@Givarius haha calm down 1st of all. I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to say in your comment because of how you worded your sentences. But I will say that MPCist is a term to describe what one does with an MPC in a live context. Turntablists freak turntables in a different way than typical DJs do. Same principle. Why all the hostility towards something so sound?
it will be nice if you can make it work whit midi then you can record what your doing i thank i can fined a way to do this try useing native instruments guitar rig 3 midi in & out to audio interfacer i use reaper as a daw for my mpc i know u have the 8 outs on the mpc just take output 1 & 2 run it to the audio interface. now anything you do whit the pedal will record in the mpc and it will be there just the way you done it . steven easley on the beat! have a nice day
@ricky20000 you can get an mpc from damn near any reputable music vendor. also realize the mpc is a series of drum sampler sequencers from akai. there are also other products out there that work in a similar way such as the rolan MV 8000/8800 (which can be bough dirt cheap nowadays used) and Native instruments maschine (my personal preference nowa days) and even old units like the asr-x series that you can get off of ebay for around 200 bucks. educate your self before you spend hard earned money
@SolillaquistsOfSound yea i pick up on that right after i put the comment i should have erase it sorry about that, but great job on what u doing with the mpc
If u have ever seen a live performance by DiViNCi & SoS u would begin 2 understand the passion that goes in2 what he does. This right here is ill. In response 2 any1 saying that "it's all about how something sounds, not how u got there" & that "there's no merit in making something harder than necessary", c'mon now, this is art, it's all about being original, creative, & making beautiful music. I remember the 1st time SoS, VOTP, & I performed,& I heard DiViNCi kill it.He's a beast!-GRASSHEAD
how does you have the reverb effects? is he using a guitar effect or he has the fx chip for the mc? if he is using the guitar effect where do you connect it to?
1. u can get that same tone by looping virtually anything...if u chop it short enuf. 2. u can run any sound (such as that bass in the background) thru a distortion pedal and it will sound like a guitar. the "guitar effect" comes from the pedal, not the guitar. 3. if nobody knows it used to be a snare drum, then what's the difference? For me, it's all about how something sounds, not how u got there. there's no merit in making something harder than necessary. the easier the better, imo.
@puddingbrainsmusic: i don't think it's granular synthesis (but i don't realize what that is). the reason i say that is because i used to make sounds exactly like this one in my sp-1200. u chop off almost the entire sample to leave as small a fragment as allowable by the machine. then, loop that fragment. the loop repeats so fast (due to shortness of the sound), generating that tone. his vocal rendition of the process was pretty accurate, actually. it's nuthing special.
eh... trivial. hook a distortion pedal and a crybaby up to your asshole, or the muffler of a car, or a soccer mom, or a coffee machine, etc, and it will sound something like this.
so what.. is he like condensing like 10 snares into one noise to make that, or is he using like a small like, sliced section of a snare and basically looping that?
if anyone could explain this a little more id be very grateful.. its always nice to know how to do new things..
You loop a small section of the snare so you get a tone. It's the same principle behind some sampling synthesizers. Doesn't have to be a snare, i once made a very fat bass from a vinyl pop, using the same method
Hes looping a small slice of the snare, but he compacts the wavelength so it sounds like that really annoying sound, but with you pitch it up or down, put effects on it, you get his sounds.
Well then you have your answer to your original question.. I'm not a guitarist, I'm an MPCist.. I also have a natural drive to want to push the MPC to do things that it wasn't intended to do. I'm not trying to debate which is harder I'm just trying to take my field of focus and stretch it as far as I can and make good music in the process..
@SolillaquistsOfSound Mpcist... are your fucking retarded? Get your head out of your ass it's called "sampling" Why not try to approach knowledge as is apparent especially with fucking derps like you around. Now go fuck your self while and let knowledge rain supreme.
@Givarius I feel sorry for you cus you are ignorant and mad about something you shouldn't be mad about. If you have a problem with "MPCists" then don't watch the video. Or are you trying to convince Divinci to stop being an MPCist? Life is too short to hurl out negativity at something positive and it wont tarnish positivity so move along, Cletus.
the way in which he plays the mpc is like a piano, the notes are just set up differently (4x4 pads), a piano is an instrument that is played solely by pushing buttons (and pedals i guess, which he does also) and dont try to tell me a piano is not a real instrument
Man this is really awesome man so creative. I thought I was just gonna watch someone bang out a regular repetative drum beat. KUDOS! I almost got enough for the MPC 5k and this is givin me ideas, thanks man.
actually he kinda is - he has the sample mapped in the right minor key for the song so its impossible to play a wrong note. you can just tap in any order and it will work.
respectfully this is not true.. The notes are mapped out chromatically which can be heard as some of the notes that are hit are dissonant. The notes being hit in key aren't in order as you'll notice.
yeah i think he took the snare and hit the 16 levels function . pretty creative stuff, i liked the vocal impression of chopping up the snare haha, it actually helped me get what he did.
I respect any mutha than can make sometings from nothing into a nice sound,..guitars aint selling no more because rock has his time...this guy is a genius...eventho I dont like this gerne,..but its cool tho..

