i never really think about it, it's more rhythm based to me. i like to stay in the groove with my picking, so regardless what i am playing, on the beat hits there's always a downstroke, unless i do some rhythmic exercises (which i do lot lately, if you know meshuggah's bleed f. ex. :D). but in general i can play both (inside/outside-picking) nearly equal.

Nice work.. only thing is like a lot of cover videos, the backing track is too loud and it's kind of like miming because it makes the playing sound better than it really is: if you can find a backing track without the guitar track or just turn down high pitches on the equaliser and play along to the bass then we can hear your guitar work more clearly without Paul Gilbert as well.

actually i record more of my own songs at the moment and i would like to share this more with you than another cover (especially of the same song again), hope you can understand my point of view. but i can promise that in my newer videos and my future videos the sound quality gets much better and you can hear alot more clearly what i am playing. if i do another coversong in the future i will record the backingtrack completely by myself ;)

@fitzeflinger Sure I understand,after all you don't want to play something just because someone else said so,you must feel like playing it firs.Though playing things you've already played in the past is always easy and takes very little time.Also by playing the same thing you can tell how much you have improved these 2 years.I checked out some of your solo songs and they sound great.Maybe even greater if you added lyrics to them.Keep this up!

the most difficult thing is usually to separate the sextuplets from the 16th notes. the best thing you can do is to set accents on every quarter note, so you have to hit the first note of every 16th/sextuplet package a bit harder. in general its good to have a really strong picking hand for paul gilbert licks, thats where the real sound comes from. also try to minimize your left and right hand movement, but this doesn't mean you have to pick/grab softer, but the opposite.

roughly i mute the e and a string, the d string is undampened. my palm is on the two lower strings the whole time, so i don't have to think about it.
