um what is this. come on seriously. it's like seeing phish without trey or mike or fishman or page mcconnell. It's NOT phish. this is not the doors. i mean even if this was Jim and Ray wasn't there it's not the doors. so what band is this. not really sure
No one has to "replace" Jim. That's not the point. The point is to celebrate his poetry & their music. Ian has not been with them for some time now. He's in Japan with THE CULT right now. They re-banded a couple years ago. The singer from fuel 'Bret Scallions" was with them for a bit & I do not know if anyone per say is with them now.
They are playing in NJ at the Starland Ballroom very soon but it only mentions Ray & Robbie. Just remember, no one is trying to "replace" or "duplicate" Jim Morrison (God knows it can't be done). They are paying homage to his work. He was an inspiration to so many rockers out there. I think he deserves it. I am a poet and that would mean the world to me
i wish he would stop tryng to be jim. it won't work man, the only one who can be jim and thats jim. and... well.. i don't think he's up to that right now. so don't try just sing the song like you would normally and stop trying to impress.
I'd be a bit more relaxed on the new front man if he didn't want to be so much like Jim. Even wearing the same clothes... I mean, c'mon, who u kidding man? just be urself.
I strongly recommend seeing them. I saw the D21 in DC at the 9:30 Club last year, and I had my doubts going in, but they were really outstanding. Of course they aren't the Doors, but they are damn close considering Robbie and Ray are in the band; also, the entire band does everything they can to sound like the original. It it galling? Perhaps. Blasphemy? Of course. Exciting? Most undoubtably.
Don't let purist ideals keep you from a very enjoyable evening -- this is a way cool show.
There were rumours that they were in talks about coming over here later in the year and Im half tempted to see them.
and of course with the full knoweledge that i wouldnt be seeing the Doors, but two legends who were a part of an amazing band, playing some amazing songs live.
No one could replace Jim as a front man, but i think itd be worthwhile. even half of the original band is better than going to see some wannabe cover band.