There is no such thing as *best* tool for any application. Just ask any post-production studio. There are things he can do with his "guitar solo" setup that a guitarist can't do.
Logic and art don't mix when logic hampers innovation.
Im asking myself, and i'm telling me i couldn't give a fuck what you think. Tell me this guy is a grade 8 guitarist and is "choosing" to perform his 38/s solo on a digital sampler because... erm... no, i can't think of a good reason either.
Because he's innovative. Your opinions reveal: you are a hack. You're not a true artist; or at least one with any vision. No real artist would put down another's particular method for achieving his work. I'd refrain from making yourself look more and more foolish by laying down your indefensible stance.
Pardon, i was merely expressing my right to an opinnion (which you clearly do not share) as a grade 8 guitarist. Not once did I claim to be innovative or an artist. In fact, right now im using a fork to remove bolts from my fairing despite the fact theres a perfectly good spanner which was designed for the job right here too ! It's not easy, but it sure is innovative! You think I look foolish, excellent, the opinions of a faceless keyboard warrior have significant gravitas in life :)
probably.. but its obvious that hes not a guitarist.. but yet a creative artist. now.. can a guitarist create something as such? can a strict guitarist even come close to what this man can produce on this level of music? he is making music using his methods.. and thats all that really matters.. sit and appreciate.

This is not innovative and if you think it is *rolleyes* then im gussing your just young and ignorant, the likes of Carl Cox / Liam Howlett / Micky Finn / Toby Marks and many others have been doing this kinda stuff since the late 80's and even before that late 70's early 80's soft cell / gary numan to name just a couple. I don't blame your ignorance, your just a wee peep, i can see that.
his methods are still his methods.. he made the sounds and he used them to make a guitar solo.. he didnt say anywhere in the video that he was the first to try to create sounds using other sounds.. plus they were techno/house stars.. divinci is using a snare turned guitar to layer into hip hop beats.. he does great things with the mpc.. thats all! and micky finn? mickie finn from the 60's was more innovative... lol.. tainted love? simple beat machine.. simple synth *shrugs*
That seems like a fairly intelligent response dude, you should be proud!! Tainted love isn't the only Soft Cell tune in the world. You should check the rest of Mark Almond's stuff. The art of falling apart is an awesome album. And way ahead of it's time. And trust me Micky Finn was a giant at Kinetic in stoke late 80's here in the UK. Guess you had to be there!! The crazy thing is, these peeps where doing this kind of thing with vasty primative samplers than we have today.
Solillaquists of Sound/DiViNCi is definitely Hip Hop. It may be a little hard to tell from the video and how abrasive the sound is but, if you can peep the studio version of "Berlin" then you will understand.

his methods are still his methods.. he made the sounds and he used them to make a guitar solo.. he didnt say anywhere in the video that he was the first to try to create sounds using other sounds.. plus they were techno/house stars.. divinci is using a snare turned guitar to layer into hip hop beats.. he does great things with the mpc.. thats all! and micky finn? mickie finn from the 60's was more innovative... lol.. tainted love? simple beat machine.. simple synth *shrugs*

The crazy thing is, these peeps where doing this kind of thing with vasty primative samplers than we have today.

and ya'll thought only hip-hop producers/artists fucked wit the MPC
BIGDO13 3 years ago
I would consider this hip hop. He was using a sample in a very original creative way over a drum loop.
SouthOx 3 years ago
lol, I guess, the genre of music he's doin is actualy closer to rock or metal, but he is incorporating a lot of hip-hop production techniques....
BIGDO13 3 years ago
I like your take better then mine ha.
SouthOx 3 years ago
Solillaquists of Sound/DiViNCi is definitely Hip Hop. It may be a little hard to tell from the video and how abrasive the sound is but, if you can peep the studio version of "Berlin" then you will understand.
TheGlitterWhale 3 years ago
Yeah I was going to comment on that, SoS and them have mad different sounds goin on
SouthOx 3 years ago
I use it for Industrial/Metal. MPC is the best if you don't have one get one.
