  • Santa Rosa, CA chicks are the best! I love it!

  • @Peoria3165 RIGHT, gotta love those Santa Rosa chicks.

  • People, this album dates from 1974. WMMS used to play "Cars and Girls" every Friday evening. A wonder record which sold diddly at the time. These guys predate punk.

  • @FlaggerX Thank you so much for the history lesson.

  • And I'd SHISTABOOBAH!

  • AWESOME@!!!

  • i hear similarities between the dictators and bruce springsteen. who, by the way, is releasing a new album "The Promise" on 11/16! anyone else planning to get this?

  • @SamanthaGarde I dont hear it at all.

  • @SamanthaGarde

The Promise is actually a double CD compilation of previously unreleased songs drawing from the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions.

  • Artists and songs had changed.. i still love the 80's.. No xerox groups!

  • crazy to think the drummer is my boss now hahaha

  • @CAPRICECLASSIC93 WTF ?!

  • @CAPRICECLASSIC93 Stu Boy King is your boss? I hope your job is as good as it sounds.

  • dick 'taters

    wicked tune

  • one of the most important and underated bands in the hisotry of Rock

  • D.F.F.D.

  • Originally this is a a The Rivieras song

  • @xuantxu The Rivieras "covered" this song in 1964. Joe Jones ("You Talk Too Much") recorded it 4 years earlier in 1960.

  • MLB 2010 ALL STAR GAME

  • the original one iss the the besst thouqhh!

  • love the dictators

  • Def better than the Ramones' version. Strictly for stylistic reasons.

  • i do like the ramones version a lot better. still, both very good

  • yeah!

    fuckin'gooood!

  • Check out this band The Natives out of San Diego

This is how we do in the California Sun.

  • Great cover.!! They did it right..I mean, it's just rock music. If ya gotta ask, ya ain't gonna get it..

  • I`m just sorry KISS got famous and these guys didn`t

  • wow, people can`t take rock n roll as a bunch of guys having fun anymore? Isn`t what the dictators were doing here what rock was always supposed to be about?

It`s a sad day for music my friends

  • Good point. I miss fun rock and roll and would take over this current depressing shit.

  • Nothing gay about Handsome Dick Manitoba my friend.

  • Comment removed

  • even if he was gay it was only because he was so manly he didn`t want to bring women into the equation to wussify him

  • @BigCSBU which cunt said that my friend lol

  • @BigCSBU There sure isn't...if only because no man would touch him! lol

  • @BigCSBU haha. awesome.

  • fucking sweet!

I love this version so much

  • The demo they recorded of this song in 1973 is so much better. The first surf-punk tune, about a year before the Ramones borrowed the idea.

  • @fallspeed is that recording anywhere on youtube or the internet? This one is great. It rivals the Ramones for sheer surferpunk energy. I still go with the Rivierras myself.

  • @RossM3838 I downloaded it from a Usenet group a long time ago. I think it's from the compilation "Every Day is Saturday." It's about twice as energetic as this version.

  • it exists on spotify.. on every day is saturday compilation

  • @tacoholic2006 who the hell are you to come around and tell us that this song is "the worst version of this song i've ever heard"? You, my good (shitty) Friend (dickhead) are an asshole (asshole).

  • I'm a guy who knows good music when I hear it, and bad music when it grates on my ears. (And I must say...you certainly have command of the English language; I have rarely seen such eloquence.)

So go ahead, play your punk rock covers of good songs, if that's what you want to do. But when you crap-up good stuff like that, don't expect the rest of the world to stand up and cheer.

And if you can't stand the heat, 'my good friend', stay out of the kitchen.

  • There's a point behind this song, just like most of the Dictators' music. They're nowhere near my favorite band, but this was a group built primarily on satire. They had songs glorifying television and wrestling; when they made music like this, it's not supposed to make you sit or stand starry-eyed in awe of how amazing a cover it is.

It's supposed to make you laugh, because that's what the Dictators were about. That and laughing at people like you who take this way, way too seriously.

  • I've been a musician for about 50 years and have played many types of music (mostly rock) but I failed to see any humor (or satire) in their rendition of this song, sorry to say. In fairness to the Dictators, I'll check out some of their other songs.

As far as my taking it 'way, way too seriously', if you'll look at Mr. HelloIzEveryone's reaction to my comment, I obviously wasn't the one who's taking it so seriously. (Nor did he appear to be laughing at me.)

  • @OldieJammer YOU ARE ALSO A DILDO LICKER

  • I think the Ramones' version is better, but this album is great!

  • Dig the guitar tone, really bassy. Underrated band!

  • I think if you spread out the Ramones career and took their best songs, it'd be considered better than this album. But this album i'd personally take over most ramone albums, because it's unique among all of the punk genre.

  • Nailed ! !

  • I like the Ramones a lot more than the Dicatarors, but I have to say this version is much better than what the Ramones put out.

  • Yeah man, I have ta agree with you ( on both ).

  • Hell Yeah! Ramones are awesome, but I have ta agree with you guys. The Dictators cover is better than The Ramones cover.

  • @HondoCarrer

    Totaly agree

  • @HondoCarrer well i think thats cause they have more musical talent on there instruments so they have more to give in there songs where as the ramones(who kick ass)have to make short quick and easy songs so not as much to offer

  • This is the version they should play at Disneyland.
