If you look closely at this footage, it has the little speckles and hairs like from the older movies....its just a clip from an older pirate movie guys.
Cool animation, looks realistic except for the swell... Should be at least 6-7 meters (20-25 feet) with such wind... But i see no problem to a ship sinking face to the wind : a wave breaks it on the wind side, water gets in, the ship tilts facing the wind...
i'm guessing there's an anchor holding it. while the wind is pushing the rear of the ship away, the front gets pushed down as the anchor chain gets tighter.
because there are no sails up to use the wind to keep the boat upright but the waves crash onto the bottom of the ship and because of its design it falls into the wind
@ViewerSonic cause the water starts to full fill the side with is opposite of wind first which cause it loose stability from this side.Actually i think the wood cannot stand against these waves and broke out.
@daneshjooyebadbakht A possibility but it would seem more logical for the water to slush over and fill the other side since the ship should have a slight list from the seemingly high winds to start with. Another possibility is that the cargo and equipment it might be carrying has shifted in the storm and cause it to capsize in the "wrong" direction. But since this seems to be a computer animated scene I would understand if its not 100% true to nature...
lets see, wind from the port bow, and she sinks leaning into the wind? Before you make a stupid clip, at least allow the thing to at least list to starboard as it should have! Dumb ass!
I could make a more realistic scene in my bath tub.
The poster of the video said they "rented" a ship; I guess he didn't lie- looks like they rented a hotwheels-sized model of a ship. That must be one cheap ass independent film.
This is not computerized, nor is it an actual ship. It is a miniature model of a ship being filmed in a wave tank. They filmed Star Wars like this, but with space ships. Trust me, I know.

The water looked just like this when Peter almost fell in, but JEsus walked on top of the water and calmed the storm. The storm subsided. The apostle Paul was twice shipwrecked from a storm like this!! Wow!
I have a videotaped stanza of a poetry recital that I would like to use 20 seconds of this video for. Please let me know how to receive your permission to use this clip. In exchange, I will be happy to give you a film credit. Thank you. Sam
I can see a ship possibly sinking like that. To me it looks like it's taking on a lot of water over the port side, which would cause it to list to that side. The wind looks like it's effecting it enough. I'm especially impressed with the level of detail in the water waves and the amount of spray they were able to get.
This clip will help me, as I'm planning to animate a similar scenario.
I give you props for this one man, nice job. Fuck all the people saying shit about it. They dont know how difficult CGI is. But I just started not to long ago and I know its a nutbuster. so Kudos on your project.
HAHAHAHAHA! Very clever. My impression from the artist is that the waves are waterlogging the boat and unbalancing it on the side it is taking on water, hence it rolled into the waves and wind.
I would imagine that the rigging in the wind would EASILY counterbalance that tho'
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Why would a ship that is obviously SO light, heel into the wind and waves? It should roll in the other direction, and it should be being set by the weather.
If you look closely at this footage, it has the little speckles and hairs like from the older movies....its just a clip from an older pirate movie guys.

I would be surprised of the masts and all that rigging remained intact throughout all that stress. nice job with the water though!

Why does the ship lean to the left? Wind is blowing from the left side.

If there was an anchor, the bow would point in the wind direction, the wind would simply turn the ship that way.

perhaps the creators point in this clip wasn't to be convincingly realistic, but to simply portray a vessel lost in a stormy sea. Well done!
