He does improvise if you listen more closely. For example on Zombie Live he has a solo that whilst including bits from his own albums also includes inprov.

That is a fact.

The idea for this video was that it is to promote his music from his albums therefore that is why he is playing songs from his album.

I am sorry. my comments came out wrong. I am a HUGE fan of john 5. i have all 3 of his albums and have seen him live w/ zombie twice.

The kind of improvising im talking about for live solos is stuff like Zakk Wyldes. John 5 is a great guitarist and i look forward to getting his next album (requiem) and i am not bashing him in any way. i just made an observation from both his solos live. it would just be nice to maybe see some new stuff in his solos.

Not to ruin your image of John 5, since he's my favorite guitarist, but he's not playing with his teeth (as I used to think guitarists could do before I started playing), he's just hammering and pulling off on the strings which is just tapping the string with a finger on the desired fret and as long as your guitar has good pick-ups (which I'm sure his does) it can sound almost identical to actually plucking the string.
