 do you mean chrimbus?

  • @theneedledrop haha the funny thing is, i considered changing it after posting it

  • Turn On the Bright Lights on ya wall, can't go wrong with that indeed.

  • I tried to get you to review CMYK months ago. you never did. that made me tear

    ='[

    ^ like that.

  • @eb0nikz well i will be doing the album. will that make you do this: :-)

  • @theneedledrop it's a start =D

  • I give it a 7. But thats just me

  • I give it a 7. But thats me.

  • Yeah, he's really awesome.

  • Review "All We Grow" by S. Carey, percussionist of Bon Iver's solo project. It came out in July, but it's really nice. :)

  • Eat a pizza.

  • I found this track to be a little TOO similar to the original for me. Blake mimics Feist's vocal style so well that pairing it simply with the verbatim piano sample from the original made me think I was just listening to the same song stripped down. When Blakes electronics flipped into the mix and took the place of the piano they didn't have the same fuzzy mystique that I really loved from Klavierwerke. I did like the harmonizing nearer the end though. Still, definitely gunna pick up the new LP.

  • Next track review should be "Shell Games" by Bright Eyes. And the album in Feb, but that's a ways off.

  • please review the new bright eyes when it comes out

  • Your voice sounds so wierd on podcast

  • @Thismeaningtoitall double dose

  • wtf .. i hate sober ppl

  • anthony the james blake LP, has leaked a while ago, review it :D

  • Jeremy Says: review Erykah Badu

  • THX for this!

  • MADVILLAIN!

  • This is not all that relevant but that Interpol album is gr8.

  • You gotta review Yuck's album when it comes out on the 27th. they're my favorite band and it'd make my life.

  • whats ur tattoo of? looks cool:)

  • Would love to see a Destroyer "China Town" Track Review or a full Kaputt album review when it is released.

  • you should really really review Big Blood - Dead Songs.

Oh and you just have to review The Legendary Pink Dots - Seconds Late for the Brighton Line

  • Great track, took a few listens to grow on me though. Slightly different sound than what I'm normally used to when listening to J.B. Can't wait for the debut, loved his previous EP's!

  • Love James Blake.

I'd say listen to his Bells Sketch, CMYK and Klavierwerks EPs, they're just as good (and some what better) than this track.

and review White Shoes & The Couples Company - Album Vakansi

  • I think you should review british sea power's new album valhalla dancehall when it comes out!

  • when is Anthony Fantano in HD coming?

  • i am glad you liked it. it is good as its own piece, and he has a good voice, but i do think it gets quite reptitive. and i do think feist's is slightly superior.

  • review request: Autre Ne Veut - "S/T"

  • You should do Erykah Badu's latest for sure:) New Amerykah Part 1. was amazing. Review Pt. 2 while there isn't much being released!

  • Anthony, you were completely right about this track. That helicopter/earthquake(ish) effect is amazing, I love how it just broods underneath the mix. He's got a really good voice too, and I love the understated delivery. Pretty emotional stuff.

    Thanks dude!

  • You should do Erykah Badu's latest for sure:) New Amerykah Part 1. was amazing. Review Pt. 2 while there isn't much being released!

  • great song! Didn't like it at first, but now I've come to love it! One of the best this year i think.

Plz review the remix EP "Seeds" that builds on "Tomorrow , In a year" by the Knife! I don't think you did a review of their latest album, and critics really seem to have different vews about it. I thought it was one of the greatest albums this year, and since you like drone and minimalism, maybe you should give it a try :)

  • MF DOOM's in Blake's video at :23.

    lols

  • Nice, Turn on the Bright Lights.

Got the vinyl for christmas. Finally.

  • Hey, I just listened to your Best Music of 2010 Part 2 podcast, and I noticed when you played "Kobwebz" by Gonjasufi you called it "Ancestors". I also noticed that you played only the first half of "Satelllliiiiiteee" by Flying Lotus, though I realize this may have been intentional.

Either way, I love your reviews dude, and thanks for advocating great music.

  • Wooow... James Blake got a review (finally, haha). Yep, I'm still watching after more than a year.
