Hey man would ye check my mix out of this track and give us a Little feed back? It's limit to your love 'the story mix' thanks bro keep up the good work!
I personally hate the track, and almost everything else the guy has done... I honestly don't understand what's the big deal.... Plus, I still don't understand how his music is "dubstep"
@caitlinx54 The foundation for "dubstep" lies not in grimey wobbly LFO modulated bass lines but, for the most part, in it's rhythmic DNA. James Blake's "dubstep" tag comes from that as well as a few other things that is hardly associated with dupstep these days thanks to all those wobbles. to clarify, I'm a huge fan of james blake AND grimey dub so I'm not trying to get on your case.
@ITsHxCTOASTER call it future garage if you want but it most definately exists as a new sub genre, nobody has come like jamews blake/mount kimbie before. Maybe witht the slight exception of burial.
@caitlinx54 Listen to Unluck. You can totally hear a dubstep footprint with the triplet drums and the bass and the general structure of the track. Just because it doesn't have a filthier-than-filthy sub-bass does not make it not dubstep.
A very strong Trip-Hop/ Electronic element is what makes it good. It's not something I haven't heard before but it's pretty good. I would like to listen more from him.
YES! We share the same opinion! I loved "Limit to Your Love" too :) I like Feist's original also, but there's something about James Blake's version that really got to me.
album (which i will buy once its out legally) is a revelation. Pure unadulterated artistic masterpiece. My vote for one of the most important albums of all time.
I'm relieved James Blake finally got a review by you, although you missed out on the three(!) EP's he made in 2010. Other artist that i thought should also be reviewed in 2010, weren't (i.e. Mount Kimbie with Crooks&Lovers and Shackleton with Fabric55). I don't know why because these three artists - especially Mount Kimbie - have made the most soulful electronic music that I have heard in ages.
Real dark, actually. It has a more serious sound to it than the playfulness of the 1st album (in 2004).
"Victory Lap", same thing with the dark vibe. Its more funkier. Not better. Then it changes up into some abstract/ avant-garde sound (which is hard to describe).
It definitely makes me excited to hear what Madlib has in store for us this year.
limit to your love isn't my favorite but maybe it'll grow on me. wilhems scream, footnotes and i never learnt to share seem to be my favorites from him at the moment. I'm stoked to see him this year at sxsw!
Such a great tune. Another for consideration, and at least a listen is 'I never learnt to share' also by James Blake. Been on repeat for days, and I'm pretty sure it'll stick with me throughout the year :D
You should review the new Mew track "Do You Love It?" from their best of comp "Eggs are Funny". It's a cool track and I think you may, at the very least, like it if not love it.
Can't really get into the whole James Blake deal. People were creaming last year because he used silence instead of filling up the holes with noise. I AM PLEASED to report that on the album he does add noise in between the sound cuts, however I haven't even listened to the whole album in one sitting because it's just so long-drawn and as soon as I hit Limit To Your Love I feel satisfied. Gotta say tho, good music for rainy days. u should review smith westerns - dye it blonde :)
@Kubiak04 persevere until you get to 'To Care' and 'I Mind'... quite simply amazing. gotta be one of the best albums of the year and we're only in january!
Limit to Your Love is one of my favorite Feist songs, and James Blake's version is pretty good too- of course the piano is the biggest thing that sticks out to me in this song, which I really like in both versions :-) Could you please review PJ Harvey's new song 'Written On the Forehead'? I would really appreciate it. Keep being awsome in 2011 Anthony!
woah i actually knew about something you reviewed before you reviewed it... i feel in-tune... check out mount kimbie's "maybes" if you haven't already... its similar to blake's electronic instrumental stuff and its one of the better thinga ive heard this year... i mean, it was one of the better things i heard last year... and this year too...
I found this track to be a little TOO similar to the original for me. Blake mimics Feist's vocal style so well that pairing it simply with the verbatim piano sample from the original made me think I was just listening to the same song stripped down. When Blakes electronics flipped into the mix and took the place of the piano they didn't have the same fuzzy mystique that I really loved from Klavierwerke. I did like the harmonizing nearer the end though. Still, definitely gunna pick up the new LP.
Great track, took a few listens to grow on me though. Slightly different sound than what I'm normally used to when listening to J.B. Can't wait for the debut, loved his previous EP's!
@AwesomeA1010 window seat is good but out my mind is amazing. look for her performance of out my mind/window seat at the soul train awards...... magical.
Loved both tracks, I really loved the podcast idea. More Needle Drop is always a plus. And I would like to hear your take on the new Decemberists album.
i am glad you liked it. it is good as its own piece, and he has a good voice, but i do think it gets quite reptitive. and i do think feist's is slightly superior.

great song! Didn't like it at first, but now I've come to love it! One of the best this year i think.

I thought it was one of the greatest albums this year, and since you like drone and minimalism, maybe you should give it a try :)
Hey, I just listened to your Best Music of 2010 Part 2 podcast, and I noticed when you played "Kobwebz" by Gonjasufi you called it "Ancestors". I also noticed that you played only the first half of "Satelllliiiiiteee" by Flying Lotus, though I realize this may have been intentional.
