What I always liked about Johnny Cash's gospel songs is the sheer ferocity he sings them from the soul --- Cash had many demons, but he stuck to his belief that he was a Christian and that he was going to heaven when he died. Unlike the religious freaks on t.v. today, Cash's version of the gospel is so clear and undiluted that his gospel songs are probably the best form of evangelism Christianity had during the hedonistic 70's.

Why did he struggle? So he would have a broader perspective, he didn't lose his way. He found himself in the struggle. Those Christians that think they have to walk a straight line in order to go to heaven well they didn't take the journey to find any "real" answers. Those answers are nothing more than beliefs where as a man who struggles finds answers that he is craving. Weather they are true or not doesn't matter. They were tested in through strife and therefore more valid.
